Rejected By My Mate, Chosen By Fate -
Chapter 67
“What do you mean that’s not possible?” I questioned, my anger rising.
“Your task has already started and I can’t take you back until you complete it. So it’s safe to say that you’re trapped here until you finish your task successfully.” Voithós said and I felt a jolt in my heart.
What?! What did he just say?
“What do you mean we’re trapped here until the task is completed?” Kayden stepped in, seeing how disoriented I was.
“I asked you if you would accept the task and you willingly agreed, didn’t you? This is the task and once you’ve agreed to it and it’s started, there’s no going back until you complete it.” Voithós explained.
“You tricked me.” I raged, almost jumping on him but Kayden managed to hold me back on time.
“Patience now little wolf, this is all for your own good. I never tricked you, I just didn’t give you the details but you still willingly agreed to it and now, you’ll be bound by your word. You must finish the task or you’ll be trapped here forever.” Voithós said and his words hit me like a raging bullet and I instantly saw my whole world come crashing down before me.
Trapped? Kayden and I are going to be trapped here forever, if we don’t finish this task? A task which includes vampires? What if I can’t finish it or what if I fail? No, this can’t happen. What about Elsie and the others? What about my daughter?
“No, we never agreed to this. Take us back now or you’ll regret it.” Kayden threatened but Voithós only laughed.
“It would do you no good to threaten the goddess’s messenger. I expected you to take this a lot more lightly but your reactions are still very much predictable. If only you’d look at the bright side, you’d understand the huge opportunity that has been given to you and appreciate it. You ought to start replaceing out all the information you need to know now because you’ll become visible in a few minutes and I won’t be able to help you anymore till you finish your task, you’ll be all on your own and seeing that this is vampires you’re going to deal with, one little mistake could have you dead.” Voithós said and his words only served to scare me the more.
“You really aren’t helping.” Kayden said skeptically. “I’m only telling the truth of what awaits you so you have to be careful and be very cautious.” Voithós spoke like a mother that was sending her child off on the first day of school.
“But what if I don’t succeed in my task? What if I fail? What then?” I questioned, wanting to weigh the odds. Tears had already gathered at the edge of my eyes, knowing that his answer wasn’t going to make me feel better in the slightest.
“There really should be no room for failure on your part, try your best to succeed in this task because there is a lot at stake here. Now are you ready to understand your situation or would you rather go on with the task blindly?” He questioned sweetly and I sighed.
“Fine, just tell me what I have to do.” I requested. “Good.” He said with a smug smile before continuing.
“You’re in the Kingdom of Luceras as you well know, the land of the Vampires. Your task is simple, you have to unite King Cassius and his mate.” Voithós said and my eyes widened.
“You really brought me here to play matchmaker? Are you serious?” I questioned.
“It’s not as easy as you think. King Cassius Von Drago is as cold hearted as a rock, he only cares about ruling the kingdom and ensuring peace and a general absence of rebellion, he can be brutal sometimes but overall, he has a good heart. He has a soft spot which he hides very cleverly. He’s been through a lot in the past and those events have helped to shape him into who he is today, you simply have to melt his icy heart and make him realize that there’s more to his dark and gloomy world.
His mate, Lucia Fitzherbert is a human girl who is sadly, a vampire hunter and she despises Vampires because they assassinated her whole family when she was little and kept her as a slave for ten years until she escaped and joined a group of other Vampire hunters. She has sworn to avenge her family by killing the one responsible for their deaths so all she wants is King Cassius’s head but Lilith, the mother of Vampires has chosen them to be mates because though they might be as opposite as fire and ice, together they’ll make Luceras great and increase the power of the Vampire race.” Voithós explained and it only managed to complicate things.
“And what do I have to do with any of this? Why should it concern me? I’m not a vampire, I’m a Werewolf and I don’t serve Lilith so what does any of this have to do with me?” I questioned, completely clueless how and why I’d managed to end up in such a sticky situation.
“Oh it has everything to do with you and Kayden. Lilith and Selene are both goddesses, they’re sisters, if you never knew and Lilith has asked Selene for a favour, she wants to unite the Kingdom and stamp out opposition and so Selene has in turn given you this task since you refused to make a wish but still desire a miracle from her.” Voithós said and I truly began to regret having anything to do with that book in the first place.
Lesson to be noted, stay away from strange looking books. Not all books are meant to be opened and I realize that now.
“So I’m supposed to unite two people and make them fall in love with each other when they hate each other’s guts?” I questioned, just to be clear about the task.
“Precisely.” He concurred.
“How in the world am I supposed to do that?” I hollered.
“That’s what you have to figure out. From here on out, you’re all on your own until you finish this task. The only thing I can help you out with before I leave is information. The both of you are humans in this world, you don’t have wolves so you’re ordinary for now. The humans in this Kingdom are treated like cattle so you’ll have to be very careful. The Vampires will sense that you are human so they’ll capture you and they’ll feed on your b***d so try your best to stay alive. I don’t have the power to revive you if you die. In order to make your task easier, faster and more effective, I suggest you both split up. In order to get two people to like each other, they need to communicate first. Evelyn, your job would be easier if you could replace a way to win King Cassius’s favour and Kayden could help you by searching for and seeking out Lucia. Also, don’t think at all when in the presence of the king, give your answers randomly, without thinking and don’t let your thoughts roam free or he’ll read you like an open book and kill you. Also, if you are trying to escape a vampire, don’t run too far, they have superspeed so they’ll catch you easily.
Look for a place to hide and don’t move or breathe until they leave. That’s all the help I can give you.” Voithós said
“Thanks for the heads up.” I said sarcastically as I rolled my eyes but in truth, I’m actually grateful for this information. I guess it’ll really help to make things faster so we can get out of here as soon as possible. The Vampires seem so awesome, they have all that power at their disposal and the only thing us, werewolves can do, is shift and hunt and that’s probably it. There’s also that stupid mate bond which often times leads to unhappiness after replaceing out that you and your mate aren’t even compatible. Selene, why do you have to be so stingy with the powers?
I take a deep sigh, relaxing my frayed nerves “Could things seriously get any worse?” The words just suddenly slipped out of my mouth.
“Well, they’re about to.” Voithós quickly replied and suddenly disappeared.
We could barely make sense of the situation when we suddenly heard a sharp and loud voice.
“Hey you! What are the both of you still doing out here when it’s past curfew?” We heard someone scream at us from behind us.
Kayden and I exchanged glances and I gulped before turning around slowly to the direction of the voice and there they stood majestically.
Of course, vampires.
