Lord Maddison's POV

Smiles filled my face as I watched her sleeping soundly on my bed. She looked tired and exhausted from the foreplay we engaged in, and I wondered how she would fare if I actually made love to her, just as I have been dreaming of. I took a sip of my drink and continued to stare at her until a voice sounded in my head.

"Maddison," Leo called through our mind link, which made me frown because I thought he was reaching out to me due to me touching Nora, which was none of his business.

"Leo, she is also my mate, and I have the right to touch her," I said, noticing he went silent for a moment before he spoke.

"I'm not reaching out to you because of that," he said, and I furrowed my brow.

"I'm going to war, Maddison. The meeting we had with the vampires didn't go well, and we thought they had accepted our demands, but we were wrong. Just a few hours ago, they attacked the Forest Pack, and I believe they are coming for other packs as well. The werewolves have declared war, and we will be fighting on neutral ground, the Boreal Forest, in a few hours from now," he said, and I groaned, standing to my feet.

Leo remained silent for a moment until I decided to speak. "You know the hybrids can't help the werewolves or the vampires. We are a mix of both beings," I said, and he quickly responded.

"I'm not reaching out to you for you to fight with us. The werewolves can handle it," he said, and I frowned.

"I understand you are in your kingdom," he said, and I hummed.

"Please keep her safe and don't let her come back to the pack until the war is over," he pleaded, and I sighed. "Why aren't you telling her this yourself?" I grumbled, and he remained silent for a moment before speaking.

"I don't want her to worry about me," he said, and I sighed. "Please take care of her, Maddison. I might not make it," he said, and his words made my heart skip a beat.

"What are you saying, Leo? You have the gift of flames and strength. You are never scared of battles," I tried encouraging him, but he sighed and went silent for a moment before speaking. "I have been dreaming about my death, Maddison. Even Nora has seen it in her dream," he said, and I didn't know what to say.

Here was Leo, my favorite cousin, about to go to war, and I just couldn't do anything.

"Take care of her and my mother, and if I don't come back, then be sure you've won," he said, ending the mind link.

With panic, I stared at sleeping Nora and wondered what would become of her if something happened to Leo. "You are here. Nothing will happen to her," my wolf assured me. I sighed and paced around the room, thinking of what to do.

Quickly, I made a call to Lord Silas, the head of the vampire clans, but he wasn't responding to his calls.

"Shit!" I groaned and roughly ran my fingers through my hair. I was confused and didn't know what to do. I quickly made a mind link to Aunt.

"Aunt," I called through telepathy, and she quickly responded.

"Maddison," she responded in a low tone. "There is a war again. I'm scared of losing my son," she sobbed, causing my heart to clench in my chest.

"Nothing is going to happen to Leo. Have you forgotten that he's one of the special ones?" I encouraged her, but it didn't work. "I'm scared, Maddison. I have been having countless dreams of him lying in a pool of his own blood," she sobbed, and I didn't know what to say to comfort her.

"Aunt, you should come stay here with me," I suggested, but she refused. "I will stay here and wait for him," she sobbed, causing my heart to sink.

"Nothing is going to happen to him," I assured her before she ended the mind link.

"Damn it!" I groaned loudly, waking Nora up from her sleep.

She held my gaze with a furrowed brow as she sat on the bed. "Is everything okay?" she asked, and I quickly nodded my head and climbed onto the bed.

I wrapped my arms around her, holding her close to me. "Everything will be fine, Nora," I reassured her, though deep down, I wasn't so sure myself. The weight of Leo's impending battle hung heavily over me.

Nora looked at me intently, her eyes filled with concern. "What's going on, lord Maddison? Something is bothering you. Please, tell me."

I took a deep breath, trying to gather my thoughts. "It's just a matter of the kingdom. Don't be bothered about it," I lied.

I couldn't tell her about the fight because I knew she would remain worried until it's over.

"Are you sure everything is okay?" she asked, and I nodded before placing a kiss on her forehead.

I noticed she remained silent for a moment, which made me curious about what she was thinking, and out of curiosity, I asked, "What are you thinking?" She shrugged her shoulders. "Nothing," she responded and squeezed herself tightly in my arms.

"Let's go to bed," I said, and she scoffed.

"It's only 4 pm," she grumbled, and I chuckled. "I just want to sleep with you in my arms," I said, and she hummed and closed her eyes.

I watched her fall asleep in my arms, but I couldn't fall asleep because I was worried about the fight and what was happening to Leo.

I stayed awake, lost in thought, until suddenly Nora jerked out of my arms. Her eyes turned into a dark shade of grey.

"Nora," I called out to her in panic, but she ignored me, closed her eyes, and I knew she was trying to establish a mind link with Leo. "Why am I not getting any signal from him?" she asked in panic and opened her eyes.

"What is wrong?" I asked.

"It's Alpha Leo. I feel like something is wrong with... my chest," she exclaimed and held on to her chest.
