I still couldn’t believe that the moon goddess paired me with a human as my second chance mate. Not a vampire, a dragon, or a fairy, but a human. I have to say she’s beautiful though. She has that sun-kissed tan, long black wavy hair, full pouty lips, perfect curves, cute dimples on both her cheeks when she smiles, and beautiful chocolate brown eyes. I watched as Sara gave her a hair tie to put her hair up in a messy bun. Earlier, Ashley scolded and growled at my son, but before I could say anything, Yashira was signing angrily. I wanted to laugh when she asked Ashley if she thought she was a dog, but I held back. I wanted to change the subject and asked about her fighting. When she said she can hold her own Kathy had to put in her two sentences in and brought up a friendly hand to hand combat which brings us to where we are no.

I watch as Ashley and Yashira circle each other. I watch Yashira’s foot work and was impressed when she attacked Ashley first with a jumping punch making Ashley stagger back and growl lowly. Yashira threw a punch, but Ashley blocked it making Yashira throw another which Ashley also blocked and punched Yasira right in the face making her stumble. I see Yashira now has a busted l*p which made my wolf growl in anger. Yashira wipes her l*p with her thumb and smirks at Ashley which makes her even more angry.

“Alpha you can’t let this continue. You know that Ashley has a short fuse. She can hurt Yashira” Sara says. I look back and see Yashira upper cut Ashley.

“She seems to be doing just fine to me” I say turning back to Sara and Jake “which brings me to what the human said-”

“Yashira” Jake says.

“Yeah, whatever. Anyways, why didn’t you both tell me what happened that evening?” I asked.

“Because to be honest with you, we knew you weren’t going to believe us. We saw how you looked at Yashira when she was telling you. you don’t believe her either. You prefer to believe Ashley over your Beta female, your Beta, and best friend. Yes, Yashira slapped her, but it was well deserved. We were coming out of patrol when we saw Yashira lunging towards Tristan. She threw her body in harm’s way for a boy she barely even knew” Jake says shaking his head. I look back to the fight to see it was now crowded with people and I couldn’t see what was going on. I hear pack members gasp and someone growl.

“Oh no” Sara says.

“Yaya” I hear my son’s voice.

(Yashira)

It was supposed to be a friendly hand-to-hand combat, but from the way she was swinging at me I knew it wasn’t. I noticed she tried to go for my throat a few times. I noticed her feet dig into the soft dirt before she lunged at me. Instantly, my hands went out and I dropped back using my legs to kick her over me. She hit the tree behind me hard. I looked around to see there were more people than before. I looked back at Ashley, whose body was shaking from pure anger. I heard bones cracking and before my eyes Ashley turned into a dark brown wolf.

‘What the f**k?’ I thought to myself as I heard a few people gasp and Ashley’s eyes went to the side of me, and I saw an evil gleam in her eyes. That’s when I heard it.

“Yaya” it was Tristan. I saw everything is slow motion. I saw the muscles move in the wolf and my body reacted before my mind did. Just as I covered Tristan’s body with mine. I felt the electricity I felt earlier again swirl inside my body stronger than earlier. I tightened my grip on Tristan as a scream left my lips. At the same time, I felt the electricity swirling inside me leave my body. I was waiting for more, but nothing happened. I could feel warm liquid going down my back.

“Yashira” I heard Sara call before I felt hands on me. I could see the fear in Sara and Rhonda’s eyes. Black dots were starting to appear in my vision. I saw Gabriel kneel in front of me and touch my shoulder, making me wince in pain.

“Sorry… You saved my son… again. Thank you”. I can see that he meant it. I look down at Tristan before my eyes roll to the back of my head and everything goes black.

(Gabriel)

I push through the people. I see Ashley’s wolf lunging at Yashira, who is kneeling and has her back to her. I shifted into my grey and black wolf, running into Ashley, but suddenly there was a scream and Ashley and I were thrown a few yards away.

‘What the…’ all thoughts about what just happened disappeared when the smell of b***d reached my nose. Yashira’s b***d. My wolf was going insane in my head. He wanted to kill Ashley, but I pushed him back. I knew I was too late. My mate was hurt, and it was my fault.

“Yashira”, Sara yells as Rhonda and her run towards Yashira. I shift back to my human form and Jake hands me some shorts. I ran towards my mate. She’s bleeding but no one dares to touch her. As I get closer, I saw why she was kneeling. Again, she was protecting my son, but this time it was from Ashley, one of my pack members. I knelt, touching her shoulder, which made her wince.

