Return Of The Prodigy -
Return of the Prodigy Chapter 151
Sofia was like a cat that had its tail stepped on. "Ivy, just because you're ignorant doesn't mean that it's not the truth! It's funny how you keep begging for proof. If that's what you want, you'll have it! I'll destroy your little machinations so that you can stop comparing yourself to Katie at every turn! "Katie, where is Adam?"
"I told him not to come since it was our class reunion," Katie said helplessly.
"Is that the case? Or perhaps you told him not to come because your lies would be exposed if he were here as everyone would see for themselves how incompetent he is!" said Ivy in a mocking tone.
Katie frowned, but since the people in the room were her former classmates, she decided not to pursue the matter. She was no stranger to such snide remarks, she had been showered with them a zillion times in the past, and she had gotten used to this kind of treatment. She concluded that it was not worth it to argue over it.
At this moment, Ted got up and said with a smile, "Katie, long time no see." Seeing that Katie was in an awkward spot, he decided to give her a hand.
Katie smiled back at him and said, "Indeed, Ted."
Ted continued, "Please, have a seat. Since everyone's here, I guess we can begin. Sofia, we're looking forward to tasting all the delicacies this place has to offer. We won't let you off easily, rich lady!"
Sofia stared at Ivy, clearly disgruntled. However, she knew when it was time to stop. She called the waiter and ordered the dishes.
Soon, beautiful waitresses entered the room and placed delicious-looking dishes on the table along with several bottles of fine wine.
"Sofia, you're this year's host. Is there something you would like to say?" Ted took the situation into his hands.
"Yeah, give us a speech, Sofia," echoed one of their classmates.
Sofia stood up with a glass of wine in hand and said, "There's not much to say. We haven't seen each other in a long time, and it's a good thing that we were able to meet again. Let's seize this opportunity to have some fun!
"This resort has a karaoke, a swimming pool, and other places where we can entertain ourselves. We can visit them once we're done with these dishes."
"Cheers!"
"Cheers!"
As they drained a few cups of wine, the atmosphere in the room became livelier.
Half an hour later, Sofia stood up all of a sudden and said, "Excuse me, I'm going to the bathroom."
Her classmates did not think much of it. Sofia walked out of the room, took out her phone, and made a call.
"Adam, where are you?"
"I'm at home, playing with Annie. Did something happen?" Adam replied.
A crafty look flitted past Sofia's eyes. "If you aren't too busy, you should come to the resort. Katie seems to have drunk too much and could use your help."
"Okay, I'll be there in half an hour," replied Adam.
Sofia hung up the call, and a happy grin appeared on her face. "That should do it. Ivy, you better get ready for what comes next!"
After returning to the room, Sofia resumed her meal.
Half an hour later, almost everybody was full. They slowed down and started chatting about what had happened as of late.
"Ivy, didn't you say that you came to Lisle because you wanted to close a deal? How did it go?" someone asked.
Ivy shook her head and said, annoyed, "It didn't go too well. I swear, those guys are all muscles and no brain. I said that I wanted to sponsor their mixed martial arts tournament, but they would not listen to reason. I was told that they had changed the name of the tournament and it's now called Ultimate Fighting Championship."
"Eh? Is it the same Ultimate Fighting Championship that has been gaining traction online in the past two days?" someone asked in surprise.
"Yeah, that's the one," Ivy said helplessly.
"That's pretty cool. The previous tournament was hosted in Lisle, but news of this Ultimate Fighting Championship has spread across the whole country.
"Yeah, I heard they want to recruit fighters from all over the country. The only requirement to participate is to be under the age of 35. Their goal should be to attract the best of the best."
"Ivy, if you can close this deal, your company will soar in popularity. It's very likely that you'll get a promotion."
Ivy smiled. "Yeah, that's why I hurried over. I was the first person to offer them a sponsorship, so I'm positive that I'll succeed in the end."
"I wish you good luck."
"Not bad, not bad. You're already the manager of the branch in Alameda County. Will you take a position at the main office if you're promoted?"
"Aside from Ted, you're the most successful person in our class."
Ivy's grin widened when her classmates praised her. She looked at Katie and sneered, "What are you saying? I still can't compare to Katie, who's the chairman of her company now." Her classmates smiled and spoke no further.
Sofia smiled coldly and did not lose her temper like she usually did.
I want to see for how long you can continue laughing. I bet you'll regret everything in a while!
At this time, someone knocked on the door.
"I'll go open the door." Before anyone could react, Sofia hopped toward the door.
"Adam, you're here!" said Sofia excitedly after opening the door.
Adam shook his head helplessly, stepping into the room with Annie.
Katie's classmates were stunned. They all turned to look at Adam.
Katie was the same. She asked in surprise, "Why are you here?" "Mom!" yelled Annie.
Mom?
Is that Katie's daughter? In that case, is that man Katie's husband?
Is he that guy with mental issues?
Adam saw that Katie did not seem drunk, which left him puzzled. He forced a smile and said, "Sofia told me that you were drunk. She asked me to come here." Katie turned to look at Sofia.
Sofia hid behind Adam and said, "Adam, none of our classmates believe Katie's words or the fact that you took on Rivers Bank by yourself. Help me prove them wrong! Especially that woman over there. Teach her a lesson!" Sofia was speaking loudly, so everyone could hear her words. Her classmates all turned to look at Adam and sized him up.
His clothes were ordinary, and his wristwatch seemed old and worn out. It was unknown what the brand was, but it could not be compared to Ted's Vacheron Constantin. As for his body build, he was neither fat nor thin. Other than that, he carried a little girl in his arms and had a plastic bag in his right hand with snacks and Legos inside. He gave off the air of a stay-at-home husband, looking nothing like someone rich or powerful. The people in the room shook their heads. Although they said nothing, their body language spoke for itself.
It turned out that Sofia was lying to help Katie keep up appearances.
Adam forced a smile and said, "Sofia, you shouldn't be so mean. They're your classmates, after all."
Katie also glared at Sofia.
"Since you aren't drunk, I'll take my leave. Sorry for disturbing your reunion, I hope you have fun. I'm going back home to put Annie to sleep," Adam apologized and turned to leave.
"Wait!" Ivy and Ted shouted in unison before Adam could leave.
Adam was dumbfounded. "What's up?"
Ted glanced at Ivy and decided to let her speak first.
Ivy smiled and asked, "Sofia told us that you're rich and influential. It made us curious. May we ask what your net worth is and what position you hold? Moreover, was it you who almost bankrupted Rivers Bank?" Adam shook his head and said, "She was just joking with you. No need to take her words so seriously."
