I gasped as my eyes fell on the huge building that stood in front of me, it looked glorious and I wondered how magnificent the inside would look like.

Ana noticed my amazement and she chuckled softly. “It’s huge, I know but it won’t feel so amazing once you come here a second time.” She said and gave me her hand.

I took it and followed her as she walked towards the entrance of the palace. There were several guards stationed there and they bowed once they noticed her approaching.

“There’s really no need for that. How are all of you faring today?” She questioned with a smile.

“Very well, queen mother. It’s so nice of you to care for our well being.” They replied curtly and I almost couldn’t believe my ears. So everything Ana had told me was true, she really is the Luna’s mother. She must be a very humble person indeed and I instantly feel honoured to be friends with her. After the exchange of pleasantries, they finally seemed to notice me and for some reason I couldn’t explain, they kept staring at me strangely and this made me feel very uncomfortable.

Ana nodded and we both went in. The interior of the palace was more than I had imagined and I couldn’t say how impressed I felt. This pack seems to be much wealthier than my former one if the Alpha can afford such a luxurious place.

We passed by various maids and attendants who greeted Ana just like the guards had. She stopped one of them. “Emily, where’s Elsie?” Ana questioned. “Her Highness is in her chambers, queen mother.” The maid called Emily replied and I noticed that she kept her eyes on me and because I wasn’t used to being stared at, I just looked to the ground awkwardly.

“Very well, thank you.” Ana said and the girl wanted to protest but Ana spoke before she could.

“We’ve talked about this Emily, I’ll say thank you when I should and you’ll just have to accept it, no exceptions.” Ana said and Emily nodded and bowed lowly. She took a good look at me one more time before finally leaving and I had to start taking a look at myself.

I began wondering if I had worn something wrong or if there was something on my face but if that was the case, I’m sure Ana would have told me.

I’m starting to regret not bringing my notebook. I really want to ask Ana what the heck is going on and why they were staring at me like that but I can’t because there’s no way for me to communicate with her.

“Come on, let’s go see Elsie.” Ana said, the joy apparent in her voice. We walked through the large halls and stopped when we arrived at a bedroom door.

Ana knocked on the door gently.

“Who is it?” A soft voice came from behind the door. “Guess who it is.” Ana said and the door instantly opened and a girl with red hair grabbed Ana in a big hug.

When they separated, I was finally able to get a good look at the girl. She was dressed so beautifully in a long lace white dress that had amazing designs all over it. She had frizzy, long red hair that fell on the length of her back and for some weird reason, she seemed to look exactly like me, except for her hair and her eyes which were blue while mine were green. It was then that I finally understood why the guards and maids we had passed by previously had been staring at me. It wasn’t because of how I was dressed, it was because I had an undeniable resemblance to their Luna, we could probably pass as twins and it felt strange.

She turned to me and gasped. “Mother, where on Earth did you replace this beautiful piece of sunshine? We look alike so much.” Elsie questioned.

“It’s a long story and I’m going to have to sit down so I can tell you all about it.” Ana said and Elsie apologized.

“I’m so sorry mum, where are my manners? Please come in and sit down, make yourself at home because this is your home.” Elsie invited her mother and Ana went into the huge and beautifully decorated bedroom while I just decided to stand at the doorway.

“What are you doing standing there? Please come in and have a seat.” Elsie beckoned and I went in reluctantly all the while keeping my head down, I had been treated badly for such a long time that being treated nicely felt surreal.

I went to sit beside Ana. “I apologize once again mom, I forgot to properly invite you in because I was a bit taken aback to see her.” Elsie apologized once more.

“What’s your name, dear?” Elsie turned to me and asked and I simply signed to her that I couldn’t speak.

“Oh, I’m really sorry about that.” She apologized and I really wanted to tell her that it wasn’t her fault, she wasn’t responsible and I had come to accept myself the way I am.

“I don’t see the Alpha anywhere, is he in a meeting, perhaps?” Ana questioned.

“Yes, he is. I’m sure he’ll come by as soon as he’s done.” Elsie said and Ana nodded.

“I can’t help it but I’m just really curious about her. I’ve never seen her in our pack before, how did you meet her?” Elsie questioned and Ana went ahead to tell Elsie everything she knew about me, not leaving out one detail.

“I honestly can’t believe that there are people who can be so cruel to a woman. Couldn’t they have at least done a little bit more to ascertain if she was guilty or not before meting out such a terrible punishment? Besides, she is a woman and so she should not have been made to undergo something so terrible.” Elsie said, practically fuming.

“I completely agree with you dear, this just goes to show that there will never be a shortage of bad people in this world. We just need to be careful and do our best in life. Her situation was very unfortunate but there’s nothing we can do about it except keep my safe and try to make her forget about her dreadful past.” Ana encouraged and Elsie grabbed me in a hug.

“I promise you this Evelyn, I’ll take you like the sister I always wished to have. I’ll make sure that you never have to suffer something so terrible ever again.” Elsie promised and for the first time ever, I found myself shedding tears of joy

It felt so good to be finally cared for and wanted. My mother and sister had abandoned me without a second thought but the goddess had provided me with a better replacement for them.

Now I had not just a mother, but also a sister as well.

Just then, I saw a man walk in and Elsie withdrew from the hug.

She went to hug the man warmly and I understood that it had to be Alpha Richard, her husband. He was a tall man and Elsie barely reached his chest. He had a well chiseled face with hazel brown eyes that could captivate just by staring at them. His pink lips stretched out in a grin as his strong arms wrapped around Elsie protectively.

I could see that his body was well built even through his shirt and I had to admit that he looked so good with Elsie. They were the quintessence of a lovely couple and I couldn’t help but feel a little jealous about it.

Elsie had gone through her own ups and downs but she still got her happy ending but here I am, trying to keep a grasp on my sanity, a lonely and scarred young woman with no future in sight, at least not a happy one since I’m now practically mateless.

“I really can’t believe this Evelyn, Ana has already helped you so much and her daughter has also accepted you so easily but here you are, crushing on her son in-law. Shame on you.” Tara said, seemingly trying to cheer me up in her own way but it wasn’t gonna work. Not this time.

‘You can stop trying Tara because it won’t work, you know so well how deeply hurt I still feel so why would you even make up a joke like that?’ I questioned and she winced apologetically.

“I’m sorry Evelyn, I really didn’t mean to offend you. I was just trying to get your mind off of the terrible thoughts. I thought a little sarcastic remark would do instead of the normal words of encouragement. I really didn’t know it would offend you, I’m sorry.” She apologized and I had no choice but to forgive her mainly because I love her and it’s definitely impossible to hold a grudge against your own wolf.

“Hello, mother. It’s so nice to have you for a visit though we’d appreciate it more if you stayed” Alpha Richard greeted Ana warmly. “Thank you, my dear son but you know I can’t stay, I solely trust you to care for my daughter and I know that you won’t disappoint me.” Ana returned and Alpha Richard finally turned to my direction.

His expression first seemed to be of shock but he quickly tried to fix it and hold a straight face.

“And what exactly is going on here? Who’s she and why exactly does she look like my wife? I didn’t know you had twins, why did I never replace out about her?” Alpha Richard questioned all at once.
