Owned By Her Triplet Bullies -
(Bk 2) Chapter 44
Lexi's POV
His eyes suddenly changed their color to a bright golden hue. I glanced around to confirm if anyone else saw them after warning him about it. But everyone seemed to be in their own world. I turned back towards him and his eyes had changed back to their original steely gray.
"I'm sorry if I startled you. I didn't mean to," he apologized. I don't know if it was intentional or not but his hand on my waist kept on moving slowly. He brushed his thumb on my waist. I pulled away when I started to become more and more aware of his hand on my heated skin. Right at that moment, the music stopped. I turned around to leave but I bumped into Mady.
"There you are. I've been searching for you," she said with a smile.
"Really?" I asked, glancing at Mason and wondering if she saw anything that looked inappropriate.
"Let me introduce you to my other family members," she said excitedly, pulling me along.
"Uncle John, Aunt Ria," she called out, stopping by in front of a couple. Was it me or were all her family members this good-looking? It was as if they all walked out of a magazine.
"My favorite goddaughter," the woman squealed, pulling her into a hug. Vivian cleared her throat suddenly appearing behind them. She had a specialty in sudden appearances. "You've gotten yourself into trouble," her husband muttered.
"Vivian, you have nothing to worry about. You have a special place in my heart. You are going to be my daughter-in-law after all," she assured her. "Aunty!" she screeched looking embarrassed.
"That's the first thing I'm going to do when I turn into an adult. Marry Vivian. There's no way you can escape from me. We are going to be together forever," a boy about Vivian's age declared confidently. I could tell they were his parents. The resemblance was obvious. "In your dreams," Vivian retorted.
"Hello, in-law. Little nephew and nieces and of course you cousin," a man greeted with a smile walking towards us with a woman linked to his arm.
"Uncle Xander, Aunt Judith," Mady called out with a wide smile running into their arms. How many aunties and uncles? I couldn't seem to keep us. My family only consisted of my mum, my dad and I. I stood on the sidelines and watched their exchange without uttering a word.
"Vivian, when did you get back? Wow, you've gotten taller," Xander said. I wasn't related to them in any way so I was just going to call them by their names. Calling them uncle or aunt would be weird.
"You seem to be forgetting the most important part. I became more beautiful," she replied, flinging her hair behind her.
"Everybody else might forget but I would never. I will remind you every single day till we both get old. You are beautiful Vivian," the boy said.
"Can you just get lost?" Vivian replied.
Mady laughed heartily as well as the others. "Wow Sean, that was so smooth."
"Where have you been? You are late. I'm sure you made Judith late too. You've always been like that," Ria said, hitting Xander's arm.
"Let's keep things quiet today. The reporters are here. I have a reputation to maintain," he replied.
"What reputation? Where are my niece and nephew? You didn't bring them?" she asked.
"They have school early tomorrow, they won't be able to keep up because of the distance," Judith replied. She nodded in response. Xander and Ria kept nudging each other with their elbows. I could tell they were very playful. I've always wondered how it would feel to have a sibling I can joke around with and tell my every secret. Mady turned towards me and saw me staring at them awkwardly.
"Lexi! I totally forgot the main reason we came was to introduce you. I'm so sorry. You must be surprised by us. In this family, one tends to lose focus sometimes," she apologized.
"It's fine," I replied with a smile. She held my hand. Everyone became quiet.
"Lexi, this is Aunt Ria and her husband Uncle John, and their son Sean. This is Uncle Xander and Aunt Judith, My nephew and niece unfortunately could not make it. I will introduce you to them some other time. Everyone meet Lexi, my friend," she introduced. "Good evening everyone. Nice to meet you," I greeted politely. Talking about pressure, I could feel all their gazes on me. I was a bit socially awkward.
"Hello, Lexi. Nice to meet you too," they replied.
"Uncle Xander is the Alpha of the Bluemoon pack," Mady whispered. My eyes widened in shock.
"G..good evening Alpha. Forgive my manners," I blurted out with a bow without thinking. Alpha? I never thought that far. He didn't look as intimidating as an Alpha normally does.
"And Aunt Ria owns the biggest and most successful technology company both in this pack and beyond. Torres is still trying to sign a partnership with her. You should visit her company with me someday," she said.
"I should?" I asked dumbly. All this information was overwhelming. I never thought I was standing in the midst of such successful and influential people. They were literally swimming in wealth. "And..."
"That's okay Mady. I don't think she can take it anymore. The poor girl looks so shocked," Ria said with a small smile.
"And you don't have to be so formal with me since you are Mady's friend. You are basically family," Alpha Xander said. Mason and Rachel joined us. Her hands were linked with Mason's arm. Why was that the first thing I saw immediately after they joined us? "Mason, are you okay?" Ria asked worriedly.
"I'm fine. I just went to the bathroom. Please don't ask me that again," he replied gently, removing Rachel's hand from his. He lied to everyone. None of them knew what really happened to him. Why would he do that?
"Now you know how I felt when you all kept asking me that," Vivian chipped in.
"Good evening everyone," Rachel greeted with a wide smile.
"Rachel, how are you?" Judith asked. She replied and they began to converse. They all seemed well acquainted. She spoke so well, not as awkward as I sounded earlier.
"Thank you for what you did earlier. By bringing Mason back and getting those nosy reporters off his back. It would have been a disaster. I can only imagine what the blogs would be saying tomorrow," Ria said, holding onto her hand. Wait a minute, I was the one who brought him back to the party, not Rachel. We both glanced at each other at the same time.
"That's right Rachel. We will all be forever grateful. Thank you so much," Mady added. They all truly believed Rachel brought him back including Mady. "Rachel didn't..," Mason started but Rachel cut him off.
"There's no need for appreciation between families. I was glad to help and besides, I would do anything for Mason," she replied, smiling at Mason. "Right," Mady replied.
"Mason, did you replace someone you have a connection with at this party? There are so many girls about your age here..," Alpha Xander started. Connection? He must be talking about his mate, which was undoubtedly me. I held my breath in anticipation. "I haven't yet. When I do, I will let you all know," he replied firmly. My ego deflated like a punctured balloon. What was I expecting? It was good that he didn't say anything anyway. Great actually. "Are you sure?" John inquired.
"I'm completely sure," Mason responded without wasting another second.
"Let's go to Emma. She's been calling us for a while," Ria said to Judith. She nodded and they both walked away.
"I will be right back," Mady said to me hurriedly following after them.
"I should leave too. Nice meeting you all once again," I said to them before quickly walking away from them. His words brought back old memories that I was desperately trying to forget.
"Lexi," I heard Vivian call out to me. I turned towards her. She was wearing the same dress as Mady and I but hers was pure white with a bow at the front.
"You've recovered," I said. I heard her say she hated being asked if she was okay.
"I have. Listen, I'm sorry for the position I put you in. I heard you were blamed for what happened," she replied.
"I won't say it's okay because it wasn't. Never go around eating people's food when you have no idea what's in it," I advised.
"I won't. Thank you for saying how you truly feel," she responded. I nodded.
"Vivian look what I found," Sean said excitedly coming towards us. Vivian groaned and hurriedly walked away. I grabbed a second glass of champagne from a waiter passing by. I poured it all into my mouth.
"Lexi, right? You are the one that my daughter took that sandwich from and also the person my son is tutoring," he said. I turned around to see who was speaking to me. My eyes widened in shock and I spat the rest of the champagne on his face. The chatters died down immediately. The glass fell from my hands. All I wanted was for the ground to open up and take me in it right at this moment. It would at least save me the humiliation.
