Chapter 49: Geraint is Not So Simple

Chapter 49: Geraint is Not So Simple Melissa's POV

I never expected things to progress so quickly. Observing Geraint Agrigent's expression, I noted the lack of overt joy or disappointment-this man hides his emotions well!

I suspected he must be involved in these matters; he just wasn't showing it.

When Winnie is brought back, we must investigate her immediately. Debra and Vince's intelligence definitely doesn't support them in executing such an important plan, but perhaps Geraint is different. When Sebastian asked if they had tracked the document, Geraint remained unmoved, as if nothing had happened.

As for the elder, how could it be just a simple attack on Sebastian?

He watched my reactions while keeping an eye on everyone present.

What he didn't expect, however, was that I was definitely not the type to be easily manipulated!

"Have you all said what you needed to say?"

Seeing the others at a loss for words, I stepped down from the council's interrogation platform.

Seeing me act so recklessly, a few people started to lose their composure: "Hey! Hey! The Pack Leader hasn't declared the council adjourned, you shouldn't treat us with such disrespect."

Hearing this, I shook my head. "Does everything need to be made so clear by him? If so, then I can understand why he's been working so hard."

With that, I sat back down beside Sebastian, who intimately linked his arm with mine, although his expression was still quite grim as he regarded the others present.

"I was initially filled with hope and trust for the North, but today, through this council, I replace myself somewhat disappointed in you all. You speculate that my ex-husband supports Atrias Elliotson and that they are about to form an army to launch an attack against us. You even think that I am the one spreading this information."

Just uttering these words made me laugh out loud.

"I don't know where you heard such things, or if they are merely rumors. Yet, here you are, self-proclaimed experts, letting these words lead you to attack me and your Alpha's authority." I said this hoping they would realize how foolish their actions were!

"In the future, the council should refrain from using Miss Melissa and her identity to spread rumors. This is low and incredibly disrespectful! If we continue like this, it will only lead to disappointment from the Alpha." Basil also spoke up to defend me. 74.4%

"Or are you following Geraint's orders and doing this at his behest?"

I tried to keep my tone neutral, but it sparked an uproar. I wasn't sure if it was wise to bring this up now, but if I didn't probe him at this moment, he might conceal himself even more deeply later.

Looking at Geraint, I finally saw a look of surprise on his face, while Sebastian appeared somewhat bewildered, as I had never mentioned this matter to him before.

"If it is him, then why did Debra and Vince act this way?"

Through our mind link, Sebastian posed the question.

"He might be using those two to lower your guard; in fact, he could be the mastermind behind it all, intending for your stepmother and brother to become scapegoats." Geraint stared at me, his expression grave.

"Miss Melissa! This matter has nothing to do with me. I hope you won't be overly sensitive or use this to eliminate your rivals."

His words made me laugh out loud once again.

"But

you don't

get to decide that! We should first try to replace Winnie. I remember Phoebe is skilled at tracking; she can communicate with nature to gain support."

Upon hearing this, Geraint's expression finally lost its ease.

Sebastian immediately ordered that Winnie be located within three days.

"Until you prove that you are truly uninvolved in this matter, I will maintain a reserved attitude towards you. Perhaps I know that most of those present disagree with my perspective, but I don't care. I want you to remember, I am the future Luna; I have the duty and obligation to make the North a better place."

"Since Melissa has said this, I want to make it clear here as well: I intend to use this opportunity to announce that all Packs are independent regions with sovereignty. I will not impose taxes on their Packs. I am the Pack Leader of the North, but each region has its own Alpha. As long as no one declares war against us or harms the North, I will not initiate attacks!

I am different from my father and grandfather; I don't want to waste my life, nor do I

and want to destroy my tribe, homeland, and family. War may bring money, power, expand our territory and influence, but it also causes immense suffering."

I completely agreed with Sebastian's words, feeling fortunate that my lover was a benevolent and wise ruler.

"While I am grateful to my grandfather and father for using these matters to ensure our North has a solid foundation, it's precisely because we cared too much about these issues that the North's reputation has suffered greatly, and our family has faced enemies from all sides! Their outcomes were too tragic, inciting hatred from many.

Now that I am the Alpha of the North, I will not continue in their footsteps. I will vigorously develop trade and heavy industry, bringing peace to our North and helping everyone improve their economy. I hope you will join me on this path of peaceful development and not force me to take action against others, whether covertly or openly. I do not want you to influence my decisions and life; otherwise, I will consider you traitors."

With the conclusion of his speech, I finally breathed a sigh of relief.

Back at the castle, I eagerly changed into comfortable clothing, ready to relax and unwind when a knock at the door interrupted me. Who could be looking for me at this hour?

As I opened the door, I was met by Debra, her expression very serious, and before I could react, she raised her hand and slapped me. The room fell silent, and my expression darkened.

I had previously tolerated her actions because there had been children in the hospital

room.

"I told you not to lay a hand on me again, didn't I?"

I clenched my fists, forcing myself to stay calm.

What I didn't expect was that tears started to fall from her eyes. She was clearly a mother crying in pain.

"Why did you hurt Geraint? He clearly did nothing wrong, yet you made him lose face in front of so many people!" Debra demanded angrily.

I was taken aback; it turned out she still cared for her son.

"You think I said something wrong, don't you? But he does have suspicions against him."

"Please, you've already succeeded! You've done it, Sebastian has punished my son and me because of you. Now you're the biggest winner!"

She looked at me with eyes full of pleading. "I only have this one son left! You're afraid he might go against Sebastian, so you're deliberately slandering him..."

Debra's voice began to tremble. I knew she meant no harm; she simply didn't want to lose her son.

No matter how wrong her actions were, they stemmed from a mother's heart, so I couldn't blame her.

"I wish that the matter of the forged signatures and seals has nothing to do with him, which is why I need to replace Winnie as soon as possible. Debra, I have been a mother too; I understand how you feel right now, but I also hope you can look at this situation calmly. I will do everything I can to ensure he gets a fair outcome."
