Salute To The General
Chapter 1863

Chapter 1863

Just as everyone thought Nathan would slam the door on Zero and put him in place, Nathan agreed to comply.

And there was clearly a reason why he was cooperating with the police. Arthur was Channing city's mayor, and he was also affiliated with Clifford.

It was plain as day that Arthur was getting at him on purpose. If Nathan chose to just let him off the hook without teaching him a good lesson, he would not know when Arthur would mess with him again in the future.

The company reached the police station after a short ride.

As Zero ushered Nathan into the interrogation room, a few other police officers went in after

him.

Zero asked his men to take notes as he sat down across Nathan. "We'll be taking your statement during this interview. Please state your name, gender, age, and address."

Nathan could not help but laugh at his formality. "Are you seriously taking me for a criminal?"

Zero slammed the table and bellowed, "Who do you think you are, Nathan Cross? You might be someone important, but that was the past. You're already stripped of your position. Don't you know that it's a serious crime to kill someone? Do you know what the penalty for homicide is? You might go to jail or even get a death sentence!"

A scornful smile broke out across Nathan's face as he looked Zero in the eye. "Even if I'm not the General of the North anymore, who are you to question me?” “Well, you violated the laws in my prefecture. Besides, the mayor asked me to look into this himself. Do you think I'll just let you do whatever you like?" Zero asked in a challenging tone.

"I might not be the General of the North anymore, but I'm still an army officer with a military rank, and just in case you forgot, I'm a general in rank." Nathan cautioned him as he leaned forward, "Deputy Captain Yorick, I really don't think you have the right to interfere with the army's affairs." Opposite him, Zero and the other officers suddenly found themselves at a loss for words.

It was true that Nathan was no longer the commander-in-chief of the North Army and that he was no longer a man of position in the army, but they totally forgot that Nathan still had his

military rank.

In other words, he was an army officer who retained his military rank as a general.

Even if he was just a member of the army without any power to deploy soldiers, the police were still not in the position to meddle with his business. All military affairs were managed directly by the Security Department within the army.

Realizing he had overstepped the limits of his authority, Zero suddenly became fidgety.

Just as he was contemplating if he should just let Nathan go, the door opened to a severe-looking man who walked right in without greeting anybody. Despite his underwhelming height, his commanding aura was absorbing. A horde of men followed behind him closely as they all entered the room. When Zero saw the middle-aged man, he and the other officers quickly got to their feet and greeted him in unison, "Mr. Rivers."

The new mayor nodded his head slightly without even looking at them.

Arthur Rivers had been looking at the whole interrogation process from the room next door.

Not only did he see everything through the oneway mirror in the interrogation room, but he also heard the whole conversation from the earphones. Seeing that Zero failed to intimidate Nathan, Arthur decided to step in and do it himself.

After all, the reason why he asked Nathan to come over was to humiliate him.

"It's a pleasure to have finally met you in person, General. I can't believe I'm seeing you here. It's a shame that we meet under such circumstances," Arthur spoke while feigning a smile.

"I do meet up with your mentor a lot though," Nathan replied curtly but politely.

The smile on Arthur's face froze unnaturally, for he knew what Nathan meant. Nathan was pointing out that Clifford was his old enemy, but Arthur was nowhere close to Clifford's level for Nathan to meet

him.

Knowing full well that Nathan was trying to insult him, Arthur disregarded his comment and turned toward Zero. “What's the matter? Why did you call the General over?"

In front of him, Zero looked up and blinked his eyes cluelessly at his superior. Weren't you the one who asked me to do it?

But Zero knew well enough not to

blurt out whatever was on his mind. "A fight broke out at Cloud Palace earlier this evening. The General killed someone, so we're simply following the law and investigating the incident." Zero had no other choice but to take the blame himself.

The mayor nodded again in agreement. "I see. Continue with the interview then. I'm sure the General will give you his full cooperation."

Cold sweat started rolling down Zero's forehead when he heard what Arthur said. "Well, Mr. Rivers..."

"Is there a problem with that?" An annoyed frown spread across the mayor's brows.

The nervous deputy captain looked away and mumbled, "The General still has his military rank, although he's no longer serving as the

commander-in-chief. He's still

an

army officer with a high military

rank, so I think the army should take over from here."

"That's true. Then just carry on with the interrogation and wrap it up before handing this case over to the army," Arthur said without betraying the slightest emotion in his voice.
