Chapter 1796 Calm Heart

Herbert had just returned to its doghouse.

After patting its sleeping pad a few times, it finally regained the comfort it liked.

Herbert lay down contentedly.

Then it saw Mia and Byron leaving.

Herbert's ears perked up, and it quickly got up and followed them.

There had been many guests at the Timberlake Manor recently.

To avoid suspicion, Byron seldom went to the front yard.

Fortunately, the Timberlake Manor was large enough.

A five-minute walk from their courtyard led to a moderately sized golf course.

There were hardly any people on the golf course.

These days, Mia and Aiden would join Byron in the morning to take a walk there, allowing Byron to get some exercise for his injured leg.

But today was not their lucky day.

There were a few people playing on the golf course.

"Dad, would you mind?" Mia looked at Byron.

Byron shook his head and replied, "It's alright, let's just not go over there."

"Okay!"

Mia obediently nodded.

She then patted the dog's head and said, "Herbert, those are all unfamiliar people over there. Don't be too friendly. If they're afraid of dogs, you might scare them."

Herbert hummed a bit.

Then, it glanced at Byron.

Just as Byron looked at it, Herbert immediately looked away.

"Hmm?" Byron took two steps towards Herbert and said, "Herbert, have you done something bad? Why are you suddenly looking guilty?"

"Yeah." Mia also felt that Herbert was acting strange. Ever since Byron came back after disappearing, Herbert seemed to like him more. It spent more time with Herbert than with Mia every day. But today, Byron was working in the room while it was outside alone.

"Herbert, did you steal Ottilie's sausages again?" Mia pulled up Herbert's drooping ears and asked softly.

Herbert became anxious.

And it started to whine.

"I guess so," Byron helplessly said, "Herbert, those sausages are too salty for you. You shouldn't eat them."

Herbert whimpered a couple of times and hung its head down, looking very aggrieved.

"Okay, okay, let's forget about it this time. Let's stop criticizing Herbert!" Mia rarely saw Herbert looking so pitiful. Since it was rescued from the brink of death, Herbert had become fearless and arrogant at home.

Herbert was a dog that could bring down Jaxson!

This was the first time it looked so miserable.

After listening to Mia, Herbert still hung its head.

Mia thought it would be better to let it calm down.

After all, being caught stealing and exposed really hurt its self-esteem.

So she didn't mention it anymore and continued chatting with Byron.

Byron listened attentively to his daughter's words. In the corner of his eye, he suddenly noticed a man who almost collided with a bicycle, standing with a group of people playing golf. They probably sensed Byron's gaze.

And they waved at him.

Byron politely nodded to them.

Then he retracted his gaze.

"Dad, what were you looking at?" Mia followed Byron's line of sight.

"It's nothing." Byron shook his head gently.

The next moment, he suddenly heard a boy exclaim, "Watch out!"

Byron immediately looked over.

He saw a ball flying towards them.

Almost instinctively, he forcefully pushed Mia aside.

Unfortunately, Byron and Mia were walking on a slope.

Mia was afraid that Byron's legs were not convenient, so she walked on the outer side of the slope.

When Byron pushed her, Mia tumbled down the slope.

Underneath the slope, there was an irregularly shaped large stone with bold red letters that read, "Calm Heart."

If Mia continued rolling, without a doubt, she would collide with that stone.

In this critical moment, Herbert rushed forward and used its body to block Mia.

Mia stopped in the middle of the slope.

She sat up dazedly, not knowing where she had bumped her forehead, which was now bleeding.

"Mia!"
