Salute To The General -
Chapter 1862
Chapter 1862
The reflection of the spearhead gleamed in Nathan's eyes as it went past his face by just a few inches. Nathan had taken a step back and tilted his body backward, narrowly dodging the razor-sharp spear.
Having missed his target just by a tiny bit, Zachery swung the spear around and charged toward Nathan like an enraged bull.
He wielded the two-meter spear agilely, spinning and swirling it as he fought Nathan. His maneuvering of the weapon was skillful and masterly as he battered his opponent relentlessly.
Yet, despite how good Zachery was with the spear, his attacks were futile. Although he kept showering strikes at Nathan, Nathan was cool as a cucumber. His moves were spontaneous and
unswerving as he dodged Zachery's attacks.
The repeated attacks exhausted Zachery, and his energy was wearing thin.
Meanwhile, Nathan, who had been merely defending himself all this while, spotted his opponent's lethargy and knew it was his chance to act.
In a flash, he pulled out his sword and struck when no one was expecting him to retaliate.
The whetted blade cut through the air, and with a final whoosh, Nathan put an end to the draining fight.
Everything came to a halt as Zachery stood still two meters away from Nathan.
Wait, what just happened? Why did they stop?
The clueless crowd had their gaze locked on the duo, holding their breath.
Right then, Zachery's head drooped and his eyes widened in disbelief upon realizing that the spear in his hands had broken into a clean half.
Incipient pain intensified in his chest as his shirt gradually turned blood red.
Blood spread out across his chest in no time, soaking his whole shirt wet.
From the sight of it, the wound was undoubtedly deep and fatal.
Shrieks and shouts echoed in the restaurant while Zachery dropped to the ground in utter defeat.
He lifted his head in resignation with his quivering lips curled up into a sad smile. "Isn't life funny? I've worked hard my whole life, but still, I lost to you."
"You're a talented man, and you could have had a bright future. But you made the wrong choice," Nathan replied indifferently as he looked at the man kneeling before him.
Zachery's lips twitched as words lingered in his mouth. Before he could say another word, he collapsed to the ground and heaved his last breath. With Toby and Zachery dead, their headless underlings fell into trepidation.
Just as they were busy thinking about their next step, Zed arrived with his team of armed policemen.
The captain rushed over to Nathan and greeted him before ordering his men to apprehend Toby and Zachery's subordinates. "Bind them up. Don't lose any of them!"
Within seconds, the police arrested them and dragged them out.
"Mr. Cross, I'm so sorry you have to deal with this bunch of imbeciles on your birthday. I'll make sure these brats get what they deserve. I actually wanted to come over and celebrate with you, but the mayor was insistent on having a meeting..."
Nathan smiled and patted Zed on the shoulder. He knew the latter wanted to come over, but Arthur was new in the office, so there was no way he would allow Zed to take leave.
"Don't worry about it. We can just come out for a drink another day," Nathan assured him.
Zed nodded slightly and gestured to leave. "Sure. I'll make a move first then. Some of these people are internationally-wanted fugitives. They are a bunch of pirates. We've been on their tail for a long time, and I'll make sure they are held accountable. I'll see you around." "See you,” Nathan said with a quick nod as he watched Zed leave.
The lot who was there to celebrate Nathan's birthday was finally left alone after the whole commotion.
However, nobody was in the mood for a celebration anymore.
The friends and relatives lingered around a little longer before everyone went home.
After seeing the guests out, Nathan and his family headed back to Riverside Garden.
Once they got home, Penny went to the bathroom and filled the tub with warm water for Nathan to bathe.
The doorbell rang when she came out of the bathroom, and Penny rushed toward the door to see who it was.
"It1 okay, Mrs. Cross, I'll go get it." Beside her, Ava went over to the door herself.
She froze the moment she swung the door open.
Outside the door stood a group of policemen with loaded guns. Standing in front of the men was Zero Yorick, the second man in charge after Zed. "What brings y'all here?" Ava asked with her guard up.
"I'm here for business. Mr. Cross killed someone at Cloud Palace earlier this evening. We hope he can take a trip with us to the police station," he said in a cold tone as he showed Ava the proof.
“Are you in your right mind? You're taking Mr. Cross to the police station?" Ava raised her voice as she glared at the men standing at the door.
But their leader did not seem
intimidated at all. "Allow me to
remind you, that Mr. Cross is no longer the General of the North, He
killed someone in our jurisdiction, so it's only natural that we investigate him."
QUMS
"You've got some nerve, don't you? Does Zed know about this?" Ava interrogated.
"Well, the mayor put me in charge of this case so Captain Walker
obviously has no say in this. You should just ask Nathan to come out and follow us to the police station," the haughty policeman insisted.
Just as Ava was about to teach him a good lesson, Nathan and Penny came over to the door and intervened.
Nathan had overheard their conversation, but his face remained impassive. "Did you say that Arthur asked you to come and get me?" he asked.
Instead of answering Nathan's
question, Zero straightened his back and replied evasively, saying, "This is the protocol, and I'm just doing my work Please come to the police station with us, Mr. Cross."
His voice trailed off toward the end as he sensed Nathan drilling his gaze into him.
Although Zero knew he had his men with him, Nathan's scorching glare still unnerved him.
