Watching him continue to act oblivious, I suddenly lost interest and started scrolling through my phone.

"You seem to have quite the way with men," Phipps suddenly remarked.

I glanced up at him, "Yeah, I might not be everyone's favorite, but I'm definitely popular."

I smirked, "Are you jealous because you saw me chatting with Mack?"

Phipps took a sip of his drink, "No."

Stubborn!

I scoffed internally, then heard him say, "Your heart belongs to Ernest."

Oh, please...

I couldn't help but laugh internally. So, this guy was so confident because he was convinced I had feelings for him.

But he had his reasons. I never denied my feelings for Ernest, and there was the custom ring he had made for me, both the men's and women's versions, along with a charm bracelet.

I jingled the bracelet, "Yeah, I love him. But who knows how long that'll last? Love that you can't touch or hold is just too ephemeral. And..."

I paused, letting out a playful chuckle, "Besides, there are so many temptations in the world. Who knows when I might fall for someone else?"

Phipps' gaze darkened slightly, "So your love is quite fickle."

"Exactly. So anyone who wants to be with me better cherish me while I still love them. Otherwise, once I fall for someone else, it'll be too late," I mused, thinking of Conrad coughing up blood in front of me. Conrad was a prime example.

Phipps didn't say anything more, and neither did I. Susie and Mack returned, her laughter and evident joy making the meal much more enjoyable, even though Mack seemed preoccupied.

With Susie there, the meal was delightful, and she even started talking about weddings, "Bro, you've been engaged for so long, when are you marrying her?"

"Soon," Phipps replied naturally.

"When is soon? I can't wait," Susie smiled at me, "You're eager too, right?"

The little rascal was teasing me, but I nodded, "No rush. If I get and your brother still isn't

just marry someone els

"Bro, did you hear that? She's laid it all out," Susie prompted Phipps.

"I heard. She won't get the chance," Phipps said, looking at me, but I stood up, excusing myself to go to the restroom.

Actually, I went to the balcony. Facing Phipps' dual nature was amusing at first, but now it suddenly felt irritating.

As I was trying to calm myself, Phipps actually followed, "Got something on your mind?"

"Isn't there always?" I said, looking at the fountain outside, with its goldfish swimming about, "See those fish? Bet they've got worries too."

"Their biggest worry is probably how to escape that pond," Mack joked, making me chuckle.

"Who knows? Whether it's human or fish, we can't see what's inside," I mused.

Mack didn't respond, and we stayed silent until he finally spoke, "I've made up my mind."

He sighed, "I'll do as you said. After dinner tonight, I'll leave Susie."

His quick decision surprised me. I looked at him, "Are you sure? Don't be hasty."

"I'm not being hasty. Every time I'm with her, wonder if it's her I want to be close to, or because of the heart inside her?" Mack looked down.

"I'm in pain too... I..." Mack was cut off by a sudden loud thud behind us.

We both turned to see Susie standing there, her face ghostly pale.
