Owned By Her Triplet Bullies -
(Bk 2) Chapter 51
Lexi's POV
"Ugh! These damn reporters!" I spilled the soup on my spoon in surprise as Mady furiously typed on her phone. I wiped the table with a napkin. "Are you okay?" I asked. She has been like this for the past twenty minutes. She barely touched her food. She glanced at me and continued typing. "I'm sorry for startling you. It's just the comment section is so crazy that I'm starting to lose it," she replied.
"What comment section?" I inquired.
"Mine. I posted on my page debunking any rumors of Rachel and Mason being together. People are asking so many questions and I have to keep my cool in order to defend him," she said as she took a glass of water from the table and gulped it down. "You are such a good sister," I said with a smile. Mason was lucky to have a sibling like her.
"I hope I keep being one because I might lash out at them anytime soon. How could people be so gullible?" she asked.
"But is it just a rumor? Rachel herself announced it so confidently. If it was a lie, she never would have done something like that. The reporters too saw it. What I'm asking is, are you sure it's just a rumor? Something might be going on between them that you know nothing of," I inquired.
She looked up at me. "Mason said there's nothing going on between them and I completely believe him. As for Rachel, she didn't say the truth earlier."
My ears perked up with this news and it felt like a heavy weight was lifted from my shoulder and I suddenly felt lighter. Why was I feeling this way? I knew something was going on between them the first day she appeared. I had even called her Mason's girlfriend and he never denied it. They could be in a relationship for all I care. I wasn't curious at all.
"Why would she lie about something as serious as this, that is if it is a lie? Were they a couple before and they broke up?" I inquired. Maybe I was a little bit curious but it was just because I didn't want to get the wrong idea and say something I was not supposed to. She sighed and dropped her phone. "Where am I going to start from?"
"Is it such a complicated story?" I asked curiously.
"We've been friends with Rachel for a very long time. She was a ballet dancer, did you know that?" she inquired.
"A ballerina?" I inquired in surprise. Who would have ever thought? But thinking back to the first day I met her and saw her figure. My first impression was that she was probably a model. A ballerina also made a lot of sense.
Mady nodded. "She was a great ballet dancer. That was probably the first thing that intrigued Mason and the fact that she's very persistent. He is my brother but as you already know, he's a tough nut to crack," her facial expression made me chuckle. "Anyway, she was so good that her family made plans for her to compete in a nationwide contest. She won every single round and made it to the final round but on the night she was supposed to take a flight out of our pack, something happened," she explained. "What happened?" I asked curiously. I wasn't that interested in her before I was getting intrigued by her response.
"That night, she came to our house to meet Mason. Back then, everyone knew she had a crush on Mason. Even the blind could tell," she replied. I didn't want to ask this question but I couldn't help it.
"How about Mason? Were the feelings mutual back then?" I asked, holding my breath in anticipation.
"Honestly, I have no idea. Mason can be unreadable even to me at times. Back then, he acted like he liked her one minute but the next, he was back to being himself. They had both gone out to take a stroll before she left but she got hit by a car," she said. I gasped in shock. "An accident?"
She nodded. "A very bad accident that almost made her paralyzed. Her parents were furious with Mason and she never got to perform. I think he sort of blamed himself for the accident. Rachel left with her parents and we never saw her or spoke to her ever again till she showed up recently. The doctors had said she had a very low chance of ever walking again so we were surprised when we saw her."
I nodded in understanding. They both had such a deep past that I knew nothing of it. "So, it's not love then but pity. Mason feels guilty because of what happened to her."
"I don't know," she replied, grabbing her phone from the table.
"Your food has gotten cold. Should I get you another one?" I asked.
"No. I'm not hungry," she responded.
"Hi Mady, Lexi, you are also here," Rachel suddenly appeared with a smile. She pulled out a chair and sat with us. I glanced at Mady who continued typing furiously on her keyboard. This was going to be a bit awkward.
"What are you so focused on, Mady? You didn't even notice I was sitting here," she asked, smiling widely. She was always smiling. I don't think I've ever seen her frown except for when we had an argument.
"I don't know. Maybe I'm seated here concentrated on my phone because I'm stuck cleaning up someone's mess," she retorted. Mady sounded angry. I never knew she was so protective of her brother.
"I don't understand what's going on. Lexi, do you know what she's talking about?" she asked, turning towards me. I took a huge bite from my apple and chewed on it, ignoring her on purpose. Last I remembered, we were never friends. Why was she behaving like we were close? "Seriously? You don't understand what I'm talking about?" Mady asked, dropping her phone on the table.
"I don't. Why are you giving me an attitude? I only came here to talk to you," she replied with a frown.
"Take a look at what everyone is saying about Mason because of you. You claim that you love him but if you loved him, you would never have lied about something you knew he doesn't like. In reality, you are just another one of his desperate fans. I expected more from you. How disappointing," Mady declared. I stared at her in surprise. I never knew she could speak like this. Right now, she wasn't the sweet and innocent Mady that I knew.
"Excuse me!" Rachel exclaimed in shock.
"I will excuse you else I might say things we both might regret. Come on Lexi," she said, getting up from her chair. I got up too.
"How are you sure the brother you are trying hard to protect is telling the truth?" she asked. I grabbed my tray.
"Mason will never lie to me. I can detect whenever he's lying," Mady replied confidently.
"Really? Will someone who feels absolutely nothing for me, kiss me like that? I'm sure you saw how intense it was..," the clattering of utensils made her stop talking abruptly. I had dropped the tray without even realizing it.
"I'm fine," I said to Mady with a forced smile before she could ask anything. I bent down and started to pick them up. Mason kissed Rachel? When? Where? Was it after what happened between us last night? I grabbed the plates in anger, noisily placing them on the tray and letting them clang loudly.
"I witnessed the kiss and Mason told me what happened. You pulled all this stunt because of that? Anyway, that is between you both. I think you need to speak with him again to get things straight," Mady said to her. I stood up from the floor and we both left the cafeteria after I properly disposed of the tray.
She groaned. "Rachel can be so annoying at times."
"You can go ahead. I need to wash away this stain from my shirt," I said to her. In the process of dropping the tray, my shirt got stained.
"I didn't even notice because of my anger. Let's go to the bathroom. I will help you," she replied. I shook my head. If I didn't leave her presence right now, I was going to lose my cool.
"I can handle it. I will see you later," I responded and dashed out of there. I ran into one of the toilet stalls and locked it. I sat on one of the toilet seats and ran my hand through my hair repeatedly. The dull ache I felt in my head earlier intensified.
"I told you, didn't I? You will never replace anyone that will love you," I heard the same voice that has been plaguing my dreams. Why was I hearing this after replaceing out Mason kissed Rachel? The voice resonated like chiming bells that won't stop. "Are you okay?" I heard someone ask worriedly. I looked up in surprise. What was she doing in this school and the bathroom of all places?
