Not His Type Of Mate -
Chapter 109
Alpha Leo's POV
"Are you sure about this?" Maddison asked, and I nodded, taking a deep breath.
"But if something goes wrong, you will be killed," Ava spoke worriedly, while I sighed and didn't say a word.
She was right. The plan was a risky one which could cost me my life if anything went wrong. But then I thought of Nora and what she might be going through and what she would go through if we didn't save her. Everyone was silent as they pondered my plan. It was a risky one to take, but we knew it was the only option left.
"We should hurry up," I said, and Maddison held my gaze briefly before nodding his head. I turned to Ava, who seemed lost in thought. It was obvious she was scared, but not for herself, but for me.
"Ava, we are waiting for you," I said and saw her remain silent for a moment before finally holding my gaze. For the first time, she spoke through telepathy. "Are you sure about this, Alpha?" she asked through the mind link, and I didn't respond. "Do you love her this much that you are willing to lay down your life for her?" she asked, worriedly. "Have you thought of your people? Your pack and the entire werewolf clan?" she asked, and I didn't give a response.
I heard her sigh and turned to the other men. "Interlock your hands together," she said, and they all did, while I was the last person to hold her hand and that of Maxwell.
"We will all stick to the plan, and if anything goes wrong with me, make sure you don't back out," I instructed, seeing the worried faces of everyone. Many paragraphs are missing. I felt a cold chill, and when I opened my eyes, I realized we were in the bush, but the large building of the rogue camp could be seen a few miles away.
"Let's go with the plan," I said, and Ava nodded. "Maddison, you know what to do," I said, and Madison nodded. "Once you get the signal, all you have to do is come in," I said, and he nodded, fully understanding.
"Let's go, Ava," I told her, and she nodded, holding my arm and locking her gaze with mine for a moment before teleporting us.
We arrived inside the camp, right at the gate. The four guards saw us and came to attack, but in a swift motion, I killed them with the knife in my hand since I couldn't use my abilities to bring attention.
"Go bring the others," I told Ava, who nodded and left.
As she went to bring the others, I hid around the walls and silently killed any rogue I met on my way, making sure not to make a single sound.
"Where are you?" I heard Maddison's voice in my head.
"I'm heading towards the main building," I said, and Madison responded. "We are heading to the quarters. Don't you think you'll need help?" he asked, but I shook my head. "No, I'm fine. Just make sure you keep Ava close to you. Nothing should happen to her," I told Maddison and ended the mind link.
I kept tiptoeing until I caught the unmistakable scent of Nora. With a long sniff, I located her and made my way towards her.
"I have found Nora's scent. I'm in block six," I informed Maddison. "We are behind you," he announced, and I turned to see him and the men behind me.
"Take me in." I told Ava, who held my arm and teleported me into the room. When we entered, I saw Nora lying on the floor while Lorenzo stood before her. Before he could go for Nora, I pushed him and he fell to the ground. I saw him growling in pain and quickly grabbed him so he wouldn't teleport away.
"Ava, take Nora and the others out of this place," I said, but my words did not leave my lips when I heard loud alarms blowing, announcing our presence. "Ava, do it," I told Ava, who nodded and teleported with Nora.
With a heavy sigh, I stared at Lorenzo, who had a blank look on his face. "How dare you!" I yelled and punched him in the face. But just then, the door opened and hundreds of rogues entered the room and surrounded me.
I stared at Lorenzo, who had a victorious grin on his face. It was obvious he thought he had gotten me, but he was wrong. "Madison, where are you guys?" I asked through the mind link.
"We are out of the camp," he responded.
"Nora?" I asked.
"She is here with us," he responded, and I sighed in relief. "Tell Ava to take you all far away," I said and ended the mind link before he could respond.
"Let go of him, Alpha Leo," one of the commanders yelled, pointing an arrow at me. With a chuckle, I stared at the commander. "It's good that you know me and what I can do," I said and began unleashing fire from my hand, burning Lorenzo in the process. But I made sure not to let go of him so that if he wanted to teleport, he would do so with me.
