Chapter 2026 Broken Defense

It hit him like a bolt from the blue.

At that moment, Dorian swiftly moved in and knocked Byron unconscious with a swift chop.

"Mrs. Crawford, you should head to the hospital as soon as possible," Dorian didn't waste a second, helping Byron to his feet.

Athena was fragile now, like a dry leaf ready to be blown away.

She was shaky and walked out.

Mike saw her trembling and picked up the coat he had just thrown on the floor, draping it around Athena.

Athena asked, "How did you get here?"

Mike replied, "We should go to the hospital first, and I'll explain everything to you later."

Mike looked at Athena with an expression of deep concern.

Mike believed someone as kind-hearted, optimistic, and resilient as Athena, who dedicated her entire year to charity work, should have smooth sailing in life, protected by the grace of the gods.

Yet, she had been through so many inexplicable and tragic events in the past two years, and now she faced this unfortunate situation.

Mike had a moment of regret.

He never should have allowed Chelsea to know about this. He was the guardian of the Stella family's peace and well-being, a man of sacrifice, and ensuring Chelsea's happiness was his mission and duty. After discovering Byron's peculiar illness, he should have acted quietly and created a fake accident to eliminate Byron.

That way, Chelsea would have suffered only briefly. Now, her suffering had no end in sight.

Or perhaps he should have let Dorian take Chelsea ashore just now, leaving himself in the water to let Byron drown before bringing him to the shore.

That might have been better than the current situation.

As Mike arrived, he had already called for an ambulance from Stella Group's hospital.

After Byron was placed in the ambulance, he was administered a sedative.

Athena sat beside him, the bruise on her neck startlingly evident.

It was clear how much force Byron had used in such a short time. Dorian, who had witnessed the attack, shuddered, thankful that Athena's neck hadn't been crushed. Dorian was puzzled as well.

This couple appeared to have a good relationship. Ever since Byron was rescued, he had been loving and caring, seemingly a perfect example of a devoted husband. So why would he suddenly turn violent and try to harm Athena?

Moreover, at that moment, he looked like a different person, fierce and menacing.

At the hospital, Byron was subjected to various tests.

He had numerous minor cuts and scrapes, all relatively minor.

Aside from the potential lung infection due to the near-drowning, there was a need for continued observation.

The most significant injuries resulted from Dorian's kick and the dislocated arm.

Athena and the medical staff had a long night ahead of them.

Byron was admitted to a hospital room, and the sedative gradually took effect, causing him to fall into a deep sleep.

Athena sat in the hallway outside the room, her face drained of color, her gaze fixed vacantly on the floor.

Footsteps approached from the end of the hallway, and Athena instinctively glanced in that direction.

Momentarily, she thought she saw Evie, Logan, and Aron approaching.

Evie's eyes were bloodshot, indicating she had been crying to the hospital.

Athena's eyes welled up, too.

Evie reached Athena, crouching down and gently examining the bruise on her neck. Tears welled up in her eyes again.

She extended her hand to touch it, hesitating not to cause any pain to Athena. She asked, "Does it hurt?"

Athena replied, her voice hoarse as if her vocal cords had been damaged. "It doesn't hurt."

Evie broke down instantly, hugging Athena and crying.
