Never Late, Never Away Chapter 2121

Larry didn't want to waste time going to and fro his office. Staying put to settle everything at one go was a much more efficient method.

But because of that, Caiden saw the opportunity to barge into Joan's life.

Delilah's recovery was going very well, to the point where she could now move around freely, much to Joan's relief. It was Larry she was worried about now.

Delilah realized how increasingly worried Joan had become and tried to comfort her. "Joan, I know Larry has been busy these few days. After all, Norton Corporation isn't a small company. There's bound to be a lot more work to do."

Of course, Joan knew this better than anyone else. What she couldn't understand was what had brought about the drastic change in Larry's attitude. In the past, no matter how busy he was, he would always call her to let her know about anything he was being troubled with.

"Why don't you buy some new clothes for Lucius? It's about time he got something new to wear," Delilah suddenly suggested.

Her suggestion was birthed from the concern she had for Joan. The woman didn't want Joan getting sick with worry. Delilah needed an excuse to get her out of the house for some much-needed fresh air. Besides, with Gabriella out of the country, it should be safer for the woman to be out and about.

Joan agreed without any hesitation and soon left for the mall.

The mall was bustling with activity, yet Joan felt so lonely amongst the crowd.

She used to have Larry or Nancy accompany her on her shopping sprees, but since they couldn't be with her now, she had to do it all by her lonesome self.

"Mommy, I want to eat that marshmallow!" a little girl exclaimed while tugging at the shirt of the woman beside her.

"Be good, darling. You've already had a sweet, haven't you? Too many sweets aren't good for you," the woman replied as she planted a kiss on the girl's forehead. "Daddy, I want to eat a marshmallow!"

"Okay, okay, I'll get it for you," the man said with a smile as he ruffled his daughter's hair.

Before the mother could protest, the father had returned with two marshmallows in hand.

"Here. This one is for my darling daughter. And the other one's for my darling wife."

The family of three was aglow with happiness as they laughed and ate the sweet treat with a huge grin on their faces. They weren't dressed to the nines, but the smiles on their faces were warm and genuine. Joan observed them silently from the side, a twinge of envy creeping over her.

Now that she thought about it, it had been quite some time since she last shopped or went out on a date with Larry. The only times they had together were spent at home with Lucius.

She was still in a daze when she suddenly heard someone call out her name.

"Caiden? What are you doing here?" she asked, clearly taken aback by his sudden appearance.

"I'm here to shop for a tie. Are you here to buy clothes too?" Caiden asked as he looked intently at her.

"Oh, yes. I'm here to get Lucius some new clothes."

Joan wondered if her loneliness had gotten the better of her. In the past, she would be reluctant to interact with Caiden. But today, even she was shocked at how friendly she was toward him. She knew she was probably looking for someone to fill the emptiness that Larry had given her. Caiden just happened to appear in her time of need.

"Did Larry not come with you? Don't the two of you usually go shopping together? What a rare chance to see you being out alone," Caiden probed.

What she didn't know was that he was well aware of Larry's situation. He had already heard about what happened to Norton Corporation. Even though he didn't know who was behind it, Caiden wanted to thank the mastermind for providing him with such a perfect opportunity to get closer to Joan.

"Well, Larry has been very busy recently, so... " Joan's voice trailed off as she lowered her head in embarrassment.

Seeing her being this helpless and lonely brought a glint to Caiden's eye.

"That's alright. I'll accompany you! I don't have anything on today anyway. Let's go! Let's get Lucius some new clothes," he said, pulling her along with him.

Before Joan could protest, he had already brought her into a fashion boutique.

He began browsing the clothes in the boutique and pointed at a pair of overalls. "Look at this, Joan. Doesn't it suit Lucius? I think it's pretty good."
