Salute To The General
Chapter 1853

Chapter 1853

Thomas' laser vision remained burning on Shane. The former had worshipped Nathan since the very beginning. He even regarded Nathan as his god, one to be served faithfully for all eternity.

"Who do you think you are? You'll soon regret what you just said!" Thomas was beside himself.

The mere mention of breaking his god's legs was beyond blasphemy.

Shane's expression grew aghast as Thomas spoke and walked toward him.

Shane's underlings attempted to stop Thomas. "What do you think you're doing?"

"Protect Mr. Lennox!" another man yelled while attempting to shield Shane from Thomas' impending strike.

Within minutes, Thomas' men swiftly maneuvered in such a way that had all of Shane's dozen or so men wailing and moaning on the ground. Shane was horrified by the rapid unfolding of events before his widened eyes. "Thomas, you should know that Nathan is no longer the General of the North. And with Mr. Davier hunting him down sooner or later, don't you see his days are numbered? This is the time for you to take the right stance, to recognize that Nathan is not someone worth sacrificing your life for!"

Thomas was unfazed. His voice was chilly. "The general and I go way back and I've sworn loyalty to him for as long as I live, rain or shine! We've been through countless battles and bloodshed. I would stare death in the eyes, let alone you and Davier!"

Shane's heart sank as Thomas' voice grew colder and more dangerous as he spoke.

Before Shane could respond, Thomas waved his hands at his men. "Enough nonsense. Time to serve him well."

A few men charged forward at Shane, who was immediately pinned onto the ground while his own underlings lay helplessly like the survivors of a shipwreck.

A moment later, Nathan could hear the sound of bones cracking in Shane's arms and legs.

Nathan's brows furrowed slightly but he did not stop the men. He asked for it.

Seeing Shane had gotten what he deserved, Thomas turned around to Nathan and said politely, "Mr. and Mrs. Cross, please get in the car. I'll drive you back to your residence."

Nathan nodded and sat in the Rolls-Royce.

Finally exhaling a sigh of relief, Penny said, "Thank you for your timely assistance, Thomas."

The hefty man chuckled slightly and replied, "It's my pleasure, Mrs. Cross. I've sworn loyalty to Mr. Cross and will always be by his side. It's my honor to serve both of you."

With that, Nathan and his family were chauffeured home by the king of the Channing underworld himself.

During their drive home, Thomas reported to Nathan, "Mr. Cross, I was informed that General Franklin Wilson is on his way to Brimmopolis for a meeting. Also, Russell Crow is no longer the mayor of Channing; he's been replaced by Arthur Rivers."

Thomas hesitated for a brief moment before he continued, "Arthur used to be Mr. Davier's subordinate; that's why you did not replace any welcoming troops or leaders from the local government today..."

Nathan let out a comforting laugh as

he spoke, "Don't worry, Thomas. I am, in fact, no longer a

commander-in-chief and I did have a

bad run-in with Mr. Davier. It's only

normal that people avoid me

me

Believe it or not, I feel more at peace this way."

Despite nodding in agreement, Thomas was still concerned. "I'm only worried that these people will not give up on coming for you and disrupting your life. It's especially so with this new mayor from Channing who is in Davier's camp. Now that you're no longer a general, I'm afraid he may come looking for trouble."

"That's fine by me,” Nathan replied with a faint smile.

As Thomas continued driving steadily behind the wheel, he recalled that despite being dismissed from the military post Nathan had actually retained his title, Additionally, there were still a number of captains and majors who would be more than willing to be at Nathan's disposal if called upon.

Having convinced himself that a mere city mayor like Arthur would not pose any real threats to Nathan and his family, Thomas' attention was back on the road.

Not long after, the Rolls-Royce arrived at Riverside Garden.

Before Thomas bade goodbye with Nathan and his family, he asked politely, "Mr. Cross, it's your birthday in a few days' time. What would you say if I arrange for a celebration at Cloud Palace?"

Nathan could not bring himself to reject the man's sincere invitation, hence he agreed. "That's fine. Just remember to keep it low-key. Let's just have a nice dinner with a few good friends and families. And no gifts, please.”

His response was received favorably by Thomas, who responded in a loud, grinning voice, "Yes, Sir!"

Meanwhile, in a cab conference hall in Brimmopolis, a major event was taking place.

Roaring applause erupted from all the spectators gathered here. The audience included representatives of all levels of the government as well as domestic and international journalists.

They were here to witness and report on the official retirement of Hansel Windsor as well as the inauguration of Garrett Woods, the incoming President of Eurasia.
