Salute To The General
Chapter 1866

Chapter 1866

Penny, Benson, Leah, Kylie, and Ava were pacing around in the house like cats on hot bricks after Nathan got summoned to the police station. "Arthur Rivers must be crazy! How dare he order the General around?" Ava complained, "I'm gonna call Fang right now. I'm sure Arthur will pee his pants when the North Army's commander gets at him!"

Just as she was reaching for her phone, the door swung open, and there Nathan was, bewildered as he saw the anxious group in the living room. "Papa!" Queenie was overjoyed and let out a cry when she saw Nathan.

Nathan opened his arms wide as she ran into his embrace. "Munchkin!" he called with a bright smile on his face.

Penny ran over after her daughter when she saw Nathan.

"Did they give you a hard time?" she asked.

"Well, they wanted to. But they didn't have what it takes to make things difficult for me," Nathan assured, looking at her worried face.

Behind the trio, Ava criticized Zero and Arthur unreservedly. "Zero Yorick is one rude brat. He only has the guts to do this because he has the mayor backing him. I'll make sure they regret their action."

"You don't have to, Ava. Arthur has been demoted to a village head and got transferred to Horington already,” Nathan told her casually.

Everyone was shocked upon hearing the piece of news.

"What happened?" Penny asked after a brief silence.

Nathan looked at the startled lot and decided to explain everything from the beginning. He told them about how Linus came to his rescue and got Arthur transferred to the village with just a call.

He also told them about why Linus came to see him, but he advertently left out the information about him being appointed as the Chief Military Governor. He only mentioned that he would be taking up new responsibilities.

The family was elated when they found out Nathan was entrusted with a new assignment.

They were confident that he would be able to ace it.

Unlike the others who turned their back against Nathan after he was relieved of his position as the commander-in-chief of the North Army, his family stood by him and gave him their unwavering support.

When everyone was giving Nathan the cold shoulder and being nasty toward him, all they could think about was his wellbeing.

They were worried that he would not be able to come to terms with the fact that he was dismissed and that he would not be able to get over it.

Now that Nathan would be serving the country once again, they finally saw the light at the end of the tunnel.

Everyone was relieved and happy for him.

Penny switched on the TV and was tuning in to a channel airing late-night news when a piece of

breaking news caught everyone's attention.

The program host was interviewing a few guests, discussing a heated topic that took the whole country by storm.

It was none other than the topic of

President Woods reinstituting the position of the Chief Military Governor-a position with the highest command of the country's military.

The host was soliciting the guests' opinions about the possible candidates for this position, and they named some of the brightest stars in the army.

Some of the military luminaries

mentioned included Warrick Lake, the Admiral of the East; Lucas Ziegler, the commander-in-chief the West Army; Zach Hill, the

commander-in-chief of the vel

Army, and others of the like.

Of all the names mentioned, Nathan was not one of them.

Everyone thought that after President Windsor retired, Nathan had lost his strongest support.

Besides, he had lost his position as the commander-in-chief of the North Army after he incurred the wrath of the Cab secretary.

To them, there was no way he could make a comeback, so it was only natural that none of them mentioned Nathan.

As the commentators were making remarks about each candidate's potential, Penny and the others could not help but wonder who would be entrusted with such a pivotal role.

"I'm sure that the General would be

we

the best man for the job if he didn't lose his position because he offended Clifford. Lucas and the others are nowhere near our General's level," Ava exclaimed as

she listened to the commentary.

Sitting not far away, Nathan simply raised his brows and shot her a subtle smile without saying a thing.
