Rejected By My Mate, Chosen By Fate -
Chapter 94
The shock of the whole thing instantly soured my mood so much that it seemed to affect my health. I instantly started feeling cold and my heart was beating non stop.
The thought of the fact that I won’t be able to carry out my plan today after coming so close is more painful than I can describe but what hurts me the most is the thought of what’s going to happen between me and Prince Virgil after this party is over. I’m practically shivering at the thought and I just want to go somewhere and cry my eyes out. Everything is ruined, everything.
I hug my arms and just turn towards the hallway but someone grabs a hold of my hand stopping me. I don’t need to turn back to know that it’s Prince Virgil.
“I’m sorry Master but I have to go, I don’t feel well at all. I feel cold and my body hurts.” I complained, biting on my lower l*p in order to stop myself from crying.
“Is it really your body that hurts? Or is it your heart that actually aches?” The moment I heard the voice, I turned back sharply to see that Kayden was the one who had stopped me.
The tears that had gathered in my eyes finally fall but they’re not tears of sadness or pain, but rather tears of joy as a huge smile appears on my face.
I impulsively stretched out my hands to hug him but thankfully, my brain alerted me of the danger all around just at the right time so I instantly changed position and pretended like I was stretching.
From the corner of my eyes, I could see Prince Virgil’s sharp gaze on me, Kayden had only been able to approach me because Prince Virgil had been deep in discussion with someone.
He’s still talking with this probably important guest but his whole attention is fixated on me, watching my every move like a hawk. I can’t afford to make any foolish mistakes. I must keep my emotions in check.
I instantly withdraw my hand from Kayden’s grasp quickly. “Don’t touch me. I belong to someone else.” I forced the words out of my mouth with a fake frown, hoping that Kayden would understand why I have to act like this.
Thankfully, he understands the situation perfectly, just like he always does and so he played along.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to touch you. I have no interest in you whatsoever, I already have a mate. I just saw that you seemed like you were in trouble so I grew concerned and wanted to know if you were alright.” He said confidently and I knew then that his acting skills were also on point.
“Thank you for your concern but I don’t need it, I’m absolutely fine, thank you very much.” I said with a smile that wasn’t completely fake.
Just then, a woman walked up to I and Kayden. “Here, you are my dear mate, I was looking for you because I missed you.” Kayden said to the lady but his words were directed at me and it made me smile in delight. The woman gives Kayden a small smile and I certainly need no soothsayer to know that the woman standing in front of me is none other than Lucia Fitzherbert, King Cassius’s true mate.
She’s very beautiful I must admit, she has a warm smile but her intense gaze and the way she carries herself shows that she’s not someone you would want to mess with. Her fierce green eyes showcase the fire that is burning within her and I instantly admire her. King Cassius is indeed lucky to be fated to a woman like this.
“I was also looking for you.” She replied with a big smile. I can see Prince Virgil still staring at me but I know what I have to do. I have to tell Kayden to get a piece of Lucia’s hair now because after we seperate, I doubt that Prince Virgil will let me out of his sight again so I fake a fall and Kayden quickly catches me, his eyes stare deeply into mine and I just want to rest in his embrace but I can’t afford grinning like a fool in our current situation so I shake my head and whisper to him. “Get a few strands of Lucia’s hair and meet me in the hallway soon, make sure no one follows you.”
He doesn’t ask any questions and just lifts me up while I thank him and quickly walk away, making sure not to look back. I walked towards the buffet table and took a sneak peek at Prince Virgil and I saw that he looked a little pleased but I know that the danger is not yet averted.
This Vampire certainly won’t know what hit him.
The official waltz soon starts and as expected, Prince Virgil takes me on the dance floor and we waltz gracefully.
“I don’t think I need to remind you to stay away from other men.” He whispered to me.
“I’m sorry about earlier, but we didn’t even talk, he just saved me from falling, that’s all.” I said and he bit on my neck softly and I gasped.
“Do not dare mistake me for the easy or jealous type, I’m not jealous, I’m possessive. Jealousy is when you desire something that isn’t yours but possessiveness is protecting that which already belongs to you and you my dear kitten, belong to me. I would much appreciate it if you realized your worth.” He whispered and his words caused a shiver to run down my spine.
The waltz stopped and I told Prince Virgil that I would like to get a glass of juice but he didn’t let me, he instead gave me one.
While I was sipping my juice, I saw Kayden sneaking out of the great Hall and I looked around to see if anyone else had noticed him but when I saw that everyone else was busy with one thing or the other, my concerns were put to rest.
It seems that Kayden has accomplished the task which I gave to him so all that’s left now is for me to replace a way to get away from this obsessive Vampire.
“Master, um, I would like to use the bathroom please.” I requested. “Let’s go.” He said and I glared at him.
“Isn’t this a bit too much? It’s not like someone’s going to steal me away or something. You’ve been with me the whole day and I understand that you’re only protecting me and you don’t want me to be harassed by other men but this is getting out of hand. I’m only going to the bathroom for a few minutes, it’s not like I’m going to leave you forever.” I blurted out, annoyed.
“I’m sorry.” He apologized for the first time ever and it honestly blew the wind out of my sail.
“It’s just that you’re the first woman I’ve ever felt attached to, you just have a certain magnetism that keeps pulling me in and I’m powerless to your innocent charm. I don’t know why but I feel low tonight, I have this dreary feeling of emptiness that I can’t seem to dispel, I almost feel like I’m about to lose something so that’s why I’m probably overreacting. I’m sorry Evelyn, you can go to the bathroom. Just please don’t waste too much time, I’ll only be at peace when you’re in front of me again.” He spoke so sincerely and sweetly, there was clearly no pretense and I quickly began to wonder if this is the same Virgil Von Drago that I know. He’s changed a lot since I arrived. He’s a lot nicer now and he’s even apologizing. He’s becoming a gentleman. It’s almost too much to take in but at the same time, it really warms my heart.
“I guess you’ve been more of a good influence.” He said as he rubbed the back of his neck and I blushed furiously. This dude just read my mind again, I’ll run along now before I think something embarrassing again. I can hear him chuckle as I walk away.
When I’m out of the Grand Hall, I reminisce over Prince Virgil’s words and I almost feel guilty. That feeling of emptiness within him might not disappear anytime soon because I am truly going to leave him, I already belong to someone else. I wish I could replace a way to make things right without breaking his heart. He’ll surely hate me when he replaces out that I left him but there’s no other way.
When things are settled out completely and werewolves and vampires can officially coexist together, I’ll apologize to him for playing with his feelings and we can hopefully be friends. I’ll try my best to replace the right girl for him, I at least owe him that much. He’s mostly the reason why my mission is finally about to come to an end and he’s certainly the reason why I’m still alive.
I sigh as I walk through the castle corridor in search of Kayden.