"No!" I heard Lorenzo yell as the fire burnt him, but then I felt arrows piercing me from behind. The men were throwing arrows at me. Pain surged through my body as the arrows struck me, but I refused to let go of Lorenzo. I gritted my teeth, using every ounce of strength to keep my grip on him.
More arrows struck me, and just as I was about to lose control, my wolf unleashed an uncontrollable flame of fire, burning everyone in the room, including Lorenzo. More men came in, and I unleashed my flames on them, while others ran away when they saw the uncontrollable fire.
In the midst of the chaos, I heard a familiar voice in my head. It was Ava, worried and pleading. "Alpha Leo, I'm coming to get you." I didn't respond to her; instead, I stared at the burnt men on the floor and then at Lorenzo, whom I couldn't recognize. But then it pained me that I had to give him such an easy death. While Exclaiming in pain, I fell to the ground, quenched the flames and began pulling out the arrows that had pierced my body. Just as I was taking them off, I saw Ava appear before me, her eyes filled with worry and fear.
"Alpha Leo, are you okay?" she asked and before I could respond she teleported me away, and I found myself in a strange room with a woman lying on the bed. The woman stared at us with dumbfounded eyes as she got out of the bed. "Mother, please help," Ava said. Before I could ask or understand what was going on, I fell unconscious.
I could hear faint voices, and no matter how hard I tried to listen, the voices seemed faint. Slowly, I struggled and opened my eyes. The first thing I saw was a white ceiling above me.
"He is awake." I heard a familiar voice beside me and turned to see Ava standing there, wearing a big smile on her face.
"How are you feeling, Alpha?" she asked while I stared at her with a confused expression before slowly sitting on the bed.
I looked down at my stomach, my chest, and my hands, and noticed that the arrows were gone. But what surprised me the most was that there was no mark on my body, no trace of the arrow that had pierced me.
"How did this happen? Who did this?" I asked, and Ava smiled before responding, "It was my mother. She's an incredible healer." Ava's response left me marveling at what she had done. But then my thoughts turned to someone else. "What about Nora?" I asked worriedly.
"She is fine," Ava responded, but I wanted to be sure, so I made a mind link to Maddison and instantly received a signal.
"You are awake," he said, and I hummed.
"Nora, how is she?" I asked with concern and worry.
"She is fine, but she is still unconscious, which isn't necessarily a bad thing," he responded, and I took a deep breath before asking, "Was she harmed...?"
"I don't think so, and the nurse is currently checking on her," he replied.
"In your apartment?" I asked.
"Yes," he responded.
"I'll be there," I said and ended the mind link.
I stared at Ava, who had a relieved smile on her face. "Thank you, Ava. You risked your life just to save me," I spoke gratefully, and she bowed before speaking, "You are my Alpha, and it's a privilege to serve you." Her words caused me to smile weakly. "Can you take me to Maddison's apartment?" I requested, and she nodded.
Slowly, I got out of bed, and Ava handed me a hoodie to put on since my shirt was destroyed. I thanked her and put it on before she held my wrist, and in the blink of an eye, we found ourselves in Maddison's room.
As I entered the room, Maddison looked up from his seat beside Nora's bed. His face showed a mix of relief and concern. I approached him, trying to ignore the lingering pain in my body. I noticed the nurse still checking on Nora with a blank expression, making it difficult for me to discern her mood and see if anything was wrong.
Finally, the nurse finished examining her and turned to Lord Maddison.
"How is she?" he asked, his voice filled with worry.
The nurse smiled. "The result is out. Physically, she's fine. There's no sign of any harm. But she's still unconscious, possibly due to being frightened. However, she will wake up soon, but we can't give her the injections we ought to give her because the results show she is a week and few days pregnant, "she said, causing my heart to skip a beat for a moment.
"What did you say?" Maddison asked, making sure he heard her correctly.
"She is pregnant, my lord. The test shows She's about two weeks along"
The words hit me like a ton of bricks. Nora was pregnant. My mind raced as I tried to process the information. A mix of emotions swirled within me-confusion, fear, and a deep sense of uneasiness. I couldn't believe what I had just heard. "Pregnant?" I blurted out, and the nurse nodded.
