Salute To The General -
Chapter 1865
Chapter 1865
By the time Nathan and Linus got out, there were already several black cars with military car plates parked outside the police station.
As the two headed toward the first car, Linus stopped beside the door and invited Nathan in courteously.
But Nathan declined with a smile. "After you."
After they got into the car, the sedan sped off and headed toward Riverside Garden.
“What brings you all the way here? I thought you were in Brimmopolis? Aren't you busy at the Security Department?” Nathan bombarded him with questions right after he got in.
"I came on order," Linus replied accordingly.
"Oh! On whose order? And what for?"
"President Woods asked me to come over. He also asked you to be prepared to take up a new job."
The President?Garrett?
"That's great. I finally get to flex some muscles. I knew he wouldn't just neglect me after he became the President," he said chirpily. "So what's this new assignment he's given me? Does he want to make me the General of the North again?"
Linus shook his head. “No, that's not what the President intended. He's not reinstating your position."
A resigned smile formed on Nathan's face after an abrupt pause. "I see... He probably has to discuss with the Cab before finalizing any decision. I'm sure Clifford is giving him a hard time as the Cab secretary. Garrett just went into office, so I bet it'll be difficult dealing with those old foxes."
But Linus begged to differ. "General, President Woods knows what he wants. He is very low-key, but that doesn't mean he's spineless. If he has his mind set on something, he will stand his ground no matter how Clifford or the Cab stands in his way."
"But if he's not reinstating me to my previous position, what is he trying to do?" Nathan asked.
Linus smiled mysteriously at his question. "Did you listen to the President's inauguration speech? He said the Chief Military Governor would be in charge of the country's finance and national security."
The Chief Military Governor?
Nathan gasped.
His gaze wandered around before it finally fixated on Linus. "Wait... I'm not following..."
"Do I need to be more explicit,
General?" Linus shot him a smile and spoke in a low voice. "You were the General of the North, the God of War. You are the best fighter in Eurasia, and President Woods believes that you have what it takes to serve as the country's Chief Military Governor."
"Wait... Is this the reason why he is reintroducing this position in the government again? He wants me to be the Chief Military Governor?"
"Exactly. The Rresident thinks highly
of you. He believes you're the best
candidate among all the leaders to take up this responsibility. He's confident that the country will prosper both economically and militarily with you taking up the post."
But Nathan's passionate and adventurous spirit had long worn off over the years. He was a lot more mature now.
Nheless, he was really moved by the offer. He felt honored to be entrusted with such a huge responsibility.
After letting the news sink, Nathan finally spoke again, "The President's trust means a lot to me. He can rest assured that I will do everything I can to serve the country. I will not disappoint him."
Linus was relieved to know that Nathan agreed to take up the job. "You and the President are both reliable and visionary leaders. I'm sure the country will reach new heights under your leadership."
"Anything for the country," Nathan replied determinedly.
It did not take long before the car pulled up at the entrance of Riverside Garden.
Nathan invited Linus in for a drink, but the latter had to decline because he had another engagement.
"General, your appointment as the
Chief Military Governor has already been decided. It's just a matter of time before we make an official statement. So it'd be best to practice discretion and keep it a secret for now. I'm sure there are people waiting for an opportunity to prey on the President. So for now, rest well before the big day arrives."
“Sure. Thanks for taking the trip,” Nathan replied.
"Don't mention it. I'm just hereto relay the President's message. I'll make a move first. See you.
Nathan knew Linus was busy, so he didn't ask him to stay. "See you."
