Owned By Her Triplet Bullies -
(Bk 2) Chapter 23
Lexi's POV
I tore the sheets I was writing on, scrunched it up and threw it on the floor of my bedroom. My room was in a mess, they were papers laying all around. I tried to solve an equation again but I couldn't. I groaned and flung the notebook across the room. This was hopeless. I've been at it for hours but I couldn't get one question right. All I achieved was littering my room. Was I that dumb? I didn't even realize it until the principal called my attention to it. I screamed out of frustration clearing out the entire content of my table. I suddenly heard a knock on my door.
"Lexi? Is everything okay?" mum asked worriedly.
"I'm fine," I replied.
"You didn't sound fine when you screamed. Open up," she said. I walked towards the door and opened it. I didn't wait for her to walk in before dragging my feets towards the chair and pathetically sinking myself into it. "Your room is in a mess," she said, stepping on some papers as she walked in.
"Tell me something I don't know," I grumbled.
"What's the problem dear? I heard you screaming from the kitchen," she asked in a concerned tone.
"I'm having trouble studying. I can't seem to understand anything in these books," I complained bitterly.
"Are you sure that's all there is to it? You've tried to study before and when it didn't work, you never looked this stressed. Is something else bothering you?" she inquired.
"No," I replied curtly, sounding unconvinced by my own answer. She was right. What was wrong with me today? I've always known I didn't have the best of brains but why was that fact getting to me today? Mason. Deep down, I knew I was angry because I let him see me in my vulnerable state. As if rubbing his perfect brains and proving that I was not good when it came to school work on my face was not enough. He also had to see me like that.
"Are you sure?" she asked skeptically.
"I am," I replied.
"If there's something else, you know you can talk to me right? You can tell me anything. I'm here to listen. I feel like something is bothering you," she probed. I couldn't tell her about Mason. I would never tell anyone. I was going to leave for college soon anyway. And then, I never get to see his face ever again. But the thought of getting good grades before I could get into college dampened my spirit all over again.
"I'm just scared I will never be able to graduate from high school or go to college. I don't want to be a liability to you and dad," I muttered truthfully.
"Sweetheart, why would you say that? You can never be a liability to us. We are blessed by the moon goddess because we have you," she assured me with a smile.
"You are only saying that because you aren't tired of me yet. How can you be blessed when you have a dumb child like me? I had 30% on the assessments today. The lowest in my class. I'm a liability to them too. I might even get kicked out of school if my grades don't improve," I explained worriedly.
"Everyone gets bad grades. You are not the first and certainly won't be the last. If that's the reason why you are so worried, I will have a word to the principal to assign a private tutor to you. That will help you immensely. I'm sure she can do that," she replied. Oh no! If mum speaks to the principal, that would mean she will replace out about everything. Including the fact that I had refused the tutor she assigned to me. The only way out now was to tell the truth.
"Actually, she assigned a tutor to me today after the assessment results were released," I confessed.
"That's great then. You have nothing more to worry about. Who did she assign to you?" she asked. "A classmate," I responded.
"That's a good thing. Why are you still upset? Is there something else?" she inquired curiously.
"No, I'm fine. I got better after talking to you," I replied. She smiled widely.
"Well then, inform me when you've come up with a plan for your tutoring sessions," she said.
I nodded. "I will."
She stood up and left. I followed after her and shut the door. I'm doomed, I thought as I sat back down dejectedly. There's no way in hell I could escape being tutored by Mason now. Reason was because I needed it badly and the most important of all, mum knows about it now. Unless.....I could replace another genius who could tutor me instead and I happen to know a very pretty one who was my friend.
I smiled widely at my idea. I hurriedly picked up my phone and called Mady. She didn't pick up even after calling several times, so I decided to go to her place instead. Talking to her physically would be better anyway. I got dressed and walked over to the kitchen to inform mum about my plans.
"Mum, I'm going over to a friend's place," I said.
"Alright. Be careful and inform me if you will be coming late," she replied. I nodded and headed out. My cab was already waiting outside. I got in and we drove off. We arrived soon and I walked over to the front door gently ringing the doorbell. My phone suddenly started to ring and it was Mady.
"I'm so sorry I couldn't pick up your calls. I was so busy," she apologized immediately I picked up.
"It's okay. I called you because I was hoping you would be my tutor," I replied.
"I would have loved to but I'm afraid I don't have the time. I'm busy in the hospital," she said. "Hospital?" I asked in surprise.
"Yes. I'm taking lessons from my mum. She's a doctor, remember?" she asked.
"Right," I responded feeling low in spirit again. I had come with the hope of getting tutored by Mady but even she was busy.
"Why don't you ask Mason instead? If you can't, I can do so on your behalf. As much as I hate to admit, he's better at this stuff than I am. You saw our scores," she said. If only she knew he was the first option given to me but I didn't want it to be him.
"Call me if you've come to a conclusion. I need to go now. Bye," she said before hanging up. The door was opened and I contemplated if I should head back home or go up into her room. I decided to go to her room instead. Heading home now will only add to my sadness. I greeted the lady at the door before going in. I walked up to Mady's room and found the door unlocked. I gently pushed the door open and stepped in. I met her laying on her bed with the sheets shielding her from my view.
I kicked away my shoes and laid down beside her.
"This was what you were so busy with? Sleeping? I'm upset," I said, placing my hand around her waist.
"But, you are forgiven. You can't tell your brother about what I asked you. The truth is your brother was supposed to be my tutor but I refused him and asked you instead. I'm sorry to say but I just don't like him and I'm always uncomfortable when he's around. I know I lied to you about this and I'm so sorry. I just didn't know what I was supposed to say or how I was going to say it," I said plainly. I waited for her to say something but she never did. She didn't even ask me anything when I lay beside her. "Mady? Why aren't you responding? Are you angry with me?" I asked moving closer to her and wrapping my hands around her waist.
"Have you always been this hard?" I asked in awe as my hands made their way towards her stomach. She held my hand abruptly to stop me. I frowned, her hand didn't feel like Mady's or a girl's hand at all. Who was I laying in bed with?. "You said you hated me yet you are laying beside me and holding me in your arms," I heard a deep voice mutter. I screamed, quickly pulled away.
"Mason? What the f**k are you doing here and why didn't you say anything when I came in?" I asked, still in shock. He removed the blanket from his body.
"That was because I unintentionally fell asleep on her bed in my house. What is so wrong with that? You are the strange one here. How could you hold me like that?" he asked like I was the pervert invading his privacy. His eyes were a bit puffy since he just woke up from sleep and his hair was ruffled still, he looked so alluring. I couldn't deny his looks no matter how I tried.
"Why do you have to be so handsome? Kind of annoying," I mumbled before I could stop myself.
