Once Rejected, Thrice Accepted -
Chapter 96
Walking back into the forest | noticed Sabine standing with six adults that all looked confused and a bit scared to be standing next to a witch. They probably had no idea why they were there and only said yes because their leaders asked them too. I just had to hope that whatever Sabine was throwing at us wasn't going to make them regret their 'yes' or hate me.
"Your better at being on time than your mother ever way."
Sabine teased as I shifted and dressed behind a nearby tree. "Let's see if you a quick learner like her." "Ok." I nodded hello at the pack members with her. "Thank you for helping out with whatever this is." "Of course, Luna. We are happy to help." One of the three females replied with a genuine smile.
"Ok, well lots of things to do in a short amount of time so let's get ready." Sabine moved me over to the side before pointing at one of the guys. "You over here while the others back up just a few steps. I need Gemma to be able to focus on you and what you say only."
He nodded and did as he was told. He seemed to be a bit nervous and jittery with the way his hands were shaking as he stood in front of me.
"Now Gemma focus on him, his aura, the way his chest moves when he breathes, and the way the words sound when he speaks." I nodded still a bit confused myself. "I want you to ask him questions and he will lie on some and tell the truth on others. The lie will vary from a white lie to outright bullshit. Think you both can handle it?"
"What's the point of me listening to all that when I am a human lie detector?"
"You can't always rely on that and you may need help to keep doing it. Plus this strengthens other abilities you may or may not have."
We nodded and she smirked. I think she was enjoying this a bit too much. Rude.
"Ok, so... um... What's your name?" Start off easy and hope for the best is the ideology I am sticking to.
"Jack." His aura stayed still and his heart never changed its beat. The answer was verified with Moonlights answer.
"Truth."
"Good. Now let's try some hard ones and actually get practice in. Anything that is a lie I have the numbers to some of their friends and family so I can verify if they fight the answer." She gave the group a knowing glance. I could see them all gulp. "Ok Jack. Do you think the females of this pack should be training and fighting alongside the men?"
His eye widened as he did his best not to look me in the eye. I already knew before he spoke it was going to include a lie. Moonlight was not happy about that being an opinion of a pack mates:
"They can totally train with us. Some of our best... fighters are female." He rubbed his hands on my cargo shorts like they were wet from sweat. "In the battlefield I am unsure about it. Women are the only reason the humankind are still alive."
The first part was utter s**t from what Moonlight growled out and the way his Aura changed colors. The second part was a bit truer but it felt like his feelings ran deeper than he was letting on. It was more like he wanted us barefoot and pregnant in the house bringing them their meals and putting out when they wanted it no matter when or how much. This was something I would have to talk to the guys about.
"Gemma, what do you think? Lies or truth?" She wasn't smiling anymore as she spoke. He was sweating more so I knew he was stressing that he was asked that.
"Lies and then truth." I held back my anger and just left my face blank. He didn't need to know how disappointed I was in him in front of everyone. I would let Leo and Lucas have a talk with him.
"Ok. Thanks for that Jack. You can head back." She turned away from him effectively dismissing him.
I sent a link to the guys to catch up to him and they agreed.
They knew they lived on the outskirts, but to be that judgment of the women, who are some of the best fighters, doesn't really work for this pack. That was the mentality of a few of our enemy packs which made it even more concerning.
"Next is this one. I can tell a few things about her that will shock you if you ask the right questions." Sabine pointed to the tallest female in the group sending her my way. "Pay attention to her aura. It's an interesting one."
I nodded letting my eyes focus on the spaces around her until her aura stood out. It had its full color but on the edges it was mixed with another. It felt worried, guilty, and unsure of itself as it sputtered around her. Moonlight became concerned but she wasn't sure if it was for this pack member or for the pack itself.
"Let's start with your name." I gave her a comforting smile to help ease her nerves.
"Sydney." Her tone of voice sounded off with a bit of a whine in it. Her aura stayed the same.
"Truth." I didn't wait for Sabine to say anything before answering. "Why do I make you nervous?"
"You don't make me nervous. I am excited to finally speak with our Luna." She said nonchalantly.
"Lie." I almost shouted. I could just feel the ickiness of it being a lie. I wasn't sure how to explain it any farther to anyone let alone myself.
"No, I swear. I just-" She tried to object but I just shook my head at her response.
"Sydney, I can cast a spell that has you telling the truth. So just go ahead. No one will judge you unless its like epically shitty" Sabine told her without even looking at her.
Sydney dropped her head. "I. lused to... with Duncan before.... And then you took him.. Hate you." She mumbled her reply with me only catching a few words here and there but I got the point.
Moonlights teeth bared shaking my body with a growl I did my best to hide. It was before we found him so we didn't have a right to react. She wasn't throwing it in our face or trying to kill us so this was a step forward.
I took a deep breath fighting against Moonlights need for blood. "I am sorry me showing up and being mated to Duncan hurt you. I hope when you replace your mate you will understand the pull of the bond and the love that happens."If you are not reading this book from the website: Narugi.com then you are reading a pirated version with incomplete content. She shook her head as she finally let her sobs make a sound. "That doesn't help. You stole the man I wanted. The one I wanted to mate with, have kids with, and so much more. You weren't even a part of this pack."
"I think you should leave." Sabine stepped in letting me off the hook before I punched her pretty little face. "You know about the mate bond and you believe in it as do all wolves.
Don't make an a*s of yourself because the guy you were f*****g found his mate. If you had you would have done the same thing."
She flinched at the words but nodded. She left leaving us with four more pack members to question. Sabine didn't let me off the hook but instead had me do two at once. She asked the questions this time to add in a twist. Each time I could feel the power grow within myself. Eventually this was going to be a piece of cake. I just had to hope my other powers would end up the same.
