Ana laughed some more.

“You don’t have to be so shocked, it’s true. You could call it a classical case of Cinderella but in wolf style where the poor girl turns out to be mated to the Alpha. My dear Elsie really couldn’t believe it at first and she was worried because she thought the Alpha would reject her.

She was just a poor girl after all and certainly no match for all the girls she had seen flocking around the Alpha but Alpha Richard surprised everyone when he accepted her as his mate.

He accepted her and told her he would love to get to know her better because she was surely his fated mate and the goddess makes no mistake when she mates her children. They got married about a year ago and my daughter now lives in the palace.” Ana said and I really couldn’t help sighing.

It’s funny how in life, some people get to be so lucky while others just have a truckload of bad luck. Elsie is surely living her fairy tale life with her mate. She is now Luna and she has a mate who loves her, classic Cinderella tale but here I am, trying my best to survive and running away from my own mate who turned out to be no less than a beast.

From Ana’s example, my story would be titled beauty and the beast but just not the happy kind. I’m talking about the one where beauty not only escapes the beast, but learns and grows to one day slay that beast.

I wrote down the next question that popped up in my mind. “If you’re the Luna’s mother then why are you still living out here alone, in a cottage?” She read the question and smiled.

“The truth remains that no matter how destiny becomes kind or cruel to us, we are who we are. I’m used to living in this small cottage, not too far from the border. I’ve lived here for most of my life so I replace it hard to just pack my things and move to the palace.

Besides, that Palace doesn’t really hold wonderful memories for me.” Ana said, her tone becoming lower.

I couldn’t resist wanting to know more, you might have already figured out by now that I’m a very inquisitive person so I asked her what she meant by what she had said.

“If you remember the story of Cinderella very correctly then you’ll also remember that she had to go through many trials and tribulations before luck finally shined on her.

So also, my daughter and I have been through a lot. My husband was accused of a terrible crime that he was completely innocent of and he was sentenced to death because of it. I had only been married for two years then and Elsie was one, we would have been banished from the pack as the family of a traitor but the Alpha took pity on us and only evicted us from the pack house.

We were forced to move to this part of the territory, it is very close to the border so it’s a dangerous place but they didn’t care, all they wanted was to keep us as far away from everyone else as possible.

We were completely ostracized from the rest of the pack and we suffered a lot. I had to do everything for myself and for my daughter, even become no less than a farmer so we wouldn’t starve. I took care of Elsie without a single support from anyone.

Fifteen years passed by and only then was the truth revealed, the real culprit was caught and punished and everyone found out that my husband had been innocent all along.

The Alpha personally came to this cottage and apologized to me profusely, asking for my forgiveness for not only murdering my innocent husband but for also putting my daughter and I through so much suffering for so many years.

I had never been a bad person or one to hold grudges so I forgave them but I could never forget and that’s why I refused the Alpha’s offer for me to return to the pack house with my daughter.

He promised to grant me a high position in the hierarchy and make sure I and my daughter will be respected and treated well but I refused because going back to the pack house or accepting any favours from the man who had sentenced my mate to death would have been a disrespect to his memory.

We were also granted permission to interact with everyone in the pack and though I didn’t see the use anymore because I had already gotten used to being alone, Elsie gladly took the opportunity and quickly began making friends but I couldn’t stop her because she had been deprived of that luxury for too long.

I had promised myself that I would never have anything to do with the pack house and most especially the palace but little did I know that fate had bigger plans for my daughter.

About two years later, during the spring festival which coincidentally took place on her 18th birthday, Elsie saw the new Alpha for the first time and she also found out that he was her mate.

She saw the girls that surrounded him and she got discouraged, she also remembered that I wasn’t in support of anything that had to do with the Alpha or the palace and she was ready to give up on her mate but Richard didn’t want to give up on her so he didn’t reject her.

When she told me, I had no choice but to be happy for her, I would never let a little angst come between my daughter and her happiness so I gave my blessing and they got married quickly.

She’s requested me to move into the palace many times but I just can’t bring myself to, it just wouldn’t feel right to live there.

I do go to visit her regularly because I feel very lonely now that she’s gone, but I won’t feel lonely anymore now that you’ve arrived. She really is a sweet girl and she’s been a very kind Luna to her people.

I’ll take you to see her tomorrow if you get better quickly.” She said and I nodded with a smile.

I had been quick to think Elsie’s life had been all rosy but I was wrong, she had once been in a similar situation as me but now she’s also gotten her happy ending and this gave me hope that my life would also become better.

At least I’m out of that hellish place now and that is a good sign. For now, it’s better to concentrate on the present and I honestly can’t wait to see the palace and meet Elsie, Ana’s daughter.

This pack seems to be a lot bigger than my former pack. In the Crescent Moon pack, everyone, including the Alpha and his family live in the Pack house but seemingly in this Pack, the Alpha lives in the palace with his family while the rest members of the pack live in the pack house which is also on the palace grounds.

Ana seems to be the only one who lives outside the pack house.

I wrote down the fact that I was really looking forward to seeing her daughter. She read it and smiled.

“I’m glad you are. But for now, let’s get you ready and in shape. Can you walk on your own or do you need me to help you to the bathroom?” Ana asked and I shook my head.

I took a deep breath and managed to stand up straight, she directed me to the bathroom and went in. I took my bath quickly because the weather was still chilly from last night’s storm.

I stepped out in a towel and saw some clothes and a note on the bed.

The note read that she had gone to get some food items so she could prepare some food for us. She also mentioned that she would be back soon.

I dropped the note with a smile and yawned before stretching a bit and getting into my clothes.

I sat on the bed and quickly got bored, I was already used to doing work and always being busy so idleness was a new thing for me and I really didn’t like it so I grabbed a broom and tidied up the house swiftly, it would be my way of saying thank you to her for taking me in.
