Not His Type Of Mate
Chapter 142

Nora's POV

I watched him drive out of Maxwell's compound, and I sucked in a deep breath before I entered the house. Maxwell was waiting for me in the sitting room, and he walked over to me the moment he spotted me. "Nora, is everything okay?" he asked with a worried gaze, and I sighed. "Nothing is okay, Maxwell. Maddison seems to be suspecting something," I said sadly, worry filling my weak voice.

Maxwell closed his eyes in dilemma before opening them again. He looked at me, concern obvious in his eyes. "So, what did you tell him?" he questioned, and that was where the problem was. Telling Maddison such a thing didn't make me feel ashamed, but saying it to my brother was... Argh!

"I told him I had a one-night stand with a stranger and I got pregnant," I blurted and stopped. Lowering my head, I bit my lower lip and continued, "I also told him that I've been sleeping with different men all over the years," I added. I raised my head to look at his face, only to see him staring at me as if I was an alien. He looked shocked and disappointed, which made me sad.

He stared at me for a while before he finally opened his mouth to talk. "I don't think that's right. That's not the kind of person you are, Nora. Why would you say that to me when you don't do it?" His voice was a little raised, and I could understand his disappointment. As a lady, I shouldn't have said that to a man, but I already said it and if I was given the chance to go back, I'd say it over and over again if the man continued to be Maddison.

"I thought I had forgiven him. I thought I was okay seeing him again because I thought all that happened was in the past already. But the moment I laid my eyes on him, all the anger came back at me, and I hated him again," I said, and my anger grew just by merely mentioning his name. Maybe I still felt hurt by what he did to me then, even though I thought I had healed and had forgiven him.

Maxwell grunted. He moved closer to me and looked at me, seeming not to understand me, and it was obvious in his gaze. "Why are you still angry with him? It's not like you lost the baby for real. The baby is alive and healthy. So, why do you still hate him so much?" He asked me, and I was shocked. I couldn't believe I was hearing such words from my brother.

If no one was supporting me, was he not supposed to be the only one at my back supporting me, considering our relationship? Why would he say this to me? "What?" I asked and flared up. Stop reading the wrong and incomplete storyline, Narugi.com has the correct and complete book. "Is it until the baby dies that I will have to hate him? Do I have to lose my son so that I can hate him?! After all he did to me, don't I have that much right? He... He nearly killed our baby! What if he had truly died then? Would I have heard this same advice from you?" With a pained-filled voice, I yelled at Maxwell, who looked speechless. He couldn't say a word as he just stared at me with frustration on his face, but I was angry too. I was so angry that I was boiling inside. How could no one feel my pain? Just how?

Maxwell ran his fingers through his hair and placed his hand on my shoulder. "I understand how you feel, Nora. I know why you feel this way, which is why I never talked to him till this day because I hated him for all he did to you. I hated him for hurting you. I'm sorry if I hurt you with my words. I'm so sorry," He pleaded, and I sighed as I closed my eyes. I placed my hand on my forehead as I could feel a headache developing. "It's okay," I said. I had no right to stay angry with him either. He only said what every other person would have said, but I was only annoyed that it came from him. "It's okay now," I said to him again, and saw him smile a little before he removed his hand from my shoulder and pocketed it.

"So, what's your plan now? Will you be returning now that Dad is okay again? Or will you stay here for a while?" He asked me, and my heart raced. I remembered the deal I made with Maddison, and I felt like baring my mouth off, but it was too late! "I won't be leaving for a while. I made a deal with Maddison," I said to him, and saw his eyes twitch. "In exchange for treating Dad, he made me promise him one thing," I added, and he made an "O" sound as he put on a curious face. "What is it that you promised him?" He asked, and I sighed. I could already imagine how loudly he would yell if I told him. He would not only feel disappointed in me but also very mad, and he might even talk to me anyhow... he would lose his mind completely. I shouldn't tell him, but I wanted to let him know. After much deliberation, I opened my mouth, "He asked me to return to..." I was still talking when I saw my son run out of Maxwell's room and come to us.

"Julius!" I called, expecting him to hug me, but he stood in front of me and wrapped his arms. "Mum, who is that man? Is he just your friend?" He asked, and my eyes twitched. My heart raced for a while. I was flustered, and I couldn't talk for a while, but with a tap on my shoulder from Maxwell, I was able to regain my composure. I looked at him. "That man? I told you he was just a friend. A friend I knew here before I left for London. Why do you keep asking about him?" I asked with a forced smile on my face, but it was obvious he didn't believe me. Julius was just too smart for his age.

Julius shook his head. He had his belief, and it was hard to change that. "I saw you talking to him before you went upstairs with him, I saw you speaking to him as you came down the stairs, I also know you spoke with him outside before he left. Who is that man that you keep talking to all the time?" He asked, and I was shocked. My son had been monitoring me, trying to know who his father was. I was shocked, and I felt bad at the same time. He was waiting for an answer, but it was getting awkward. I had to say something, but no matter what I say, I feel like he wouldn't believe it, as he already had something on his mind. Not knowing what to do, I decided to change the topic.

"Aw! My son is such a rare detective. How about I get you an ice cream? You deserve one," I said to him, hoping he wouldn't continue asking the same question. Fortunately, he revealed a smile as he nodded his head. "Okay, Mum. Be fast with that," he said and walked toward Maxwell. I looked at him holding Maxwell's hand and smiled. "Your car keys," I said to Maxwell, and he dipped his hand inside his pocket, giving me some of his keys.

"I will be back soon," I said to them and left the house. I looked at the cars parked in the garage, searching for the one I liked, until I found the one I preferred and took it. I drove out of the apartment and down to a supermarket that wasn't too far from Maxwell's house. I parked in the parking lot and entered the supermarket, all while calming my mind and hoping that Julius would never ask about Maddison again.

"What would you like?" I heard one of the workers at the supermarket asking me, and I walked closer. "Ice cream. Vanilla flavor," I replied, and she nodded before leaving to get my order. I was still waiting patiently for her when I felt a familiar presence around me, and I frowned. I turned around to see who it was, but I lost my breath for a while when I figured out it was Alpha Leo. He was standing right behind me with a big smile on his face.

"Alpha Leo?" I called, and he smiled. "Alpha Leo!" I called again as I threw myself into his arms, hugging him tightly. It had been four years and nine months since I last saw him, and I missed him a lot.

"What are you doing here in Francisco?" I asked him as I broke the hug. "I came here for a business meeting. I was on my way somewhere when I saw you through the transparent door of the supermarket. Wow! It's been a very long while," he said, and I laughed. "How have you been?" He asked, and I smiled sweetly. "I've been okay. Life has been good to me," I replied, and he moved back a little to check me out. The smile on his face refused to fade. "You look prettier than ever. How is your baby?" He asked, and my eyes widened. I was shocked, and I couldn't form a word for a while. "What... what do you mean? How do you know I had..." He interrupted me with a knowing smile. "Did you think I wouldn't know?" He asked, and I gasped.