“Sorry… You saved my son… again. Thank you”, she looks at my son and her eyes begin to roll back. I pick her up and took her to the pack clinic.

“Alpha” Maggie bows her head in respect.

“She needs help” I said.

“Bring her in here”. I place her on the bed and Maggie gets to work. I stayed in the room and watched everything Maggie does. She cleans the wound and I see she had four gashes going from the top of her right shoulder down the middle of her back as Maggie stitches it up.

“I’ll be right back, Alpha. I need to get some b***d. She lost quite an amount”, Maggie says.

“Use mine” I said, making Maggie look at me with wide eyes.

“She saved my son. It is the least I can do” I said. She nods and grabs what she needs and transfers some of my b***d to Yashira. When Maggie finishes, she takes out the needles.

“She will heal faster now that she has your b***d in her system. Maybe in a couple of days it will be healed but it will leave a few scars”, Maggie says, and leaves. This is all my fault. I shouldn’t have let this “friendly hand to hand combat” happen. I should’ve known Ashley was planning something. I just don’t understand how she could expose us like that.

‘Jake, put Ashley in the dungeons’ I mind linked him.

‘She’s gone Alpha. She ran when you took Yashira to the clinic’ Jake links back. I growl in anger, which made Yashira flinch even in her sleep.

‘Send some warriors to replace her and bring her back’ I said, and cut off the link. I sat on the chair next to her bed and waited. We had no idea how long she was going to be asleep, but I needed to make sure she was going to be okay. I closed my eyes, taking a deep breath and soon I fell asleep sitting next to her.

I hear a g***n making my eyes snap open. I looked at the bed to see Yashira opening her eyes. She blinks a few times and looks around. She goes to sit up but winces and reaches to touch the wound on her shoulder that goes down to her back.

“You shouldn’t touch it” I said, getting up from the seat. She looks at me cautiously, but I don’t see fear.

‘Is Tristan, okay?’ she asks, signing. She’s here in the clinic and the first thing she asks about is if my son is okay.

“He’s fine. Yashira-”

‘You are all werewolves’ she stated, signing it, and I nodded.

“Yes, we are” I sighed. There was no denying it, since Ashely had exposed us.

‘Are you the leader?’ she asks, and I nod again.

“Yes, I’m the Alpha” I said.

‘What’s your wolf’s name?’ she asks.

“Shadown” I replied, getting a cute smile in return.

“You don’t seem afraid” I told her. She seemed to be thinking about something and for a second I was waiting for her to run out of here, but she didn’t.

‘No, but from what I’ve read, a pack should be tight and are willing to protect each other, especially the children. Not attack them’ she signs.

“It is. Why do you say that?” I asked.

‘Ashely didn’t attack me. She attacked your son. I just shield him’ she signs.

“Maybe it was a misunderstanding. She’s my chosen mate and my soon to be Luna. She loves my son”. I tell her a little bit angry.

‘That woman doesn’t love your son. Twice she’s put him in harm’s way. You need to be more careful’ she signed angrily, standing up. She sways a little but catches herself on the chair.

“Don’t tell me what to do with my son or my pack. You are not my mate. A human like you will never be my mate”, I snarled. In my anger, I grabbed her by her throat and pinned her to the wall, making her wince silently again.

‘Let go of mate, You are hurting mate’ Shadow, my wolf snarls. My chest heaves and so does Yashira’s as she tries to push me away but to no avail. For a second, I thought I saw her eyes change color or maybe I was imagining it. Suddenly, her phone rings with a notification and I move back, letting go of her. She takes a deep breath, rubs her neck and grabs her phone and reads it the message and I see her expression change, fear evident in her eyes. That’s when the lights in the room started to flicker. I looked around before looking at her again.

‘Could she be doing that?’ I thought to myself before pushing the thought away. For her to be doing that, she has to be a witch or have a special power, but she’s human. I can smell it. She quickly types on her phone again. She moves to the door, but I grab her wrist, sparks shooting from where I touched her. She yanks her arm away.

“Where are you going?” I asked her.

‘I don’t think it is any of your business, Alpha, and you shouldn’t care. After all, I’m just a human’ she signs. She opens the door and Sara is waiting for her. They both leave. I walk out of the hospital to see Yashira leaving the pack with Sara in Jake’s car. I sigh and head up to the pack house to check on my son.
