Chapter 23
I walk to my office and there I replace Vaughn, I was hoping I don’t have to deal with this in the morning.
‘What was that about?’ She asks immediately I close the door
‘We all heard what she said.’
‘You know that is not what I am talking about.’
I rub my temples, this morning couldn’t get any worse.
‘VK I am talking to you.’
‘VK?’ I ask looking at her
‘What do you want me to call you after what I witnessed? Clearly Kasweka got the guts to disrespect you because she is the girl you are sleeping with.’
Silence
‘So it’s true? Do you even know that she is Nelson’s ex, that the only reason she could be doing his is because she wants to get back at him and you have foolishly allowed her into our lives and she is going to do everything to destroy us.’
‘I am having a terrible morning, please excuse me.’ I say ignoring everything else she has said
‘You disgust me VK and to think that you are my father, out there sleeping with a girl young enough to be your daughter!’
‘Vaughn Kaluba leave my presence now!’ I yell allowing anger to get the best of me
‘I never hit you as a child neither did I as an adult and I don’t want to start now.’
‘I will leave, but trust that this is not the end of everything. I will tell mum what you are doing, we will get the company from you and then I will destroy Kasweka.’
When the door closes behind her I sit in my chair holding my head, for my age I am too grown to be passing through such kind of problems. I don’t even have the energy to be fighting this.
When I can’t get my head straight, I walk out of the office. I will just go home and get some rest because at this rate my blood pressure might just go up.
The driver is already in the vehicle waiting when I get to where the car was parked, I tell him to drive me home but when we get there I almost regret it when I replace Kasweka waiting. I forgot just how draining it is to deal with youths.
‘I need to talk to you.’ She says
I walk towards the house almost dragging myself because I don’t feel too well.
‘Take a seat.’ I say once we are in the house
‘Are you okay?’
‘Yes I am.’
‘You don’t look too fine VK, what is the problem?’
I wipe the sweat from my forehead and look at her.
‘I am fine.’
‘And I am a virgin.’ She says sarcastically getting up
‘Where are you going?’
‘Just stay there.’
She comes back with a wet facecloth and some water, gets me out of my suit and then starts wiping my face with the face cloth.
‘What do you want?’
‘It’s not important right now.’ She says as she continues to wipe
‘I am not a child Kasweka, I am not.’ I argue as she helps me to my bedroom
We get there and she puts me in bed, removes her clothes and gets into one of my shirts before joining me.
‘You are super hot, if this temperature doesn’t come down we might have to call the doctor.’ She tells me
‘I am not a child and I will be fine, so stop worrying about me.’
She kisses my forehead and just lays there beside me, the both of us quiet.
‘All this came as a shock to me, I didn’t mean to behave the way I did earlier.’ She says
I smile, I know something is totally wrong with me but because I don’t want to get her worried I just smile.
‘Please get me some water.’
She leaves the room and returns with a glass of water, I am sweating from all pores and the place where I am sleeping is wet.
‘Give me your doctor’s number, you are not fine.’ She says and the worry on her face is what I was trying to avoid earlier
Everything else becomes a blur, from making phone calls to putting wet towels on my face. And then hushed voices that I can’t make out who is who, I want to get up and tell them to stop worrying but then i can’t even lift my body.
..
‘I am glad you called me, he hasn’t had his blood pressure checked the last couple of weeks Ka I told him to slow down on the traveling but he just won’t listen.’ The doctor says writing saying in her file
I don’t remember the last time I saw someone sick, the time mum was fighting for her life dad was there making everything seem okay and I didn’t have to do much.
‘You might need to call his family.’ She says
I swallow hard, I was avoiding that.
The doctor gives me some instructions on the medication to give him and when she leaves I decide to call aunty Ivy to bring me a change of clothes and then call Moudy, I have her line and I feel she is better off calling the rest of his family unlike me calling me.
I now wait for the drama to unfold because God knows this is about to get messy.
