Return Of The Real Heiress: Secrets And Masks -
My Billionaire Family 462
Chapter 462
No matter how loudly Truman called after him, Morris remained unmoved, heading straight into the elevator.
The elevator doors slowly closed once again. Truman was left standing outside, staring at the tightly shut doors, utterly perplexed.
He murmured, "What on earth is going on here? He looks like lie just woke up. The look in his eyes is totally different from usual. Marriage sure has a way of messing with people's heads. He even starts ignoring his own friend."
With that, he turned and headed toward Morris's office, thinking he'd sit there, have a snack, and wait it out-or maybe replace Steven and Leo to discuss the wedding plans.
Halfway there, he stopped, a look of doubt crossing his face. He turned back toward the tightly shut elevator doors, feeling that something wasn't right.
Leo walked out of the meeting room just in time to see Truman standing there, looking a bit dazed. "Mr. Simpson, what brings you here? Don't tell me you've heard we're selecting wedding planners today?"
Realizing what he'd said, Leo immediately covered his mouth, correcting himself. "No, I mean-why aren't you going in? What are you doing just standing here? Mr. Chivers is in his office. And what's with the silence? Usually, you make noise before you even show up."
When Truman didn't respond, Leo waved a hand in front of his face. Snapping out of it, Truman swatted Leo's hand away and said, "Is something wrong with Morris today? He seemed completely out of it-like the life had been drained out of him."
Leo replied, "No way! He is in great spirits today, like he's walking on air. I've never seen him so upbeat-except maybe when he's with his wife."
As he spoke, Leo couldn't help but chuckle. This wedding had him more excited than anyone else.
Truman slapped his thigh hard and said, "Then something's definitely not right." He looked up at the nearby security cameras, grabbed Leo's arm, and urged, "Quick, the surveillance footage-let's check it now." Leo, dragged along, protested, "Hey, isn't Mr. Chivers in his office?"
"No, he just left," Truman said, now visibly anxious, as he pulled Leo into Morris's office.
There was no one in the room. Leo pointed to the desk and said. "He really isn't here. Mr. Simpson, look, his phone is still on the desk." Seemingly influenced by Truman's unease, he started feeling nervous himself.
Truman was already reviewing the surveillance footage of Morris leaving the office. "Leo, look closely. Doesn't he seem off to you? Just look at his expression."
Leo stared at the screen, nodding repeatedly. "You're right. He does, What's going on?"
Truman continued scrubbing through the surveillance footage until it showed Morris leaving the Chivers Group building. He exclaimed, "What the-he drove off by himself and didn't even bring his phone. In this state, he shouldn't be driving. "Leo, extract this footage and send it to Cherise. I'll call her first to give her a heads-up. We need to be extra cautious. Sure, Morris is formidable, but after the recent incident with Garrick, we can't be too careful.
"If anything goes wrong, it'll be a disaster. With the wedding just around the corner, losing the groom now would be a catastrophe."

Cherise was still at Carson's island. She had just finished eating when Truman's call came in. "Hello, Truman."
Truman's tone was unusually grave as he said, "Cherise, check your phone. Leo's sending you some surveillance footage. Take a look. Something seems off with Morris.
"He left the Chivers Group on his own, and his behavior is completely out of character. Worse, he didn't even take his phone."
Cherise's pupils dilated slightly as a sense of foreboding crept over her. She responded with a simple "Got it" and hung up.
Unlocking her phone, she found that Leo's video had already come through. She watched it, her brows knitting together almost instantly.
Carson, sitting nearby, noticed her change in expression and asked, "Something happened to Morris?"

Cherise put her phone away, stood up abruptly, and replied, "Yes, it's clear from his eyes-he's been cursed. It's probably the Hawkins family again. After all, I didn't exactly leave them in peace.
"With Ghost Hand just apprehended, they must've planned this carefully to strike now. We need to leave immediately. Dr. Garcia, please get us to shore as soon as possible. Crow, track Morris's location and run a search for license plate PL98988."
Crow acted fast. The computer was ready, and he was typing rapidly on the keyboard while walking. Cherise reached into her bag and pulled out a small glass vial, her gaze turning icy cold.
The vial contained the cursed worm she had extracted during a practical training session with students from the Traditional Medicine Department at the morgue of Betrico Hospital.
It was the very same worm that had emerged from Garrick's body after his curse backfired.
Cherise, Hugh, and Crow walked briskly. Soon, they returned to the shore and got into their car, ready to set off in search of Morris.
Just as they climbed in, Crow pulled up some surveillance footage. "Boss, take a look! Something's strange."
Cherise leaned over, and Crow continued, "Here, see? Mr. Chivers' car drove to this area near the outskirts of the city. It stopped there-and hasn't moved since."
