Salute To The General
Chapter 1831

Chapter 1831

When Garrett saw that Nathan had killed the assassin, he couldn't help but ask, "Why didn't you keep him alive so that we can replace out who sent him?"

Nathan plainly replied, "Because this matter has to be kept a secret."

Garrett was briefly stunned before regaining his senses quickly.

Now was a crucial time for the Presidential elections. Clifford and Zion were the favorites to win followed by Garrett.

It wasn't the right time for Garrett to show his strength as he wanted Zion and Clifford to face off with each other first.

Hence, his current strategy was to keep a low profile and pretended he was in the race just to make up the numbers. By throwing off his enemies, he hoped to reduce the animosity from Zion and Clifford's camps.

Or else, if they were aware of Garrett's ambition, they might decide to take him, the dark horse, out of the equation before their own showdown. Garrett understood the importance of keeping a low profile. Hence, he had been trying to stay out of the limelight recently.

Furthermore, he wasn't ready to let others know that he had the support of Nathan, Zach, and Lucas.

That was the reason he held a clandestine meeting with them.

Therefore, Nathan killed the assassin so that they could maintain their low profile and not attract any attention to the secret meeting they were having.

Nathan replied with a smile, "Besides, this man is an elite assassin and it would be impossible to replace out who his employer was. After all, he was most likely hired anonymously."

"On top of that, the assassin was coming for me. It doesn't take a genius to figure out who my biggest enemy recently is. Hence, there's no need to even investigate."

Having heard Nathan, the same two names flashed across everyone's mind: The Davier family or the Goldstein family?

Garrett murmured, "Are you planning to let the matter slide for the time being?"

Nathan nodded. "It will have to wait till after the presidential elections."

Garrett and the others agreed with Nathan. Their priority was to win the elections. Everything else will just have to wait till then. Obviously, if Clifford won the elections for President, he would be the one to come after them instead.

The ultimate winner will still have to be decided by the election results.

At that moment, troops of National Guards and Cab bodyguards swarmed the building to secure it.

Garrett ordered his subordinates to clean the place up discreetly and ensure that whatever happened that night was kept under wraps.

After that, he together with the rest went their separate ways.

However, they might be able to hide what happened at the farmhouse restaurant from the masses but there was no way they could keep such a huge incident secret from Clifford and Zion.

On that very night itself, both of them were made aware of the clandestine gathering. They also knew of the assassination attempt and how Nathan killed the attacker with one blow.

Clifford was still reading papers in his study when he was informed of the incident.

Despite being surprised by the news, he didn't feel agitated at all. In fact, he was intrigued.

He inquired keenly with his subordinate, "Quent, is the information credible?"

Quent replied, "Yes, Mr. Davier, without a doubt."

"Mr. Davier, I didn't expect Garrett to be so ambitious given how unassuming he has always been."

"It's obvious that he is not satisfied with just running for show. He truly harbors the ambition to be President and want to challenge you and Zion for it." "Mr. Davier, you have to take precautions against him."

Clifford burst into hearty laughter. "Don't worry Garrett doesn't have many people behind him. Even if he has secured the support of Nathan, Lucas, and Zach, his power base isn't strong enough to create any meaningful impact."

Clifford continued, “besides, from what I can see, Nathan and the others had supported Zion initially. But now, it seems they have switched their allegiance over to Garrett. This is a sign

that their camp is in disarray, which is advantageous to me."

He concluded, “Let's just wait and see. I'm sure they would be beset by internal strife soon.

Whoever comes out on top would have only won a pyrrhic victory, which would be even more beneficial to me. Haha!"
