Salute To The General -
Chapter 1904
Chapter 1904
Nathan hugged his wife.
Penny rested her head against his chest. Her shoulders trembled as she sobbed softly.
Nathan cooed sweetly and softly for a long time.
Slowly but surely, Penny's emotions calmed down, and she sobbed less.
She tilted her head up. Tears were still in her eyes, and her voice was thick when she said, "Hubby, I don't want us to be apart..."
Nathan chuckled and promised, "Silly girl, this is a small war. It won't drag out and will be over soon. I will return victorious before you know it." Nathan made everything sound simple, but
Penny knew that war was unpredictable and anything could change the tide. Everybody's life hung on the line all the time, so things could not possibly be that simple.
Her eyes were watery when she looked into his eyes. Her coarse voice then said, "Promise me that you will come back, no matter what. Our daughter and I will be home waiting for you."
Nathan nodded and replied, "I promise."
Nathan and Penny held each other close and talked for some time.
They eventually planned for their future. Penny shared that she wanted to have another kid, preferably a son and that she wanted to resign from her post in Cross Group after Nathan got discharged from the military. Their family could then lead a peaceful life.
Nathan grinned and pointed out, "Our country has many enemies who are eyeing our borders now. It's likely that the leaders won't let me retire because the country and its army need me. That is why this is not the right time for me to leave. Cross Group is still growing, and a variety of cancer vaccines and pharmaceuticals are still being developed. It needs you as well, and you can't leave it just yet. All in all, we both have a long way ahead of us before we can retire. We can start working on your other wish of having another child immediately, though."
Penny couldn't help blushing when she heard that last sentence.
She complained shyly, "What do you mean by immediately? It's still bright out."
Nathan smiled and replied, "I have to leave for the North tonight, and I'll probably go after having dinner, so we can't wait until night falls."
Penny didn't expect Nathan to have to leave so soon. She was about to ask for more information on his schedule when her feet suddenly got lifted off the floor, and she yelped. She soon realized that Nathan had picked her up and was carrying her like she was a princess.
“Nathan, what are you doing? Where are you taking me?"
Nathan carried Penny toward the bedroom and answered, "Somewhere where we can realize our dream.”
Penny's face flushed red as she complained shyly, "I don't want to do that right now. Put me down..."
Unfortunately, Nathan brought her into their bedroom anyway.
That evening.
Leah prepared a table full of delicacies, and those dishes were all Nathan's favorites.
Nathan, Penny, Queenie, Benson, Leah, Ava, and Colin sat around the table to share a meal together.
After dinner, Nathan and Colin would have to leave for the North.
War waited for no one, so they couldn't delay or postpone their trip.
Everyone ate with a heavy heart. Benson downed a few drinks with Nathan and told the latter that he must come home alive. "Everyone will be waiting here," said Benson.
Nathan nodded and promised, “Don't worry. I'll definitely come home.”
Dinner ended on a somewhat sorrowful note.
The night soon fell, and the streetlights came on.
The Elite Eight had already driven a few military vehicles over. They were waiting for Nathan by the entrance.
Nathan led Colin, and they got ready to leave.
Penny handed a lucky charm to Nathan and told him to keep it with him. She informed softly, "My mom and I got this lucky charm for you Keep it with you at all times so that you will be blessed with a safe return."
“Okay,” promised Nathan.
Nathan bid goodbye at the entrance before he got into the car with Colin.
Ava suddenly voiced up, "Let me return to the North with you, General. I can help the National Guard keep you safe."
Nathan rejected that offer and said,
"No. Stay here and keep my wife and daughter safe. It is crucial that keep my head in the game, and I can only focus on the war if I know that my family is safe."
Ava had no choice but to retract her offer.
Nathan and Colin got into the car, and the entire fleet of cars drove steadily away.
Penny felt as if someone had
mercilessly stabbed her heart when
she saw the cars driving away. It was as if something important had slipped away from her life, and sorrow spread across her sout. Her tears rolled down her cheeks immediately after.
"Hubby!"
Penny couldn't help shouting out before picking her skirt up to chase after the cars.
