Kayden and I arrived at the throne room where Elsie and a few others were already present.

“The call sounded so urgent, I hope everyone’s fine.” Kayden said lightly as we took our seats.

“Well, thankfully everyone is fine. I apologise for calling everyone on such short notice but it couldn’t be helped. I’ve decided to make a change of plans so I decided to inform you all as soon as possible. Kayden, you’ll be leaving for the Elven Meadows first thing tomorrow morning. You’re going to have to meet with the Elf King. The elves have been known to be very reserved and not very social as well but King Aldon has decided to join in the alliance since there’s much to benefit. I’ve always wanted all species to coexist together and I’m glad that my dream finally has a chance of coming true and it’s all thanks to Kayden and Evelyn and that’s why I think Kayden is the perfect candidate for the job.

I want you to meet with King Aldon and have a few discussions so we can know how to move forward, you’ll replace out if they need our help or what needs to be done to ensure that a good relationship is formed. You’re also the prince of this pack so you’re the only one I can send to go on this journey on my behalf since I already have a lot to deal with concerning the pack. I apologize if this is of short notice but you need to leave tomorrow because the Elven Meadows are far away from here so it’ll be a long journey and it’s also hidden by magic so you’ll meet someone at the entrance of the meadow who will guard you through.” Alpha Richard said and Kayden stood up.

“It’s no problem at all Alpha, I’m willing to lay down my life for the betterment of this pack so this is only but a small task and I look forward to it. You don’t need to apologize for anything, I will always fulfill my duties as the Prince.” Kayden spoke officially and I smiled. He’s really been working so hard and it’s admirable but I can’t help but feel sad.

I don’t know how long he’ll be gone for and I’ll really miss him.

“That’s good to hear.” Alpha Richard said and Kayden sat down. “Evelyn, I hope you don’t mind that I’m sending your mate away on a mission because you’ll also be going on one yourself.” Alpha Richard said, taking me completely by surprise.

“Really? What mission?” I couldn’t stop myself from asking.

“A pack is in dire need of our help right now, they were attacked by hunters while hunting a few days ago and a good number of wolves were killed so they need our support at the moment. You’re very smart and cordial, Evelyn and I completely have faith in your abilities. I believe you’ll be able to handle this situation properly so I’m sending you there as an envoy to replace out from the Alpha how we can be of help to them in this time of need.” Alpha Richard said and I really felt bad for the affected pack. It’s just so unfortunate, suddenly losing their loved ones.

“Of course Alpha, you don’t even have to ask. I’m always ready to help those in need, especially since such a terrible fate has befallen one of our sister packs. But if I may ask, which pack is it?” I questioned softly.

“The Crescent Moon Pack was affected and Alpha Zephyr has asked for my assistance.” Alpha Richard dropped the bombshell and in that instant, the world nearly collapsed around me.

Crescent Moon Pack? Zephyr? Is this a joke? Confusion instantly set into my mind and I found it difficult to gather my thoughts.

“I’m sorry Alpha but Evelyn can’t go to that Pack, please choose someone else.” Kayden objected, standing up on my behalf. He placed a reassuring hand on mine but I couldn’t wipe away the look of pure anxiety on my face.

“And why is that?” Alpha Richard questioned. Is it possible that he had forgotten about everything? That had to be it, I know that Richard wouldn’t send me there on purpose.

Kayden looked around and I quickly understood that he couldn’t start explaining my terrible past in front of the others.

“That is very well connected to her past of which I’m sure you know of.” Kayden said, giving Richard a knowing look and I saw a spark of realization cross Alpha Richard’s eyes.

“Yes, I seem to have forgotten about it and I apologize, so taking Evelyn’s feelings into consideration, I’ll send someone else to the Crescent Moon Pack to oversee the situation.” Alpha Richard said and I unknowingly released a sigh of relief.

“I’m sorry Alpha but I don’t support this decision of yours.” Connor, the Gamma spoke.

“What?!” Alpha Richard questioned, annoyed by the defiance. “I apologize Alpha, I mean no disrespect but I’m not happy with this decision. We’re all equally part of this pack and we have our duties to the pack and when carrying out our duties, we’re not supposed to let our emotions get in the way. Evelyn is the Beta female of this pack, she has a duty and it would be unfair to let her ditch her duty just because of her own sentiments.” Connor spoke, shocking all of us.

“Connor, how can you say that? Evelyn has been doing the best she can for the pack. If she can’t go on this mission, then I don’t see the reason why she should be forced.” Elsie spoke in my defense.

“I agree with Connor, Alpha Richard and Luna Elsie, and with all due respect, I think Evelyn should go on this mission.

From what has been said, it seems she has some kind of connection with the Crescent Moon Pack so it would only make more sense if she goes since she already knows about the pack and has been there before.

Secondly, I think she should go because we all know without reasonable doubt that she’s only a guest in this pack. She’s been staying in our Pack for a few years now so I think she should prove her loyalty to this pack by going on this mission.” Jules, the Beta said.

“Jules! How dare you speak to my sister in law in this way?” Alpha Richard raged. All of a sudden, it seemed like everything had all turned against me. Just when I thought things were finally going to be fine from here on out, the universe had gone ahead to prove me wrong, reminding me that I’m still that same girl who has to go through all sorts of pain and hardship.

Just when I thought I’d finally escaped my past and broken free, I was proven wrong once more with a blast from the past. I would have to return to the same Pack from which I had been treated like trash and banished from. I would have to return to the same man, who had wounded me so brutally, both physically, emotionally and psychologically. I would have to see him again and interact with him and I would have to put all my emotions aside and work with him. If I decided to take the easy route out of this by deciding not to go on this mission, it would cause ill feelings among the other members of the hierarchy and the last thing I wanted was bad b***d among them. I had never even known that the others had any issues with him, I guess they didn’t like that I was the only female aside from the Luna, who had been given a good amount of power in the pack but aside from being the Beta, I’m Kayden’s mate, so I’m also a princess of this pack but it doesn’t matter now. I don’t want to think about it too much, since they want me to prove my undying love for this pack without knowing what my connection to the Crescent Moon Pack is, I’ll do it.

The wolves of the Kizmet Pack took me in when I needed a home and a family and I guess it’s time for me to return the favor by doing this for them. It is my duty and duty comes first. I’ve never run away from anything in my life and I won’t run away from my past any longer, I’ll just have to face it and get over it. There should be no arguments or ill feelings about this.

I took a deep breath, the tears gathering at the edge of my eyes as I stood up.

“Everyone please listen to me.” I called and they all turned their attention to me.

I cleared my throat and continued.

“Alpha, I’m ready to go to the Crescent Moon Pack as an envoy and I’ll leave first thing tomorrow morning. I’ll always perform my duties as this Pack’s Beta female and princess and there will be no exceptions.” I said softly and as the words left my mouth, so did the tears leave my eyes.