I stared at unconscious Nora and then at Maddison, who held my gaze. My heart was beating rapidly in my chest, and it felt like I was about to break down. So, I quickly ran out of the room, hurriedly descended the stairs, and met Maxwell in the sitting room. "Alpha, is everything okay?" he asked, but I couldn't give him a response. Instead, the words of the nurse rang in my head. I noticed Madison and Ava coming down the stairs.
"Leo, we need to talk," Madison spoke, but I zoned out. It was over. It's officially over. I've lost Nora.
"Leo..."
"Don't say a word, Madison. Allow me to think," I said, slowly collapsing on the couch because my legs were becoming weak and unable to carry my body. Slowly, I closed my eyes and felt my heartache like thousands of needles were piercing it. It felt like my heart was being torn apart, and I was going to die.
"Alpha Leo, are you okay?" Ava asked, but I didn't give a response. Instead, I drew a long breath, holding back the tears that threatened to fall. I'm Alpha Leo, and I shouldn't be seen crying.
With a deep breath, I opened my eyes and held Madison's gaze, who had a confused look on his face. "The baby is yours, right?" I asked for confirmation, even though I knew the answer. Maddison didn't respond, but his silence gave me the answer I needed. I could hear my wolf whimpering in pain at the realization of what was happening. It was over, and there was nothing I could do about it. Perhaps it was destiny, and I had to man up and act brave.
I took a deep breath, pushing the emotions down, and met Madison's gaze. "Congratulations, you've won," I said, my voice strained but composed. "I hope you both replace happiness in this unexpected turn of events."
Madison looked taken aback, sensing the anguish within me. He opened his mouth to say something, but I held up a hand to stop him. "Don't say anything. Let me do the talking," I demanded, sucking in a deep breath to gather myself for what I was about to say. "You know Nora has conflicting feelings toward us, but now that she is pregnant with your child, I believe she would let go of any feelings for me," I tried speaking, but Madison cut in.
"Her pregnancy won't stop her from loving you, Leo," he responded, and I sucked in a deep breath before speaking. "Then we have to kill whatever feelings she may still have for me," I said, and Madison furrowed his brow, confused at my words.
I went silent for a moment, gathering myself and my emotions before speaking. "Nora should never know I helped in rescuing her. In fact, I have been in Singapore for the past one week, and I will be back tomorrow," I said, and Madison stared at me, confused and surprised.
"When she wakes up and asks for me, you will tell her I have been in Singapore for an important conference and couldn't leave it. So, you, Maxwell, and Ava did everything. I did nothing in rescuing her."
"What are you saying, Leo?" Madison asked, angering me even more. "Just do what I'm telling you to do, Madison. Nora is now pregnant, and this is the only way she would stay with you and end everything with me. Madison, she is pregnant, and it's not good for her to have conflicting feelings," I snapped and roughly ran my fingers through my hair to calm myself. After a moment, I spoke again.
I'll come to see her tomorrow under the pretense that I just came back from Singapore, and I will do the remaining talking. All you have to do is tell her I was busy and couldn't help, understood?" I said and turned to leave, but Maddison's words stopped me. "Why, Leo? Why are you doing this?" he asked, and I responded instantly, "Because you are my brother, and perhaps you deserve to have her."
Maddison looked conflicted, torn between his own desires and the weight of my sacrifice. "But Leo, you love her too. You shouldn't have to give up on your own happiness."
I shook my head, a bitter smile playing on my lips. "Sometimes, love means letting go. I'll always cherish the time I had with Nora, and I'll always love her. But now, her happiness is what matters the most. And if that means stepping aside and giving you both a chance, then I'll do it."
I would always love Nora, silently and from a distance. And I would replace comfort in the knowledge that I had done what was best for her, even if it meant breaking my own heart in the process.
With that, I turned to Ava, who stood silently watching us. "Can you take me home?" I asked and she nodded.
