No More Waiting, She Chooses Love -
Chapter 716
Susie's phone lay forgotten at her feet. Her deep, dark eyes trembled violently, revealing her distress. There was no need to ask; she'd overheard everything. "Susie," I called softly, stepping closer to her. However, her gaze was fixed on Mack. "What did you mean when you mentioned the heart inside me?" she demanded. Mack was at a loss for words, leaving me to intervene, "Susie..."
"Don't talk to me," she snapped, for the first time ever. Right now, she only wanted answers from Mack, even though she seemed confused. But it wasn't hard to guess the truth if you thought about it. Mack stepped forward, looking at me. "Sis, why don't you go inside? I'll explain everything to her."
It seemed best for me not to interfere at this moment, but how could I leave without worrying? I stopped just beyond the patio, leaning against the wall to eavesdrop on Susie and Mack's conversation.
"Whose heart do I have? Your ex-girlfriend's?" Susie's question confirmed my suspicions. Despite being inexperienced in love, having never fancied a boy or dated before Mack, she'd read enough romance novels to have a basic understanding. "Susie, can you please calm down?" Mack pleaded, knowing her heart couldn't withstand much stress.
"Just answer me," Susie insisted, clearly agitated.
I could understand her feelings; I would feel the same way. I looked down at my toes, listening anxiously and uneasily to their conversation. Even though I had asked Yates and knew Susie's new heart was strong, it didn't mean she could handle this kind of shock. Mack fell silent, seemingly unable to utter such cruel words.
"So, you being with me was all about this heart? No wonder you showed up right after my heart transplant," Susie accused, her hands pounding her chest.
Mack rushed to her, "Susie, please don't do this..."
But the more he fretted over her heart, the more hurt Susie felt. Trapped by his hands, she could only glare at him furiously. Mack, unable to meet her gaze, hung his head, "I'm sorry, Susie... I..."
He stumbled over his words, trying to express his feelings for her, but his own confusion silenced him.
Susie caught on, "You've never liked me, have you? That's why you never reciprocated my feelings. All that talk about age differences and not knowing each other well were just excuses because you don't love me."
"That's not true," Mack protested, "I do like you. I like your bright and optimistic nature, your sunshine, your innocence, your love for beautiful things..."
He blurted it all out, surprising even himself. My eyelashes fluttered, sensing Mack's own realization of his feelings.
He did like Susie. If he didn't, he wouldn't have confessed so many things he liked about her. But the guilt deep inside him prevented him from facing his true feelings, even convincing himself that he was only with Susie because she had Judie's heart.
"So, all these things you like, you see them in the person you once loved, not me?" Susie's voice was breaking. She had adored Mack, her first.

This betrayal was enough to destroy all her beliefs.
"No, Susie, you are you... I know that..." Mack tried to calm her down and clear the misunderstanding.
Susie shook her head, struggling to free herself, "You wanted to leave, right? Fine, I agree... From now on, stay out of my sight. I don't want to see you again."
With that, Susie ran past me, catching my eavesdropping glance. Tears filled her eyes, and her look was full of reproach. She blamed me for knowing why Mack had approached her but not telling her the truth.
