Never Late, Never Away Chapter 2122
"Lucius is a boy though, should he really be wearing overalls?" Joan reluctantly replied.
"It's because he's a boy that all the more we should let him wear overalls. Wearing them while he's young would make him look so much more energetic. It won't be the same when he gets older, though." After a long discussion, Joan finally gave in to Caiden's persuasion and bought the piece of clothing.
"Oh, what about this? This looks good too. No harm trying... " Caiden babbled on.
"What's happening? Isn't Joan's husband Larry? What's she doing here with another man?"
"Who knows? The two of them look close, though."
"Oh my, do you think Joan's cheating on Larry?"
Nearby, a few of the sales staff were gossiping amongst themselves while throwing looks at Caiden and Joan from time to time.
"Alright, just these then. He'd have more than enough to wear. Let's go," Joan said as she hauled her shopping bags to the cashier.
The clothes she picked out weren't cheap, but thinking about how good Lucius would look in them brought a smile to her face. For him, any amount was worth it. Just as she was about to hand her credit card to the cashier, Caiden pushed her aside.
"Use my card," he ordered firmly.
The cashier was taken aback by the scene unfolding in front of her and looked back and forth at the two of them, eyes fleeting. Even though Joan hadn't frequented this boutique, she used to visit the mall very often. She was such a frequent visitor that everyone in the mall knew who she was. They even knew that she was Larry's wife and a good friend of Nancy's. "Caiden, what are you doing? I can't use your card!" Joan rushed forward and tried to push him away, only to fall into his arms when he stepped back.
The sales staff in the boutique all went wide-eyed with shock.
"Oh my god, let go of me! People are going to get the wrong idea!" Joan yelped as she pounded his chest.
"Don't be a stranger, Joan. Lucius likes me too, so what's wrong with me wanting to dote on him? It's perfectly normal to buy him clothes, isn't it?" Caiden remarked as he let go of her and flashed a charming smile at the sales staff.
"Yes! That's right!" the sales staff chimed in, clearly smitten by his irresistible charm.
During the car ride home, Joan kept her head down. She was silent, but her eyes were filled with anxiety. Caiden, on the other hand, was humming away happily as he drove.
"Caiden!" Joan suddenly looked up and fixed her steely gaze on him.
When he saw the burning intensity in his eyes, he immediately pulled his car over.
"I have to pay you back for Lucius's clothes," she said, her tone serious and determined. If anyone were to turn her down at this point, there was no doubt she'd fly into a rage.
That wasn't a problem for Caiden, though. He had never been afraid of Joan blowing her top. Instead, he looked forward to it rather much.
He strongly believed that women revealed their true selves only when they were throwing a temper, which was why he was so excited for this moment.
"What are you talking about, Joan? It wasn't a lot of clothes, so I didn't spend much at all. But if you feel bad about it, you can buy me clothes in return next time." Caiden grinned cheekily. Joan pondered his suggestion silently before grudgingly deciding it was a fair trade. After that exchange, she looked out the window and was once again drawn into her own thoughts. Even if I pay him back now, he'd never accept it, so why not use the same amount to buy him clothes. That'd be a win-win situation for all of us.
Yes. Let's do that! Joan finally heaved a sigh of relief and looked much more at ease after coming to a conclusion.
Caiden had noticed the change in Joan's expression and was amused at how innocent she was.
If Larry were to replace out about this in the future, he was sure it would only result in more misunderstandings.
The thought of Larry suddenly made Caiden feel a little sorry for him. The paths he took in his business and love life were both fraught with dangers. Nothing seemed to be going his way, and nobody would want to be in his position.
