Chapter 2024 Are You Going to Kill Athena?

Athena would later recount this moment with bitter regret, realizing her own recklessness.

She had known something was off with Byron, but before seeking out Ennis, she failed to instruct Dorian to keep a watchful eye on him and ensure he didn't wander off.

As she hurried through the dimly lit paths of an aging park, Athena found herself darting in and out of the light, her senses on high alert.

Though time had passed, the park remained much the same. The sprawling banyan tree still cast its long shadow over the peaceful lake.

The security guard pointed the flashlight at the lake anxiously and shouted, "He's drowning! He's going down!"

Uncertain if it was a coincidence or fate, the exact location where Byron had fallen into the water was the same as last time.

Without hesitation, Athena jumped into the dark lake, just as she had done before.

"Athena!"

Before falling into the water, she vaguely heard Logan's exclamation, but she couldn't care about anything else.

Her sole focus was ensuring that Byron would not die there.

Using the light from her flashlight, Athena witnessed Byron sinking slowly to the bottom of the lake and an overwhelming fishy smell filled her throat. She swam towards him quickly and frantically, disregarding everything else.

The memory flashed before Athena's eyes.

Afterward, she rushed over to Byron, took hold of his hand, and swam with him towards the land.

In the interim, she heard multiple splashes in succession.

Athena's body had been weakened by childbirth and illness, so she was already a bit tired by the time she was almost close to the land.

Upon hearing the sound of the splashing water, Athena knew it must have been Dorian and Logan who had arrived.

She was just about to exhale in relief when Byron, who had his eyes shut tight, suddenly stirred. In an instant, before Athena could react, his arm gripped her arm. They were on the verge of surfacing from the water, but because of this sudden movement, they sank instead.

Athena fought back on reflex, but the grip around her neck tightened with each passing moment.

Turning around, she saw the person who looked like Byron, but with a completely unfamiliar and ferocious expression, full of murderous intent and resentment. This was not Byron.

Logan, Dorian and Mike plunged into the water and saw this scene.

Logan and Mike didn't even care that it was underwater.

"Athena!"

"Ms. Chelsea!"

Dorian was much calmer than the other two of them, and he rushed over like a bullet whizzing through the water. Following closely behind him was Mike, while Logan lagged behind due to his weaker swimming ability.

Once Dorian reached the two, he wasted no time and swiftly kicked Byron in the waist.

He then pulled Byron's arm, causing the one holding onto Athena to dislocate instantly.

Mike immediately sprang into action and grabbed onto the almost unconscious Athena, quickly moving her to safety. Logan saw that Athena had been saved.

With tears streaming down his face, he followed closely behind Mike and helped deliver Athena safely onto the land. Upon arrival, Mike promptly conducted cardiopulmonary resuscitation on Athena.

Thankfully, they made it to the water before it was too late.

Athena didn't ingest an excessive amount of water and eventually expelled some of it, regaining consciousness.

"Athena, are you okay?" Logan cried as if he was about to lose his breath.

He scrutinized the bruises on Athena's neck once more before turning around with anger.
