Salute To The General
Chapter 1852

Chapter 1852

The lead car, a Land Rover, was now speeding right toward Nathan and his family as though wanting to run them over.

Penny and those around her were frozen on the ground. Their eyes widened in intense fear.

Ava's eyes darkened, her right hand was already rested on the military dagger she carried around her waist. She was ready to hurl it at the driver of the Land Rover any time now.

Everyone was frantic except Nathan, who was as composed as usual.

The incoming Land Rover screeched to a halt just a few meters away from Nathan.

Screech

A piercing sound of the car brake could be heard from where Nathan and his family stood.

Despite the car had already stopped, everyone was covered in cold sweat.

The rest of the cars stopped as the Land Rover did.

A man in a black leather jacket stepped out of the Land Rover with a sneer on his face.

Then, dozens of men who appeared to be that man's subordinates got out of their cars respectively.

The man wearing the leather jacket walked up to Nathan and spoke in disdain, "Well, well... Who do we have here? Isn't this the magnificent, terror- evoking, once-upon-a-time general?"

Nathan furrowed his brows slightly.

The man standing before him was none other than Shane Lennox from Channing, President of Hay Pharmaceuticals.

A year ago, Shane was incarcerated for not only insulting Nathan and Penny but also for attempting to cause physical harm to Nathan. He was sent to prison for one year and had just been released of late.

The time he had spent serving in prison did little to soothe his contempt for Nathan and Penny. His desire to seek revenge had only intensified as time went by.

Thus, Shane was more than thrilled when the news of Nathan's dismissal from the military travelled to him.

If Nathan was to remain the General of the North, it would be next to impossible for Shane to get even with him.

Now that Nathan no longer held a military position, Shane figured there was no better time than now to avenge his dignity.

A reliable source told Shane that Nathan was due back in Channing today.

That was when he decided to gather his group of underlings for this occasion.

Nathan let out a slight smile and said, "Well, what a nice surprise. But I must say, the time you've spent laboring away in prison hasn't changed you much."

The man's casual remark on Shane's reform-through-labor prison sentence for the past year had successfully infuriated Shane and riled him up to no end.

He glared at Nathan and grunted, "The nerve you have of bringing this up. You must be in a

hurry to go to the underworld!"

Nathan was amused by the man's confidence as he chuckled and replied, "You're joking, right?"

Shane sneered, "Nathan, everyone knows that not only have you been dismissed, but you've also gotten on the bad side of Mr. Davier. You're now nothing without your military rank and there's no one you can count on to save your sorry ass! Nevertheless, if you're willing to get on your knees and beg for my forgiveness, I may consider sparing your life."

The man's threats did little to rattle Nathan as he replied flatly, "Shane, I don't know who you think you are, but in my eyes, you're just a useless piece of trash. My advice for you is to get out of my face while you still can."

Shane was first startled with widened eyes; he then felt amused. "Hahaha! While I still can?

You're dreaming if you still think that you're the commander-in-chief of the North army!"

Shane became rather emotional and

continued to ramble on, "Look at you and your pitiful traveling troop. I don't see any senior leaders or high-ranking commanders lining up to welcome your return today. That's because everyone knows you've pissed Mr. Davier off and have been discharged from your post. You're a dead man walking, Nathan."

Seeing as Nathan was still motionless, Shane's voice turned icy. “It seems like the cruel reality hasn't dawned on you. Well, I'm more than happy to do the honor." With that, he turned around and barked his order at his underlings, "Boys, let's start by breaking both his legs as a small repayment for what he did to me a year ago!"

Upon their leader's signal, Shane's men started charging toward Nathan when a fleet of luxury cars suddenly appeared in the corner of their eyes. The swift appearance of the fleet startled everyone. The lead car was most eye-catching, not only because it was a Rolls-Royce and but more so because of its car plate number.

Upon seeing the "88888" car plate number on the Rolls-Royce, comments erupted among the onlookers. "My goodness, isn't that Thomas Dunn, the infamous boss of the Channing underworld?"

In no time, a tall and burly Thomas in black coat emerged from the Rolls-Royce.

Following that, about two hundred other men, all dressed in black suits, stepped out of their respective cars. Everyone looked formidable.

If Shane was mildly befuddled by the sudden formation of the fleet, what happened next would render him completely speechless. Together with the men in black, Thomas strode toward Nathan, took a bow, and called out in unison, "Mr. Cross!"

Say what?Thomas Dunn, the mighty

king of Channing underworld, is

paying respect to Nathan? He should have known that without his military title, Nathan is now just an ordinary citizen, not to mention he has also gotten on the bad side of the powerful Mr. Davier. This guy is doomed! And yet, not only did Thomas not distance himself from Nathan, he's acting as if Nathan is still his sworn brother!

Shane was in such a shock his eyes almost popped out from their sockets.

Nathan patted Thomas' shoulder in acknowledgment while looking over at Shane.

He then spoke in amusement, "I'm sorry, you

were saying you wanted to break both my legs?"

Thomas' eyes widened in anger upon hearing of Shane's preposterous threat to Nathan.

Thomas' crowd of subordinates was no exception: they were now glaring menacingly at Shane and his lackeys. There was palpable tension in the air.

The difference in the balance of power between the two sides was apparent.

Shane's face turned white as a sheet; cold beads of sweat started to trickle down from his forehead.
