Not His Type Of Mate -
Chapter 139
Nora's
POV
The journey back to Francisco made my mind a total mess. Memories kept flooding my brain, and I felt emotional. Maxwell noticed my sour mood, feeling guilty because he knew I wouldn't have returned to Francisco if not for him. I came for him, not my father. We arrived at Maxwell's house in Francisco, and a maid carried my luggage while I held my son in my arms. My mother rushed to me with surprise in her eyes, replaceing it hard to believe I would come with my son, and she was excited to see me. She wrapped me in a tight hug, but I wasn't as happy and only nodded my head, revealing a weak smile as I hugged her back. "Is this your son?" my mum asked, and I rolled my eyes secretly.
"Yes," I replied, breaking the hug, before turning to face Maxwell. "Where is Dad?" I asked, and my mother rushed to stand in front of me again. "He is upstairs. Will you go and check on him right away?" She asked, acting all nice and good, but it annoyed me because I knew this wasn't who she was. She was never this sweet and nice to me!
"Take me there," I said to Maxwell, who nodded and led the way, with me following closely, and we went into the room where my father was laid. I saw him looking lean, dark, and weak, and for a moment, I felt bad for him. I walked toward him and sat there. "Is it the cancer that made him become like this?" I asked Maxwell, who nodded his head, looking sad.
"He must have suffered a lot," I mumbled as I unleashed my healing ability and pressed my hand on his chest. He writhed in pain for a while, but he wasn't relieved, which surprised me. I closed my eyes and trailed my hand down to his belly, activating my healing ability again, but it was still the same. He would writhe in pain for a while and stop, not feeling any better. "What's going on?" Maxwell asked, and I shook my head. "I have no idea," I replied and tried healing him again until my mother noticed me sweating. "Can't you do it?" She asked. I was annoyed, feeling like I shouldn't reply to her, but I knew it wasn't the right moment to keep the hatred moving, so I nodded my head. "Nothing is working," I replied weakly and stood up. I bent my back, placed my head on his chest, and frowned deeply. "He's alive. So, why is nothing working?" I asked out loud in my frustration and activated my healing ability again, but it was still the same. I sighed and turned to face Maxwell, who was trying his best not to cry, and then to my mother, who was already crying.
"I..." I was about to talk, but my mother's wailing stopped me, and I looked at her. "Don't let your father die, please. I don't want to lose my husband now. Save him, please," she begged desperately, and I could see the plea in Maxwell's eyes too. Although they knew I had tried my best, they still wanted me to try more, and I was tired.
I didn't want him to die too. Not even after I traveled to Francisco to meet him just to heal him. I sucked in a deep breath and walked toward the door. "I'm coming. I will be back," I said and opened the door, but Maxwell rushed toward me and held my hand. "Is there a way to save him? Will he not die?"This book has many missing chapters and scenes if you're not reading it on [J] o b n I b. c [o] m. He asked, more like he was pleading, asking me to try my best to save our dad. I sighed and nodded. "There might be a way. Because of you, Maxwell, I will try everything in my power to save our father," I said and left the room.
"Mum!" Julius called me immediately I stepped down from the stairs, and he rushed to me, hugging my legs. "Where are you going, Mum?" He asked me, and I sighed. Stressed and exhausted, I didn't feel like talking at all, but I had to reply to my son. I swooped him up to his feet and kissed his forehead. "Mum will quickly visit a place and be back soon, okay? Be a good boy and wait for me here," I said and bent down to drop him, but he shook his head. "No, Mum. Can I go with you?" He asked, and my heart raced. I shook my head instantly and looked toward one of the maids. "Take care of my son while I'm away," I said to the maid and turned to face him. "Julius, Mum will be back soon. I will get you something on my way back too. This is a place Mum must go alone," I said to him and left the house without waiting for him to reply to me. There was no way I could take him there. It wasn't just possible, and I would never do that. It was a place I had to go alone.
Getting to the front of the apartment, I stopped a taxi and got inside. "I'm going to Maddison's Estate," I said to the driver, and he started the engine, taking me down to my destination. The drive there was fast, very fast, faster than I'd wanted because I did not want to go. Every part of me wanted me to return and hide myself back, but I had stepped out already, and there was no way I would back down without fulfilling my promise to Maxwell. Not even after he had begged me so much to save our dad.
I alighted in front of the magnificent mansion I was going to and stood in front of it, thinking about whether to enter or not. At this stage, not even my promise to Maxwell kept me strong, and I was nervous. My heart kept racing, and to make it worse, Lolita started screaming "Mate! Mate!" Causing me to drag my feet on the ground angrily. She was excited, but it was the opposite for me. Excitement was far away from me, and I hated what I was doing right now. This wasn't me. I wouldn't have done this if it wasn't Maxwell's request, and because Maxwell was so special to me, I couldn't do anything.
The gate opened, and I was let in. All the workers in the mansion who saw me were surprised, and they welcomed me with excitement. Questions were in their eyes about my departure in the past years, but I walked past them anyway and entered the mansion. "Mate! Nora, Mate!" Lolita continued to cheer, and I rolled my eyes. Her jeer only made me angrier, and I wished I could shut her up, but I kept quiet and continued walking. "Mate! Mate!" She continued screaming, causing my stomach to churn.
I heard footsteps on the stairs, and my eyes widened. Without being told, I already knew who it was, but what was shocking was the fact that he was running, and he only stopped when he saw me. His eyes were filled with delight as he stared at me. "Nora," he called, and I froze for a moment, but I was quick to compose myself. Staring at him, I gave no expression that would leak what I felt, but he cared less about that as he ran toward me and hugged me. "My Nora, it's you. It's really you!" He said, and I frowned. Why is he hugging me?
I tried pushing him away, but his grip became tighter, and it was obvious he wasn't planning to let go soon. "I missed you so much, Nora. The past 4 years were hell for me, but I couldn't look for you because you asked me not to, and I wanted to give you as much space as you wanted. But it was hell. I missed you so much, Nora," he lamented as he continued hugging me as if his life depended on me. "I'm sorry for whatever I did. I know you've been angry with me all these years, but don't you think I've suffered enough? You know how much I love you and how much I'm used to you? I've been like an empty shell all through the years because you weren't with me," he continued, but I was emotionless. I pushed him away and rolled my eyes at him. "You should know I can't be here for this," I said to him, and I saw his face fall.
"He's sad, Nora. He's heartbroken. Your Mate is heartbroken," Lolita said to me, but I scoffed and looked at him. He was quiet for a while as he seemed to be gathering his thoughts while trying to control his emotions, which I hadn't appreciated. "I'm here to ask you for a favor," I added, and saw his eyes twitch. "What happened?" He asked, and I sighed. My face made it obvious that I was going through a lot, and seeing him was one of them. "My father is sick. He is very sick, and I've tried my best, but it isn't working. I'm here to ask for your favor because I know you are more talented than I am. Can you help my father, please?" I pleaded and bite my upper lip. He was quiet for a while before he sighed and nodded. "Okay. I will, but on one condition..."
