Not His Type Of Mate -
Chapter 143
Nora's POV
I was shocked. Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought that he knew anything about my son because I've kept it so meticulously. I made sure no one knew except the ones I told myself, and the fact that Madison didn't know made me more confident that I had done well. Until Alpha Leo told me he knew. Like, he knew? I couldn't believe it. "How did you know?" No matter how hard I thought about it, I had no idea how he got to know, and I was curious. I wanted to know; I wanted to replace out where he heard it from. He smiled at me and looked around the supermarket before he returned his attention to me again. "This is not the right place to talk, Nora. Let's replace somewhere better to go." He suggested, and I nodded. He had an indisputable point that I couldn't argue with. I turned to look at the lady from whom I had placed my order a few minutes ago, and I saw her packaging it already. "This is it, Ma'am," she said, and I collected the ice cream before paying with my card. "We can leave now," I said to Alpha Leo, who kept staring at me as if I had grown some parts he had no idea about.
We left the supermarket, and I looked around searching for his guards, but there was no one. "Where are your men? Did you not come with them?" I asked, and he nodded. "I came alone. The business deal isn't that safe, so I came on a low profile. I did not come with any guards," he said to me, and I made an 'Oh' sound before walking toward my car. "Should we go to a café then?" I asked, and he agreed. "That would be fine." We entered my car, and I drove us to a café that wasn't far from the supermarket. We arrived at the café and found a seat, where we sat down and placed an order. "So, tell me, how did you replace out about my son?" I asked him, as I was very curious. Throughout the drive to this place, the first thing on my mind was to get to the café and ask him how he knew. The curiosity was killing me!
He looked at me with amusement in his eyes and chuckled. "You look like you've hidden it so well that no one could know," he said, and I nodded my head. It was the truth. I had done a lot to hide my son from the world. "I did all I could. I never showed him to the media, I hid my personal life from the media because of him, and it never popped up on any social media before because no one knows. Throughout all the times I've received awards, I never let him join me so that Maddison wouldn't know. "How did you know? The only two people who knew about him were Maxwell and his nanny. Apart from those two, no one else knew," I told him, and he smiled again. "Well... I've been following your social media accounts since you left, and truthfully, there was nothing there. I get your books anytime they're released, and I never missed any," he explained, and I nodded. He was indeed right, and it made me a little excited that he had my collections. "Two years ago, I suddenly became worried about you, and I tried to check up on you, but you were nowhere to be found. I sent my men to look for you, and after several failed attempts, they were finally able to replace you. That was when they brought in the report that you were in London and you had a son," he explained, and I was surprised. I didn't say a word for a while, but I later cleared my throat as I was glad he had checked up on me. "Thank you so much. I appreciate the fact that you checked up on me," I replied, and he smiled. "So, does Maddison know?" He asked me, and I frowned. "He saw my boy and asked whose son, but I told him he wasn't his son. Well... It's not like he is the father," I said, and he sneered. "Really? Who are you saying that to? Why would you say he's not his son?" He asked, and my heart clenched. I looked at him and tried to act ignorant. "The boy isn't Maddison's. I expect you to know that," I said to him, but he shook his head. "Don't lie to me, Nora. The boy is Maddison's, and I know it," he replied, and my eyes widened. My heart started racing; he knew too much about me already. "How did you know that again?" I asked him with a worried-filled voice, and he scoffed. "I'm not a fool, Nora. Who wouldn't know the father of your child?" He asked, and I smiled. It was all speculation; he had no evidence, and there is still room to convince him. "Well... You are wrong this time around. My son is not Maddison's. I conceived him after losing Maddison's baby," I lied to him, trying to convince him, but he wasn't convinced at all, and he was looking at me like I was a pathetic liar whose lies wouldn't even move a little kid.
I groaned and ran my fingers through my hair. "The child is mine alone. Maddison killed his child four years ago, and he no longer has a child with me," I explained to him, and he sighed. "I'm telling the truth; I had a one-night stand after leaving Maddison, and it led to pregnancy. I didn't want to abort it, so I left it that way and gave birth to my son," I lied, but he didn't believe me, and I knew it. "Have you forgotten that I'm an Alpha and I'm very intelligent? I'm not a fool, Nora, and there is no way you can play with my intelligence like that. I know the baby belongs to Madison. Why are you trying to hide him away from his father?" He asked, and I was annoyed. His words struck me the wrong way, and my anger rose. "Maddison ? Tell Maddison? Why should I tell him?" I questioned, and I saw his eyes fall. That was when I realized I had raised my voice, and I was too harsh. I cleared my throat and lowered my voice. "I can't go back to Maddison...," I continued. "He doesn't know how the baby survived after what he did to me then, and I'm scared of going back to him. He might do worse," I said, feeling a little emotional. He looked at me and sighed. "I want you to know that what Maddison did then was a mistake, and it was out of anger too. You know he loves you, and he would never want to hurt you. You should forgive him and give him the chance to make it up to you," he tried to persuade me, but I only smiled bitterly.
A server delivered the coffee we had ordered, and I picked up mine. Sipping it, I looked at him and said, "I can't forgive him. There's no way I can forgive him, and I'll never go back to him again."
Alpha Leo seemed frustrated for a moment. He opened his mouth as if he wanted to say something, but then he stopped himself and sighed. He gazed into the distance for a while before shrugging. "How have you been these past years? You're glowing so much, and it's obvious you've been living well," he said, changing the topic. It seemed he was tired of my stubbornness, but I was okay with that. I smiled, took another sip of my coffee, and he did the same. "I've been well. From writing to taking care of my son and then back to writing again. It's been boring but fulfilling," I said to him, and he smiled. "That's great. I can see that you've been living a good life," he said and placed his coffee on the table.
We were both quiet for a while before I turned to him and asked, "Why didn't you tell him when you found out I had his son with me? The way he was asking me back then, it was obvious he had no idea about the child. Why didn't you tell him?" I was curious. I expected him to inform Maddison, considering their relationship, but he didn't say anything, and I was confused about his silence.
He stayed quiet for a moment, but it was evident he wasn't searching for an answer, as he already had one. "I didn't want to interfere in your love fight. I'm tired of this never-ending love triangle," he said, and I felt a pang in my heart. I was annoyed, but I managed to calm down and cleared my throat. "And what about you? How have you been living all these years? Are you married now?" I asked, trying to change the topic that kept making my blood boil.
"As you can see, I'm not as lucky as you and Maddison. I haven't had my second chance Mate," he said, and I felt a bit sorry for him. Leo would be a perfect mate to anyone. Perhaps I would have ended up with him if not for some circumstances. "Don't be ridiculous." Lolita snapped at me, but I choose to ignore her.
"But it's fine." He chuckled and shrugged. "If I don't replace her, I'll marry someone else and mark them, making them my mate myself," he said with a bitter smile while I just stared with mixed feelings.
