Chapter 522 Grace Drowned

Athena nodded.

Then she voiced her displeasure. "Why are you treating me like a criminal?"

Byron stayed silent. He pressed the call bell again to summon the medical staff. They brought painkillers.

After Athena took them, the pain started to ease off not long after.

"I'm sorry. This time, it's my fault you're involved," Athena said to Byron earnestly. "Rose has investigated the matter. They were after me this time."

"Nonsense," retorted Byron. He held her hand tightly, eyes closed, exhaustion taking over again. "You're my wife. It's my job to protect you."

"I'm not," Athena murmured in disagreement.

"Sooner or later," Byron whispered back.

Athena didn't know what to say.

She moved closer to Byron. "Sleep if you're tired."

"Okay," Byron responded. Suddenly his eyes opened. "What about your daughter? Is she unhappy since you haven't gone home?"

"No." Athena shook her head.

Byron didn't know that the girl he referred to as Athena's daughter was actually his biological child.

Yet he thought of the child's happiness right after waking up... Perhaps he truly meant what he said.

Even if he thought that the child wasn't biologically his.

He still treated her as his own.

"That's good," he mumbled, succumbing to sleep. "In a few days... I'll buy her a present..." "Okay," she said.

Athena's voice was extremely gentle.

She watched as Byron's breathing steadied.

She then carefully kissed the tip of his nose.

Not long after, Byron fell asleep.

Evie, who knew Byron had woken up, immediately rushed over.

Not wanting to disturb Byron, Athena went to the lounge with Evie.

"He didn't lose his memory? He's not an idiot?" Evie asked seriously.

Athena shook her head, smiling, "He's fine. Just before he fell asleep, he worried about my daughter's happiness. He said he'd buy her a gift in a few days." Evie was stunned. Then she smiled.

"I admit my stance isn't strong, but... Byron doesn't seem that annoying anymore!"

"You should watch your attitude. If you're used to giving him the cold shoulder and accidentally cursing at him, won't you be embarrassed?" Athena advised. Evie pinched her lips.

Then as if remembering something.

She slapped her hand.

"Right, Freya's mom... She fell into a lake last night and drowned. Someone jogging in the morning found her!"

Athena knew very little about Freya.

Because she didn't want to know.

At the mention of Freya's mom, she had to take a moment to process.

"How did you know it's Freya's mom?" she asked.

"It was in the news. I saw some pictures. Freya went to the police station to identify the body," Evie whispered.

"I see..." Athena wasn't very interested.

More than this, she was more curious about why Freya and Lola suddenly stopped their actions. They'd been strangely quiet these past few days. Evie glanced at Athena.

Seeing Athena's lack of interest, Evie swallowed the story of the argument she'd witnessed at the hospital between Freya's family.

It wasn't that Evie didn't want to share.

Athena just had too much on her plate lately.

Anyway, Evie had saved the surveillance footage from that day.

If Freya stayed out of trouble and didn't bother Athena and Byron, Evie would let things slide.

But if Freya caused more problems, Evie wouldn't hold back.

As Aron put it,

This was a case of showing kindness before wielding the stick!
