Return Of The Prodigy -
Return of the Prodigy Chapter 150
Seeing that the atmosphere was getting more and more tense, their classmates hurried to mediate.
"Okay, let's calm down."
"Yeah! Speaking of which, have you heard that Rivers Bank and Redfield Bank are in trouble because their clients decided to withdraw their money all at once?" Now that piqued everyone's interest and the topic shifted.
"Yeah, I've heard about that. It was even on the news, so it must be a big deal."
"I've heard that Rivers Bank pissed off someone, and this was this person's way of taking revenge."
"For real? Who has the power to take on a whole bank?"
"I don't think even a powerful family or Lisle's Chamber of Commerce could do something like that."
"Sofia, you were in Lisle for the past two days. Do you have any inside information?"
All the classmates turned to look at Sofia.
Sofia raised her chin and said proudly, "Heh, you asked the right person. I know everything about this matter."
"Do you?"
"Then tell us what happened."
"Yeah, did Rivers Bank offend someone? Who was it?"
They all looked at Sofia with glimmering eyes, waiting for her to reply.
Sofia smiled, satisfied. "You're right, Rivers Bank did offend someone. Moreover, it's someone you're all acquainted with."
Her classmates were dumbfounded. "That's impossible. I don't remember anyone so incredible in our class."
Suddenly, someone giggled.
Ivy looked at Sofia with a mocking smile. "Do you want to tell us that it was Katie?"
All the people sitting at the table were stunned.
Sofia snorted, "Yes, the person Rivers Bank offended was Katie, and her husband dealt with the bank.
"It's a pity that you didn't get to see the scene. Rivers Bank's manager came over and begged Katie to take a loan from his bank. He even knelt on the ground and-"
"Hahaha!" Ivy laughed so hard that tears welled up in her eyes. "Sorry, but I couldn't hold back. I can't believe that you're going this far to put Katie in a good light. What will you tell us next, that Redfield Bank was also taken down by Katie?" Sofia stood up and snarled, "What are you laughing at? Everything I said is the truth."
Ivy nodded while wiping her tears away. "Sure, sure. I certainly believe you! Haha..."
Sofia's face flushed with anger. "You-"
Right then, one of her classmates interrupted her, "Sofia, I think you're exaggerating this time. I can believe that Katie managed to turn her life around, but it's hard to believe that she put Rivers Bank in a tight spot."
"Katie might be your best friend, but there's no need to make her look better than she is. We've known each other for a long time, so it's pointless to brag among ourselves."
None of them believed Sofia.
"You guys... Hmph, fine. When Katie arrives, I'll tell her to prove it to you! I want to see if you can still laugh then!"
Furious, Sofia grabbed her phone and called Katie, urging her, "Are you finished with your work? If you delay any further, I might die of anger!"
At this moment, a bespectacled man pushed the door open and entered the room.
The man was tall and well-built. He donned a dark-blue suit but not a tie; the two topmost buttons of his shirt were unbuttoned, which made him look unruly and classy at the same time. A Vacheron Constantin graced his left wrist, and he held a briefcase in his right hand. He attracted everyone's attention as he entered the room.
"Sorry for being late, but there were a few things I had to take care of," the man smiled and said sincerely.
This person was Ted Kroos, and all the female students adored him back when they were in college. When Sofia suggested that Katie should divorce Adam, the man she wanted to introduce to her was none of other than Ted.
In college, Ted was also among Katie's pursuers, which enraged Ivy as she had a crush on him. That was also why she hated Katie and always tried to oppose her.
"Ted, you're here! Was there traffic on the road?" Ivy stood up and greeted him.
Sofia pouted and rolled her eyes, her dissatisfaction palpable.
"Ivy, you've become even more beautiful since the last time I saw you. Guys, have you been well this past year?" When he spoke, Ted became the focus of the entire room.
All of his classmates got up and greeted him.
Ivy then patted the seat beside her and said, "Ted, you can sit here. I reserved this seat for you."
Ted smiled but did not move from where he was standing. "Where is Katie? I thought she was also coming this time."
Ivy interjected before Sofia could reply, "Hehe, the belle of our class is too busy dealing with Rivers Bank."
Her classmates laughed at her remarks.
Ted was stunned and asked in surprise, "Wait, how is that matter related to Katie?"
Ivy said enigmatically, "Why wouldn't it be? Don't you know that the belle of our class is very talented? She's now the chairman of her family's company. Moreover, her husband is very rich and powerful. She's truly a lucky woman!" Ted frowned. "I heard that her husband was a good-for-nothing, that's why he's forced to be the live-in son-in-law of the Hartleys..."
Ivy pouted and glanced at Sofia. "Well, that's what Katie's best friend said."
Ted turned to look at Sofia.
Sofia snorted and said, "Everything I said is true. Ted, I know you're an outstanding man, but you're no match for Katie's husband."
Ted was stunned a second time in a row. He forced a smile and then shook his head.
Despite being in his twenties, he was already a force in the finance sector, with his annual salary being over one million dollars. He found it hard to believe that Katie's husband was better than him. Among his peers, he was the one with the best prospects. He concluded that Sofia was just trying to help her bestie. However, he did not continue with the discussion and just let the matter be.
At this moment, Katie also arrived.
Ivy said with a smile, "Oh, the belle of our class is here. Did you come here last because you wanted to appear busy? Or were you afraid that your lies would be exposed, putting an end to this farce?"
"Ivy, shut up!" Sofia stood up and hissed. "Katie, tell them how things stand. They refuse to believe that you're the chairman of Hartley Group. Or that you were the person that Rivers Bank offended, getting into trouble for it. Hurry up and tell them, I've had enough of their attitude!" She was so impatient that she almost screamed.
All the people in the room turned to look at Katie in unison.
As for Katie, she was stunned, and she looked at her bestie helplessly. She did not like being the center of attention nor want to talk about this matter since it was something that had nothing to do with their class reunion. Unfortunately, Sofia could not keep her mouth shut and had to spill the beans.
"Heh, why aren't you answering? Are you too embarrassed?" taunted Ivy.
Left with no choice, Katie replied, "What Sofia said is the truth."
Sofia felt vindicated. "See? I told you that everything I said was the truth! Ivy, are you happy now?"
Ivy said with a sneer, "That's it? Do you think I'll accept this kind of explanation with no proof whatsoever? If that's the case, I might as well say that I'm the richest woman in the world! I won't believe a single word of what you said unless you bring some proof to back it up."
None of their classmates spoke, but it was evident from their expressions that they thought no different.
