Chapter 40

We followed him to the coast line. I knew where we were. I have been to the town once before. We had come to pick up building supplies from a close by lumber yard. But he had driven us to a quiet secluded cove that led out to the sea. On the water floating further out, it looked like a big boat , bobbing about on the water’s edge were two speed boats. We had to park the cars further up in what looked to be an abandoned barn. “They’ll be safe there until we come back from the island “, Rion had commented when we questioned what would happen with the cars or whose the barns were. Then on foot we walked the twenty-five minute trek down here.

” So where are these people from the council ? ” I asked him as we stood just looking around. ” Where fifteen minutes early , I made sure to schedule time for traffic or any other complications. So I guess we should rest here for a little. ” Anthea tapped my arm , looking down, she was smiling at me. “I’ve never seen the sea ” she gushed with excitement. ” Come on Anthea, let’s go walk in it ” Abigail bounced excitedly. Grabbing Antheas’ hand on the other side. She looked between me and Rion hopefully. ” Do we have time ? ” she asked and I nodded. No matter what he and his tight schedule had in place , this was a first for Anthea and seeing that smile filled me with a happiness I don’t think I had ever experienced.

Abigail giggled and started ripping her shoes off , throwing them down in the sand. Anthea copied her and they both ran off to the sea laughing like kids. ” So we get there by that boat then ? ” I asked him, keeping my eye on the girls. Peter had followed them down as well as Devon and Violet. Leaving me and him up here. ” Thats right ” he answers, shoving his hands into his pockets. ” Who operates it ? ” he lets out a laugh ” Me ” he answers.

” You know none of this s**t sits right with me , not just because your trying to steal my girl. But because I don’t f*****g know you. And now here we are about to be put to sleep and trust you to take us to god knows f*****g where. I just want you to know if it wasn’t for her wolf confirming this, I would have ripped your heart out and called you a f*****g liar. It all seemed a little coincidental to me. ” I looked him dead in the eye. It was my job to explore all the options. And me not being so trusting was also me being protective. He shrugs. Then he smirks at me ” I have given you no reason to question me. If you remember correctly, I didn’t want her to go after her magic. It would be dangerous. But watch me all you like, I just want to keep everyone safe the same as you “.

I don’t know something about it all, just didn’t sit right. I had a feeling something wasn’t right. But so far nothing had screamed at me to prove my feelings. Walking away from him, I took a seat on the sand and watched as she laughed and smiled at my sister , kicking water at each other. But what I found more consuming was when she walked away from the crowd of people having fun in the water , not by far, and angled her face up at the sun, closing her eyes. Like she was soaking it all in. She stood like that for a few minutes , before my sister shouted her name.

The way the sun had bounced off of her skin almost made her look angelic. I got lost in just watching them all, it was like we wasn’t about to head into the unknown. They found an opportunity to soak in a fun moment and make memories, yet here I was sitting overthinking and being the one on the outside looking in. Looking to the side of me, I saw Rion the same . Was this the fate of an alpha to be the one standing back all the time , keeping your eyes on everything and not actually living it? I think back to my dad. The only time I saw him let loose was on pack runs, and that was after a full day of making sure the pack would be secure for the night. The rest of the time he was always so serious. No wonder he couldn’t wait to hand over the rain and just enjoy his life now.

” Enzo ” I heard Rion say , not loudly, but with my hearing I picked it out easily. Looking back over at him, he was standing up looking towards two people walking towards us. ” Devon , Peter “, I linked to the guys. Their heads snap up straight away and look at me . ” Company is here ” I tell them and they both nod and start talking to the girls.

Standing up, I brush the sand from my clothes and study our guests, a male and a female. To anyone else, they would look like normal people , dressed in normal clothes. But even from here, I could pick up the scent of one of them. Not wolf , but some sort of shifter. Walking over, I studied them both. ” Thank you both for coming and helping us. Rykan, it’s been a long time Brother “, Rion greeted the male and shook his hand. Then he turned to the female. ” Willow , you look as young as the last time I saw you thirty years ago ” she laughs and holds her arms out to hug him. ” Rion, you were always such a charmer ” she laughs , but he was right. She looked no older than thirty at most. And he said he last saw her thirty years ago. ” How come they sent you Tiam normally comes out to these things ” he asked her.

She looked at me past him as I walked closer. ” She was busy on another job , now who is this hunky piece of wolf meat behind you. “

Rion turned his head and looked at me , rolling his eyes. ” That is Enzo , the future alpha of the wolf pack “, he introduced me. She looks me up and down and I see interest in her eyes. ” Nice to meet you , these are from my pack. Devon is my beta , Peter my sister’s future mate. My sister Abigail and my mate Anthea also Peters’ sister and I am guessing you already know Violet ” I introduce the others as they all came up behind me. ” Mate hmmm , shame although I see no mark ” The witch I am guessing remarks. I shook my head. ” Complicated , but still very committed ” I said, making a point.

” She is the female who has Sianna’s wolf spirit ” Rion tells them, and the witch’s eyes widen, ” Oh my, so that is the complication. Then I see , seen as Sianna, my very dear friend, was your mate ” I, snarled at the conclusion she had come up with. She looks at me and laughs then at Anthea. “Aren’t you a very lucky girl, with two hunky males as your mates, they will keep you very busy and thoroughly entertained, I have no doubt. Sianna and I were friends ” she smiles. Anthea scows at her ” She says you were not , you tried to steal her mate often. And you made her have facial hair once for your own enjoyment ” Willow laughed. And waved her hand ” A very long time ago , surly, we can get past that, especially since I have my own mate now. Tarrick a dragon shifter ” she waves her hand at the guy at the side of her.

” Mate ?” Rion asks. Willow nods ” Yes, bonded mates ” she confirms. ” And he lets you talk like that about other males ? “I ask , she laughs. ” He knew I was flirtatious before we bonded , but he also knows I have eyes for no other. Don’t you my fire breather ” she coos at him. He rolls his eyes at her ” She only does it more knowing it annoys me , she enjoys, the possessive s*x. I have been sent as a council representative for this. They have sent a message that this happens as long as we go with you to the island, we are all cleared to go and the council do not like that they have not all been vetted before they go to the island. Our instructions are to arrest anyone who appears to not be trustworthy. Let’s just say we are here to keep everyone honest about their intentions , and everyone’s mouths closed about who and where you all are “he looked across at me and I narrowed my eyes.

Willow breaks the tension. ” I am also here to help your cause , not just here as a spy ” she interjects. “So let’s do this, shall we? I can not wait to go back to the island , its been so long ” she m***s. Violet normal the quiet and observant one , the one that always looks so prim and proper, huffs catching all of our attention. “The last time you were there you upset a few members so this should be interesting, ” she spits and then turns walking to the speed boats.

Willow laughed again ” I see she hasn’t warmed much to me either. I am a different person now. It was not my fault ” she pleaded her case. But Rion laughs, ” Willow, you tried to break a mating bond between the two tiger mates because you fancied Yah ” she waves her hand dismissively. ” Young and stupid and almost kicked off of the council because of it. I learnt my lesson. Sianna sought that. Anyway, Yah was delicious “. She sets off across the sand. As she walks towards the boat, I grab Rions . ” Is she trustworthy , from what I just heard she is not? ” I snap at him. He nods “Willow is a little flirty but she is a strong and trusted witch of the councils. If she was not to be trusted she would not be here. She is harmless really, she just likes to ruffle feathers occasionally “. He removes his arm from my grip and walks off too. Everyone now looked less happy like they were playing in the water.
