Chapter 1657

Soon, Will, Hailey, and Timothy rushed over with their respective subordinates and sealed all theexits of the hotel.

Amongst the three of them, Hailey and Will were exceptionally surprised and furious.

For the General to be attacked twice consecutively in Brimmopolis, it was a blatant act ofprovocation. The perpetrator was simply being too bold!

Will commanded in a stern voice. “Impose martial law on the entire city right away.”

Similarly, Hailey Reagan instructed furiously, “Under my orders, cancel everyone's breaks in theSecret Service. They are all to investigate this matter. It is an impetus to ferret out all the culpritswho participated in this attack against

the General.”

Timothy's face paled. He wanted to say something and take appropriate action, but he foundhimself at a loss for words instead.

Brimmopolis was under his jurisdiction, but the General actually got attacked by mercenaries there.

As this was proof that there was a serious flaw with his management, he would definitely be heldaccountable for his negligence.

However, Nathan suddenly interrupted calmly, “Wait.”

When Will, Hailey, and the rest heard that, they stared at him in astonishment.

Stunned, Will insisted, “General, the forces opposing you are much more formidable than what weexpected. Furthermore, they're really bold! We can't possibly let anyone slip away, so we must

impose a full martial lockdown on the city instantly.”

Hailey concurred, “Yeah, we must immediately hold a cabinet meeting to handle this matter.”

However, Nathan replied coolly, “Indeed, we must report this to the cabinet and investigate itproperly. However, news of me being attacked last night has already created a small commotion inBrimmopolis. If news spread that I got attacked again tonight, people might start to panic. Hence,you are not allowed to spread the news widely. Ensure that all information is not leaked to the publicand treat this incident as highly confidential. We'll settle it internally.”

When Hailey and Will heard him, they nodded simultaneously. “Yes, sir!”

Nathan's gaze then landed on Timothy as he asked, “Mr. Carter, continue your investigation. Thereare still nine days to the deadline of your pledge. If you cannot uncover the truth and submit asatisfactory report to me, that'll be the end of you.”

Timothy initially assumed that the General would be exceptionally furious after being attacked forthe second time. Hence, he had expected the latter to kick him away immediately instead ofallowing him to continue the investigation.

To his surprise, Nathan still instructed him to continue investigating.

A glimmer of hope rose within him. Gazing at Nathan gratefully, he solemnly promised, “Don't worry,General. I'll do my utmost best to investigate this matter and not disappoint you.”

After a slight hesitation, he gritted his teeth and said, “Actually, I managed to replace a clue today, but Ialso faced some resistance in the process of investigating. I hope that you can give me moreleeway. Otherwise, I'm afraid that progress will be slow.”

Nathan's eyes lit up as he asked, “What did you replace out?”

Timothy replied, “I found out that a guy called Weston Piper from Brimmopolis is the one liaisingwith the Dark Lord's mercenaries. It's highly possible that they managed to infiltrate Brimmopolisthrough him.”

Nathan frowned. “Why haven't you seized him for an interrogation yet?”

Smiling bitterly, he replied, “You might not know this, General, but Weston is Mr. Tucker's disciple.He used to hold a position in the military but was forced to retire early due to a mistake hecommitted. After retiring, he founded an international security company, which is actually a cover fora mercenary company.”

After a slight pause, he continued, “As Weston is Mr. Tucker's disciple, he shares a very closerelationship with him. He has very wide social connections with various people. With an army ofhighly skilled mercenaries who are comparable to special forces and Mr. Tucker backing him up, hecan do whatever he wants in both the upper-class and underworld society. Without sufficientevidence, even I cannot capture him for an investigation.”

Nathan frowned. “What do you propose, then?”

He replied, “I'd like you to give me more authority. It'll be the best-case scenario if I can bypass thejudicial process and immediately capture Weston for an investigation.”

Nathan replied coolly, “That's simple. Hailey, instruct the Secret Service to cooperate with Mr. Carterfully.”

Hailey quickly answered, “Okay. Timothy, if there are any suspects whom you cannot capture forinvestigation due to insufficient evidence, my men can do it on your behalf. We'll hand them to youprivately for an interrogation.”

If Timothy wanted to capture someone, he needed to go through multiple procedures. Withoutstrong evidence, it was a difficult feat to seize a powerful man for Timothy. Furthermore, he couldnot resort to unofficial methods to investigate the matter either.

However, Hailey was different. The Secret Service did not need to account for anything if theywanted to seize someone. They only had to report to the President.

Timothy replied, “Thank you!”

Then, he hurriedly said to Nathan, “There's one more thing. I discovered that the weapons the DarkLord's men wielded were trafficked from the Guardian Special Forces. However, I'm not in a goodposition to investigate them.”

When Will heard that the mercenaries' weapons were trafficked from his special forces, he wasshocked and furious.

Before Nathan could say anything, he offered, “I'll investigate this. If the weapons really came frommy special forces, I'll definitely replace out the truth and hand the culprits over to you, General.”

Nathan nodded. “Very well, all of you may return to your work.”
