Chapter 51: Secretly Raising an Army

Sebastian's POV

Chapter 51: Secretly Raising an Army

Hearing the name of the letter's sender, I felt a surge of anger. If I had known there were other men coveting my lover, I would never have given them the chance!

Atrias Elliotson, that lunatic who dreams of ruling the world-it's already merciful of me not to punish him outright. But for him to reach this far, daring to desire Melissa, is utterly unforgivable.

"Would you like to read this letter with me?" Melissa asked, slipping her arm through mine and pressing her face affectionately against my chest.

She waved the letter in her hand, showing no hesitation in sharing it with me.

But I didn't want her to think I was a jealous man, nor did I wish to interfere excessively in her private matters.

"I think I should look into Geraint and Winnie Harold's connection. Perhaps there are others in the Northern Pack supporting my brother without my knowledge."

It was clear many people were plotting in the shadows, and I needed to uncover these schemes.

I knew Debra and Vince didn't have the capability to orchestrate something this elaborate.

Their foolishness was evident in their plan to use Shakti to infiltrate my circle.

But as Melissa suspected, Geraint was no ordinary man. I couldn't afford to take him lightly.

If it was really Geraint who was orchestrating these things behind the scenes, then I indeed needed to feel a sense of crisis. He could use those unfounded and unsourced matters to provoke the rebellious sentiments of those people, attempting to get the people of the Northern Territories to initiate attacks on other packs.

Even if his plans seemed foolish on the surface, the aggressive factions within the Pack wouldn't let such an opportunity slip by.

"Melissa, I want you to rest assured. This will be the last time those within the Pack use your ex-husband to attack you in such a disgraceful manner. I sincerely apologize for the recent incidents they've been both crude and disrespectful. Their behavior has deeply disappointed me."

I gently stroked her hair, hoping my words would bring her some comfort.

"I also swear my eternal loyalty to you, my dearest Alpha. I won't let anyone exploit our vulnerabilities again. They aren't worth the effort or attention, are they?"

Unable to resist, I kissed her lips, my mind

convinced that his mind wasn't sound. How ung to Elliott Kauffman. I was increasingly

else could he have abandoned such an extraordinary woman, all for the sake of the so-called bloodlines and Pack alliances?

But it was his loss that granted me this opportunity, a fact I couldn't help but feel fortunate about.

When I returned from the washroom, freshly cleaned and dressed, Melissa was still absorbed in reading the letter, her expression unusually grave.

I regretted refusing her earlier offer to read it together. That mad dog had only met Melissa once, so what could he possibly have said to her for so long?

Unable to suppress my curiosity any longer, I was about to ask when a sudden knock came at the door.

Melissa lifted her head, glancing at me. At this hour, it was unlikely anyone would be visiting, so I simply shook my head.

The knocking persisted, however, making it clear something urgent was happening.

When I opened the door, it wasn't my Beta or Gamma standing there, but Phoebe, her face covered in blood, barely able to speak.

Melissa and I hurried to support her as she stumbled forward. She seemed desperate to say something, but it was evident that her throat had been savagely bitten, leaving her struggling to make even the faintest sounds. "Did you and Basil come under attack? Where is he now?"

I hadn't expected her injuries to be so severe, which only deepened my concern for Basil's safety.

Phoebe shook her head, then nodded, and pointed toward the corridor.

"Are you saying Basil is looking for me? That I need to go somewhere?"

Seeing Phoebe's resolute nod, I guessed they might have found Winnie.

Leaving her in Melissa's care, I headed straight for the Northern Pack prison, where high-profile criminals were kept.

Basil looked disheveled, his condition no better than Phoebe's.

"Did you fall into their trap?"

Though Basil wasn't as formidable in military strategy as Martell, it wasn't easy for to injure him to this extent.

"We're in trouble, Alpha. Some of the elders are secretly raising armies..."

His voice was hoarse, his expression grim, and the savage wounds on his body left no room for doubt.

"Are you serious?"

I couldn't believe something like this could happen under my rule. This kind of betrayal

"Phoebe and I had been tracking that Harold woman. Just as we were about to bring her back, we were ambushed. We fought as hard as we could, but she was rescued. Those attackers were highly trained, as if under the command of a leader. Even the ones who weren't as skilled as me were difficult to handle."

As I examined Basil's wounds, my gaze darkened. It seemed my leniency had emboldened these people, giving them the illusion they could exploit the situation.

"I'll have Martell assist you in gathering evidence against those elders who are raising private armies. As for the mastermind, I'll assign Geraint to investigate."

If these events were truly connected to my so-called brother, I eagerly awaited the kind of response he would deliver.

"Isn't this too dangerous? If Geraint really is the mastermind, aren't we essentially tipping him off? Wouldn't that make all our efforts pointless and give him the chance to clean up his mess?"

Basil's concern was evident-after all, these people wouldn't hesitate to stab me in the back at the first opportunity.

Unfortunately for them, their assumptions were completely misguided.

The forces they had secretly raised weren't even enough to warrant my

attention.

However, if Geraint truly was behind this and managed to cover his tracks in advance, it would be much harder to convict him in the future.

Without solid evidence, it would be seen as slander. If this escalated, wouldn't his family face ruin and disgrace?

"Don't worry. No one will associate this matter with you. The Luna of another Pack discovered the issue, which has already embarrassed the Northern Pack. Moreover, the Beta is still unconscious after the ambush and will need time to recover. Using this situation to our advantage, your family might even gain some recognition and rewards." I knew exactly what Basil was worried about, so I had to ensure his complete peace of mind.

Phoebe's status was sensitive-her strength was limited, yet she had ties to other Packs. Having her take credit as the one who uncovered this situation was the perfect cover.

I had no intention of interfering with those people's actions. In fact, I suspected that anyone who publicly involved themselves in this matter would end up suffering significant losses.

Once the mastermind was exposed and brought down, many would scatter. I guessed there were those who hoped I would fall as an expendable pawn, allowing someone to step forward with substantial wealth to win hearts and minds when the great families crumbled.

But deep down, I still wished the ones behind this weren't my brother and stepmother. If they dared to challenge my authority again, the only family I would have left would be Melissa and Mignon.
