(Bk 2) Chapter 35

Mason's

POV

I parked my car outside before heading in. As soon as I opened the door, I was met with Mady's worrie "Mady, didn't you say you were going to be at the hospital?" I asked. She gave me a look that said 'is t "Mum said she would stay. She wanted us to rest and get ready for school tomorrow," she replied. "Where are you coming from? And what is that you are holding?" Father Julian asked, referring to the "Out. I had something important to take care of. I got this while I was outside," I responded. "Something more important than taking good care of your sister? Or coming to the office early like we "Please don't get angry. Let's talk calmly. I'm sure Mason didn't mean to miss the appointment," Mady "Don't make excuses for him, Mady. You can't keep doing that forever. He made a mistake and he will "I missed it just this one time. What's the big deal? I might as well just review it tomorrow," I responde "Mason," Mady whispered. Father Alex stood up from his chair and walked towards me.

"How many times have I told you that this nonchalant behavior of yours will take you nowhere? Have "You have but..,"

"It's a yes or no question. Look me in the eye while you answer it," he ordered. I looked at him withou "Yes, you have," I replied.

"So why do you keep disobeying me? Are you doing this for fun or you are trying to rebel?" he asked. "None," I replied curtly.

"You are not like other kids your age. You are completely different from them and the sooner you acce mistakes that could have been avoided. You might think we are harsh on you but we are just trying to position to do so. Understood?" he asked.

"I understand," I replied without taking my eyes off his, my fists clenched tightly beside me.

"Good. The files are in your room. Since you think you are so good, better than us even, review every single one of them and write out the plans and possible solutions you can come up with. Tomorrow unfailingly," he ordered before heading into his office. "Have you found your mate yet?" Father Philip asked. I was used to the question so it wasn't surprising. "No," I replied.

"That's strange. You should have found her by now. You are going to be nineteen soon. Most people replace theirs at this time. Should we perhaps hold something like a party to help you in replaceing her quickly? Julian, what do you think?" he asked.

"I think it's a good idea. It would be good to hold the mating ceremony while they are still young. The position of the next Luna will also be secured, that way the council won't be able to do anything funny. Trust me when I say this Mason but replaceing your mate is the best thing that can ever happen to you. Your life will appear more meaningful, you will understand better after we..."

"I don't want that," I replied, cutting him off. Mating ceremony and Luna? They were getting way ahead of themselves.

"Excuse me?" Father Julian asked with a frown.

"Mason, what are you saying?" Mady who had been sitting on the chair quietly sprang up sounding nervous.

"You don't want a mate? Is that what you are saying?" Father Philip inquired.

"I never said that. I don't want any party or for anyone to replace my mate for me. I can replace her myself and if I don't, we will meet someday. It's not something that should be forced. If that's all, I need to head to my room now. I'm sure you all know there is a pile of files in my room waiting to be reviewed. I can't waste anymore time as it will take me the whole night," I explained walking towards my room.

I heard hurried footsteps behind me and I knew it was Mady. I got into my room and tried to close but she quickly placed her leg between the door before I could. I left the door open and walked towards my reading table.

"Where did you go?" she asked.

"Like I said, I was out," I responded.

"No one is stupid. We all know you were out, where exactly did you go? If you had just apologized and admitted to your mistakes, all this would never have happened," she said pointing towards the files. I took a seat and picked up one. "Can you please leave? I'm trying to work here," I said to her.

"Gladly. I would have loved to help you out but this is not just my thing. I have no idea what I'm supposed to review or plan so I will gladly leave you alone. This looks like it's going to take time. I will send someone to bring a cup of coffee to you. Goodluck," she said, making her way out of the room. I picked up a pen and began to write down some things. An omega soon came in with a cup of coffee. I drank it and had Lexi's mum cookies. It was amazing.

I spent the rest of the night going through each and every one. When I was finally done, it was almost day break. I decided to just get some exercise done instead of taking a nap before heading to school. I had so much on my mind that I needed to have some air. What better way to unwind and exercise than by myself.

Lyall's POV

I have never felt more alive than I do right now. The air brushing through my fur was simply exhilarating. Mason rarely ever allowed me to run to school. But something was on his mind today and he wanted to let it off his chest. After running laps, I ran towards his school. It was still early so I was sure most of the students hadn't arrived yet. I suddenly saw someone run past me. I stopped to take a proper look just as she also stopped. She turned around and our eyes met, the world moved slowly around us.

It was her. I immediately felt the connection to my mate. The mate who hated me with passion without any reason. I never did anything wrong to her. I barely knew her to have done anything that brought this hatred.

"I don't hate you," she replied.

"Then what is this we are doing? Aren't we supposed to be mates? It's a gift given to us by the moon goddess yet Mason and Lexi keep fighting each time. If you tell me what's going on, we might be able to sort this out. Together," I assured her. We silently stood conversing with our eyes. She walked towards me and rubbed her head with mine whimpering softly.

"If you didn't want me, you could have rejected me. Why didn't you do that?" I asked curiously. Her body offered me warmth and I never wanted her to stop what she was doing.

"I don't hate you enough to reject you. I will never do that, no one deserves that pain," she replied.

"Then, what are we doing? Is it going to be like this forever? Knowing we are mates but can't do anything to be close to each other?" I inquired in a frustrated tone. She was as stubborn as Lexi was.

"I don't know what the future holds either. I guess we'll just have to let nature take its course," she remarked, moving back away from me.

"If you won't be with me, at least tell me the reason. I should know why you are doing this to us right? Did I do anything wrong or was it Mason?" I uttered.

"You didn't do anything. Neither did Mason. Both of you have no fault in this," she hurriedly responded.

"Then, what's wrong?" I probed.

"It's not you. It's me," she muttered sadly. That piqued my attention.

"What do you mean by that?" I asked.

"This was a mistake. I should never have spoken to you. I need to go," she replied as she turned around and ran off.
