Owned By Her Triplet Bullies
(Bk 2) Chapter 78

Mason's

POV

"Are you still there sir?" he asked after I didn't respond for a while.

"Continue," I replied curtly. Everyone at the table glanced at me but they continued to converse and pass the plates around after a while probably thinking it was nothing serious. I had thought it wasn't serious as well but getting a call from a staff member was suspicious.

"Miss Rachel is drunk and she's on the rooftop threatening that she was going to jump if you didn't come soon," he explained hurriedly. I sat upright on my chair in surprise.

"Didn't you try to bring her down?" I inquired. Everyone stopped talking and focused their attention solely on me.

"We've tried everything but she wouldn't listen. You should come and resolve whatever arguments you have as a couple. It's not right to let things come to this..."

"We are not a couple," I declared cutting him off but he didn't seem to hear me.

"Miss Rachel, you should get down from there. The night is windy and something serious might happen to you," he warned.

"Hello? He..," the loud beep from the other end of the line cut me off.

"What is it? Did something happen?" Uncle Xander asked.

"Apparently, she's on the roof and won't come down," I explained.

"What! What if she falls from there? She already had multiple surgeries on her legs. She won't be able to withstand falling from such a great height," Torres said. Mady sighed. "Is she that upset?"

"Upset about what?" Aunt Judith asked curiously. I glanced at Lexi just as Torres and Lexi did.

"Oh," she muttered in realization.

"That's still a reckless thing to do. I was wondering why she wasn't here. I will inform someone about this. Don't worry, he will handle it," Uncle Xander assured us.

"No," Lexi declared. I looked at her in surprise. She turned towards me. "You should go," she continued with a straight face.

"Why him?" Torres asked.

"I'm sure she asked for you. I don't know her that well but I don't think anyone can make her move an inch except for you," she responded. She was right about that. Rachel was quite stubborn.

"Even though I know she won't do such a stupid thing, Lexi has a point. Anything can happen up there," Mady added. I also knew Rachel didn't plan on jumping. She just wanted to scare me and make me run to her.

"Yes, Mason dear. If you can make her get down, you should go. We can have dinner some other time," Aunt Judith assured me. I glanced at Lexi. Was she really okay with this? My eyes conveyed my thoughts as she nodded with a smile.

"Come with me," I remarked. If I was going to Rachel, it was only right my mate came along to avoid any misunderstanding. That way, Rachel would also understand we were together and finally stop all this drama. I stood up from my chair and she looked up at me in surprise but she stood up too. I took her hand in mine.

"We will leave first. See you later," I said.

"Thank you for dinner. I'm sorry I wasn't able to stay for long," Lexi said politely.

"It's okay dear. You are basically family now. It's a shame we weren't able to chat over dinner today. Come some other time," Aunt Judith said warmly.

"I definitely will," she replied with a smile.

"Mady will bring some food with her," she assured us. We all weren't too anxious about Rachel because everyone knew how she could be. We bid them goodbye and walked towards the car.

"Aren't you upset Rachel keeps calling me?" I asked getting into the car.

"I get upset sometimes but before I came into the picture, she was your friend. I don't want to ruin your friendship because we are together and besides I trust you completely," she replied fastening her seat belt. I looked at her in surprise. This was the first time she said out loud that she trusted me and it really meant a lot. It filled my heart with warmth.

"But, why do you like placing your hand on my thigh while driving? You also like holding my hand a lot, you've been doing it since we became official. Why?" she asked curiously. I glanced at my hand and it was indeed on her thigh. I had no idea I did that and often

too.

"I guess I'm a touchy person. Why? You don't like it?" I asked.

"No, I like it. It assures me that you are always here," she replied. I smiled.

"Your uncle and aunt are very nice. Your entire family is," she said.

"What about your real family? I heard they were looking for you," I said. I heard it from Nick while he was blabbering away.

"We are here. You should go to the rooftop. I will wait in your room," she said evading the question. I realized that but I didn't mention it. I parked the car and we got out.

"Aren't you coming?" I asked.

She shook her head. "I think that will only make things worse. You should go." I nodded and headed towards the rooftop. I met some of the staff pacing around. They heaved a sigh of relief when they saw me. I saw Rachel sitting at the edge with a bottle of alcohol by her side. "You can leave. Sorry for the trouble," I apologized politely.

"It's nothing, sir. We are only doing our job," one of them replied with a bow. I walked towards her just as they left.

"You are finally here. I thought you won't come," she said without turning around.

"What's this new drama, Rachel? Get down from there quickly," I chided firmly.

"How was your dinner? Did you enjoy it with your mate so much that you ignored my calls? What if I had really jumped?" she asked.

"We both know you won't do that," I replied. She stood up and turned around. She had make-up streaming down her face like she had cried a lot.

"You should have come when I called! I needed you but what did you do? You ran off with your little mate!" she yelled, throwing the bottle on the floor. It shattered loudly and its entire content spilled over.

"My mate is my first priority. This will be the last time I ever come to you if you keep being like this. The person you speak so spitefully about was the one who suggested that I come," I informed her.

She scoffed. "So you mean to say, if your goody two shoes of a mate didn't tell you to come, you wouldn't have?"

"What is wrong with you? You were never like this before. What changed?" I asked in disbelief. She looked like a completely different person.

"I didn't change. You did. Why can't you see that? You have no idea what I went through just to stand here in front of you and you treat me this way? How can you be so coldhearted?" she inquired about moving closer to me.

"We aren't the same people we were before Rachel. What else do you want from me? I can't give you what you want and even if I could, your mum hates my guts. Does she even know you are here?" I asked in a serious tone. It was no secret that her mum hated me. And it became worse after the accident.

"My mum doesn't matter. I don't care what she thinks. All you have to say is if you want to be with me then we can run away together..."

"Are you listening to yourself? I have a mate Rachel and you want me to run away with you?" I asked.

"You are going to choose a person you barely know over me? I've been with you since we were kids! I know you more than she does," she screamed.

"You don't. If you knew me, then you would know I would never abandon my mate for you. Get a grip over yourself and get inside. It's cold out here," I responded, turning around to leave.

"You know I will never be able to dance again because of you. That accident happened because I came to see you," she muttered, stopping me in my steps abruptly.

"You are blackmailing me emotionally now? You should ask yourself if you are really the person I used to know. I don't recognize you anymore," I said walking away from there. Rachel was one of the few people I really connected with as a kid and it was a pity it had to end this way. I doubt we could ever go back to how we used to be. I headed back to my room and a sweet fragrance hit my nose. It was sweet as well as relaxing.

"Lexi?" I called out. She opened the door and stepped out.

"You are back. I've been waiting for you," she said with a smile. My eyes widened when I took in the sight in front of me.

"For me?" I asked in surprise.
