Chapter 1774 Deep-seated Resentment

Fred seemed far from his usual confident demeanor, appearing significantly deflated, with dark circles under his eyes.

He waved his hand in exasperation. "Athena, don't mock me. That jerk Gideon has truly pushed me to the edge. My wife even threatened to divorce me last night."

Athena walked beside Fred. "Have you ever considered that Sally might've felt cornered under your oppressive actions, thinking she had no choice?"

Fred paused, taken aback.

"After all, wasn't everything we did back then for our brotherhood?" He mumbled.

Athena sharply retorted, "If you truly did it for brotherhood, you'd know it. Deep down, you always looked down on women like Sally and me."

Women without a notable background clinging to men like ivy.

"Athena..."

"I suggest that even if you harbor deep resentment against Sally now if you want Gideon to back off, keep it to yourself. Don't let him notice, or... no one will be able to help you." "Understood!" Fred quickly replied.

Moments later, inside a private room.

Athena met Fred's wife.

Indeed, Athena had some interactions with Fred's wife. She was a moderately famous influencer on the internet, regularly sharing her luxury life on Twitter.

In a trending topic involving her and Byron, she once posted a photo that still circulates widely.

"Miss Newton, I've heard so much about you! It's great to finally meet," the woman exclaimed, dressing beautifully, smiling at Athena, although her makeup couldn't hide her fatigue. "Please, let's not stand on ceremony. Let's chat over dinner," Athena replied amiably.

As Gideon settled down, Fred's daughter, a chubby girl with curly hair waddling over, approached Gideon.

She tilted her head up, looking at Gideon. "Big guy, up!"

She spoke with a toddler's lisp, her voice full of innocence.

Gideon's fingers trembled slightly, yet he remained still.

Fred and his wife exchanged anxious glances. Just as Fred's wife was about to retrieve the little girl, Gideon lifted her.

"You've gained some weight, haven't you, sweetheart?"

"Not fat! I'm the skinniest!" The little girl immediately countered.

A rare smile formed on Gideon's face.

He then seated the little girl on his lap. Facing the table, she eagerly reached for the snacks.

"Mr. Hale, our Bubbles has been constantly talking about you at home, wondering why you haven't visited recently. She's always asking for a video call with you," Fred's wife shared with a smile. Without looking up, Gideon pinched the girl's chubby arm. "Fred, do you realize where you went wrong?"

Fred's spine stiffened instantly.

His hands, hidden beneath the table, clenched into fists.

Though Fred had always been a step below Gideon in their circle, Gideon never flaunted his superiority among friends.

But now, he was exerting dominance over him.

"I once misunderstood Sally, fearing she might harm you. Unaware of her tragic past, I treated her harshly. Ever since I learned the truth, I've been regretting it..."
