Melissa's actions and words captivated me once again. How could this woman be so enchanting?

She stood before the council with such poise, fearlessly facing those around her, effortlessly turning the tide of the entire situation with just a few phrases.

I was fortunate that she had become mine,

"Enough! Is this farce not yet over?" I finally spoke up, and the chamber fell silent. I stood up, looking around at the assembly.

"Today, I am astonished by your ignorance. I never expected such fools to be surrounding me. You question the affiliation of Luna and Atrias Elliotson, yet you seem unaware that he has assembled an army and plans to invade our North to overthrow my rule and take control."

"Since you are aware, you should be more cautious! We must closely monitor any situation both inside and outside the North; a moment's negligence could lead us into the enemy's trap!"

Elder Edgar spoke urgently, trying to justify his actions that day.

"In other words, are we now only focusing on what happens within the North? What do you know about the alliance?"

"You waste significant time on these matters, draining my energy in the process. If you had completed your work as I requested, I would have been more impressed. But you haven't. While your actions aim to create problems out of thin air, none of you have noticed the crucial issue at hand. Who sent our enforcers to the West to demand value-added tax from Alpha Swan just a few days ago? And why did he threaten the other party?" Hearing her ex-husband's name, Phoebe froze for a moment. After all, it was from the area where she had once lived, and she couldn't help but feel a bit regretful.

As for the others, they remained silent in response to my question.

Melissa, on the other hand, looked a little shocked. I knew this was something I should have told her last night, but after getting so angry with those idiots, I had completely forgotten about it.

"Craig!" Basil called, startling the man into kneeling, his head bowed low, unwilling to meet our eyes. He knew he was likely in grave danger.

"Who ordered you to go to Alpha Swan's territory, to make such demands, and entrusted you with these tasks?"

Basil inquired, but Craig remained silent.

"If you continue to keep your mouth shut, I won't go easy on you. You and your family will become outcasts for treason, and I will personally ensure your demise. You know the consequences of defying Alpha." 73.1%

In response to Basil's threat, Craig lowered himself even further.

"Respected beta... I believe that document was personally delivered to me by the Pack Leader..."

Craig spoke cautiously, but before he could finish, Basil struck him hard across the face.

"I-I don't know! It was a woman... she had a very pleasant voice!"

Craig trembled all over, and upon hearing it was a woman, the others began to murmur among themselves.

"When did she ask you to do this?"

"Five nights ago. There was the Alpha's signature and seal on it, which made me think it was the Pack Leader's arrangement."

The assembly was filled with anger and disappointment, all eyes turning to me, seemingly seeking a response.

"Do you remember what the woman looked like?" Basil continued to question him.

"I think I remember a little..."

"Still not telling the truth?"

Frustrated with the back-and-forth, Basil decided to put an end to it.

"It was Winnie Harold! I saw her at a meeting with the Pack Leader."

The room erupted in disbelief; they couldn't fathom that a member of the Harold family could be a traitor in the North.

"Bring that woman here," I said, gently tapping the table to indicate that the Harold family should produce her.

However, the head of the Harold family looked very troubled. I knew that woman had already fled, which was why I had raised the issue.

She must have realized we would uncover the truth and was likely on the run now. "We need to bring that woman back and arrest her; she has much to explain."

Basil quickly indicated that he was already working on it.

"Winnie might not have done this; there could be some misunderstanding... Please, don't be hasty," the head of the Harold family insisted, desperate to defend his daughter.

"She should be arrested," I said lazily, my gaze falling on those who had just accused Melissa.
