Not His Type Of Mate -
Chapter 140
Lord Maddison's POV
I had been checking up on her all through the years, and I knew she was fine, but I never bothered to replace out anything else about her as I was worried she would get mad at me. I knew she was in London, and I knew she became a top writer. That was all I knew about her. Seeing her in my house made me think she was back for me, but my heart broke when I realized she wasn't. I thought she still loved me and had returned to be with me, but it was a lie, as the look in her eyes was far from that of a lover girl. I was sad, which was why I told her that I would help her, but only on one condition. It wasn't like I had any condition to give to her except to have her back with me. "What's the condition about?" She asked after hesitating for a while, and I sighed. "Will you come back to me? If you can do that, I will make sure to do all it takes to heal your dad," I said, but it was more like I was pleading to her, and she knew this.
She stared at me for a while and sneered. "No," she replied firmly and took a step back. "I can't return to you for anything. You can forget that I asked you for a favor," she said, and with that, she turned to leave. I watched her walk to the door with a broken heart. I didn't think she would reject me so straightforwardly, and it pained me. I wasn't able to say anything even as she was about to open the door; I was still in shock. But she turned to me herself and returned to her earlier position. "I can't be your mate again or return to your house, but what about this?" She asked and looked around to see if anyone was around. "What if we become sex mates for some time? You will treat my father, and instead of being your mate, I will be your sex mate for some time," she offered, and I was shocked.
My eyes widened, and I couldn't believe what I heard. I looked at her to see if she was truly the Nora I knew, but she was different. Even while saying such a thing, she looked as if it was the most normal thing in the world, and she felt no shame at all. I wondered what had happened to her, what made her this way, but I couldn't wrap my head around anything, and I was devastated.
"So, you mean you would rather be my sex mate than be my wife?" I asked her, and she nodded without hesitation. "Yes, for a month, that is. But after a month, I will return to where I came from, and that will be the end. The truth is, I don't want to have anything to do with you again, and I have no feelings for you again either. I don't even like seeing you," she said coldly to me, and my heart sank.
My heart clenched, and it felt like it was bleeding. She need not tell me she no longer loved me before I knew anyway because it was obvious in her eyes that she had no feelings left for me. To her, I was her past that she would never go back to anymore, and I felt hurt. I stared at her with pain-filled eyes, but she cared less about me as she waited for me to reply, but I was in a dilemma. Saying no to her request would make her leave away from me, and she might never come back, but saying yes would make her my sex mate for a month, after which she would leave and never come back to me. I was torn between right and wrong, not knowing what to pick.
"What's your say?" She asked, and I sucked in a deep breath. I looked at her and stood right. "Yes, I will take you up on that offer. I will heal your dad, and on that ground, you will become my sex mate," I said to her while promising myself that I would win her heart in that one month and make her change her decision.
She nodded and sighed. "Done deal. Will you come with me now?" She asked, and I nodded. "Yes, but I need to get my jacket first," I said to her, and turned to leave. I went upstairs where I picked up my jacket, wore it, and returned downstairs to meet her waiting for me patiently without leaving her spot. "I'm ready," I said to her, and she turned without replying to me. She led the way while I followed closely, and we went toward my car. She brought no car, and there was no way I'd enter a cab when I had so many cars already. She hesitated, glaring at my car, but I said no word, and after a little while, she entered the car and closed the door while I did the same. "Where is our destination?" I asked her, and she turned to me. Her cold eyes looked up at me as she opened her mouth, "Maxwell's apartment," she replied, and I frowned. "Maxwell's house?" I asked, and she nodded. Maxwell had not been on good terms with me since Nora left my place, so we hadn't talked since then.
I started the car, and we drove out. "Mate! Mate!" Darin kept screaming, but I composed myself, not wanting to cause another scene where she would make me realize how much she hated me.
We hit the road, but my gaze kept falling on her now and then, and I found it difficult to look away from her. She had changed a lot. She looked a lot prettier than before and a little slimmer too. Her skin looked brighter, and her face looked more defined, more mature, and her presence felt more dignified. She looked very different from the woman I knew, and I was curious. Curious to know what was on her mind all through the four years we stayed apart.
I felt the urge to touch her face, hug her, and kiss her lips. I had the urge to tell her how sorry I had been, but I refrained and sighed while I continued glancing at her at every opportunity I got. She noticed my gaze on her, and she frowned. "Will you face the road? I don't want to be involved in an accident, please." Her cold, emotionless voice rang loud in the car, and I was taken aback.
I sighed and turned to face the road. "Sorry." I mouthed, but she refused to reply to me as she turned away, and I felt sad again. Every other lady would have been shy and looked away when they noticed a guy's gaze on them, but her cold eyes only became colder, and she looked irritated.
We got to Maxwell's house, and I parked in front of the house. I alighted from the car, and she did the same. "Come with me," she said as she led the way while I followed after her, and we entered the house. Entering the house, I saw her family members who all stood on their feet, bowed, and greeted me with respect, and I responded with a nod.
"Are you here for my father?" Maxwell asked me, totally forgetting about the animosity between us, and I nodded. "Yes, Nora brought me here to help heal him," I replied, and saw his face brighten. He looked at Nora appreciatively and then turned to face me. "Shall I take you there?" he asked, but I shook my head. I looked at Nora and gave her a questioning look. "Nora can take me there. You can sit here and wait for me," I said to him, turning back to face Nora, who frowned at me for a few seconds before letting out a deep breath. "Come with me," she said, and we started climbing the steps, with me following closely. She took me to a room.
Upon entering the room, I saw her father lying weakly in bed, and I pitied him. He looked so frail, as if he could die anytime soon; he must have been in a lot of pain. I walked toward him and looked at him. Just by looking at him, I could see his energy was weak. Placing my hand on his forehead and closing my eyes, I noticed that his condition was complicated, which was why Nora couldn't heal him. I opened my eyes and looked at her. "I will have to transfer the sickness from his body to mine before I can heal it," I said to her, and I saw her eyes twitch.
She looked at her dad and then back at me, asking, "Won't that be too risky? Is there no other way?" My eyes lit up with excitement, and a small smile formed on my face as I thought she might actually care about me. But, all that ended when I heard her next words, "Because I don't want people saying I killed a lord." My heart broke into pieces, and without saying a word, I activated my healing ability and pressed my hand on her father's head.
Sweat dripped down from my face as I tried to force the sickness into my body. I groaned inwardly, and it took a while before I was finally able to transmit the sickness from his body to mine. I saw his face calm as he fell into a deep sleep. "He is fine now. He will be completely okay after waking up," I said to her and turned to leave, but I was feeling weak. I wiped the sweats off my face and was about to leave the room when she held my hand, and I looked at her. "Only helping you because you look so weak," she said, and I rolled my eyes.
We walked down the stairs, and I saw the expectant eyes of her family members. "He is..." I was about to speak when a small boy ran over and hugged Nora's leg, "Mama! You're back!"
