Return of the Prodigy Chapter 158
It was not Mr. Ortiz's voice but a woman's. She sounded anxious as she said, "Mr. Ortiz, please take a look at the news!"
Mr. Ortiz did not hang up the call but asked instead, "What happened that you're making such a fuss over it?"
The woman said anxiously, "Sir, it's all over the news!"
Mr. Ortiz snorted and said to Katie before hanging up the call, "Ms. Hartley, you're not going to convince me no matter what you do. I won't do business with your company again. Not now, not in the future! Less than a minute later, the phone rang again. It was Mr. Ortiz.
"Ms. Hartley... In hindsight, I feel like we might be able to replace a solution. What do you think?"
Katie blinked, an expression of disbelief on her face. She chatted with Mr. Ortiz for a short while and hung up the call, still puzzled.
An equally baffled Sofia queried, "Did he change his mind?"
Katie nodded.
Sofia finally turned to look at Adam and said, "Did you do something?"
"I've been sitting here all along. What could I have done?" Adam said with a smile.
No matter how much she racked her brain, Sofia could not make sense of the situation. "If it wasn't you, who did it?" she wondered aloud.
At this moment, Jenny barged into the room and said happily, "Katie, look at the news!"
Still puzzled, Katie turned on the TV. A weight was lifted from her chest when she saw the news. "It was the Hamiltons!"
The anchor explained, "The Hamiltons made an announcement on the official website of the Chamber of Commerce.
"According to the announcement, the Camdens are acting on their own, and their actions are not representative of Alameda County's Chamber of Commerce. The President made it clear that the Chamber of Commerce does not plan to penalize any company over this matter unless they do something unlawful.
"The President replaces the behavior of the Camdens appalling and unfair to smaller companies.
"As the President of the Chamber of Commerce, Andrew Hamilton said he has the duty to uphold the rules and protect small businesses. Any company that is being threatened by the Camdens can seek the help of the Hamiltons. On the other hand, companies that are actively helping the Camdens might be sanctioned.
"And Sunshine Group is a glaring example."
With the last sentence, the Hamiltons were taking credit for what happened to Sunshine Group.
"Adam, they're taking credit for what you did!" Sofia exclaimed.
Adam was stunned. However, he soon understood what the Hamiltons were planning. He smiled and shook his head.
If the Hamiltons were planning to borrow his influence, he would let them do so since they were allies. If they managed to get rid of the Camdens, it would benefit him as well.
"The Hamiltons are on the move," Katie exclaimed excitedly. "This will help us offset some of the pressure that the Camdens are putting on us.
"Adam, was it you who contacted them? Thank you!"
Adam smiled and did not tell her the truth.
In the next moment, the phone on the table rang again.
"Ms. Hartley, we would like to resume the cooperation between our companies..."
As soon as they hung up, the phone rang once more.
All the calls were from companies that wanted to work with Hartley Group again after hearing the news.
Hartley Group seemed to be out of danger, at least for now.

At the same time, somewhere else.
Five Jeeps drove to Lisle, each filled with burly men.
The men spoke in Spanish and looked at the scenery outside the window in amusement.
"Boss, aren't we just dealing with a small fry? Is there really a need to mobilize all of our forces?"
"Yeah, I can complete this mission alone. Not even his mother will recognize him after I'm done with him!"
The man who appeared to be the leader of the group said in a deep voice, "Although the mission seems easy, we can't afford to let our guard down. The real threat doesn't come from our target but from the military of this country. "Don't forget that they have the strongest military in the world."
His teammates did not seem intimidated and laughed instead. "And yet, getting in the country was a piece of cake. Those guys probably don't even know that we're here."
"If I have to be honest, I hope we meet some of their soldiers. They say they're the best in the world, but it must be because they've never met our team, Angeles."
"I bet those guys are overweight and can barely run. They would die of exhaustion before even catching us, haha!"
"Ametralladora, who gives a shit about the soldiers. I would rather f**k the women here, those that are not obese at least."
"Hahaha, I can't wait to let them have a taste of my sausage. They'll be begging for it!"
The men laughed as they made distasteful remarks.
-
In a magnificent villa in the capital.
Mario sat in his wheelchair, a large screen opposite him.
A short moment later, Silas' face appeared on the screen. Silas was in his pajamas and had just woken up; he did not seem to be in the best mood.
Mario said with a laugh, "Silas, I didn't think you'd end up like this one day."
As both of them had been grounded by their fathers, there was a certain connection between them. Given the special circumstances, they could only talk remotely.
Silas frowned, displeased with Mario's remarks. "Did you call me only to make fun of me? If there's nothing else, I'm hanging up!"
Mario was in a good mood today, so he wanted to share this news with Silas and did not mind his language.
"Heh, don't be angry. I know Adam Drake pulled quite the number on you, but I'll avenge you soon."
After a moment of confusion, Silas narrowed his eyes. "Are those guys you were looking for here?"
Mario nodded. "Yes, they just sent me a message. They're in Lisle."
An expression of surprise flashed on Silas' face, but he was still worried. "How much did you spend? Can these guys be trusted?"
Mario said proudly, "Don't worry, the group of mercenaries I've hired is called Angeles, and they're ranked top 20 worldwide. They've never failed a mission yet.
"That's one of the reasons I specifically looked for them. I didn't want to give that bastard the chance to turn the tables as he did before.
"If everything goes according to the plan, he should be kneeling before me tomorrow morning."
Silas was finally free from worries. "I wish you success. Remember to notify me when you catch him. I want to watch his execution live!"
Mario laughed smugly. "As you wish. However, the ticket to the show won't be cheap."
Silas smiled back. "Heh, I don't lack the money. When I take over Lisle, all the casinos will be yours."
The two looked at each other and grinned.
-
At this moment inside Camden Residence.
Jaylen Camden looked at the news, his face filled with fury.
"Andrew Hamilton! It seems you want to exploit my family to gain the favor of the public... Since you want to play this game with me, I'll be happy to oblige.
"Alameda County has been peaceful for many years now, but things are about to change. Pass on my orders. Start meddling with any company that is related to the Hamiltons. No matter the cost, get rid of their pawns."
The old butler turned around and left to make preparations.
As for Jaylen, he picked up his phone and made a few calls.
"Moretti, you must've seen the announcement, right? Andrew said that the actions of the Camdens aren't representative of the Chamber of Commerce, yet his family doesn't seem to have any problems speaking on behalf of the Chamber of Commerce without consulting with the others first. I'm afraid that old fox isn't going to stop at this. We should start making preparations."
There was silence on the other end of the phone. Then, a man said hoarsely, "Fine, I'll free up my schedule. But what about the Thompsons and the Kents..."
Jaylen snorted. "Those two old fools had better behave. Remember that we have El Coco on our side, so I don't mind taking them down as well. Enrico Morales wants to make use of us, but we can also borrow some of his influence. When it comes to shady deals, no one is better than him."
The person on the other end laughed. "Fine, I'll do as you say."
The Camdens had mobilized all of their forces, and the Morettis were about to enter the fray as well. After many years of peace, the six largest families in Alameda County and El Coco were about to wage war.
The reason for this storm was a tiny company called Hartley Group...
