Salute To The General -
Chapter 1936
Chapter 1936
Penny broke down in tears as she buried herself into Nathan's arms.
She kept telling herself to stay strong no matter how bad things turned out. And indeed, she did not shed a single tear throughout all those sleepless nights-not even when Webb threatened her.
But when she saw Nathan right before her eyes, she felt she could finally let all her guard down. A sense of joy and relief overwhelmed her and she cried her heart out in his embrace.
Nathan held her tight in his arms, caressing her head lovingly as he comforted her. "It's okay, honey, I'm back. Everything will be okay."
Penny nodded furiously in his arms.
His steady heartbeat calmed her down, and she felt like she could finally rest assured with him around.
When Penny finally collected herself again, she found everyone staring at her and Nathan. Her face flushed red instantly and she pushed him aside.
Kylie and Ava quickly came over and told Nathan about everything Webb did to Penny.
Nathan listened quietly as they updated him with all the details, including how Webb set her up and intended to tarnish her reputation.
"I know what he's up to. I'll take care of it," Nathan said.
He turned around and held out his hand toward
Penny. "Let's go home, honey."
Penny nodded and followed after him.
Seeing that Nathan, Penny and Kylie left for home, Colin, Ava, Thomas, and the others made themselves scarce so the three could enjoy their family reunion.
Back at Riverside Garden, Benson, Leah, and Queenie were overjoyed to see Nathan.
Queenie was especially elated to see Nathan. She planted herself in his embrace and called him Papa sweetly, eliciting a broad smile from Nathan. Benson and Leah decided to cook a nice meal to celebrate Nathan's return, so they headed for the market to get some groceries.
By the time the whole family sat down around the table for dinner, it was already six o'clock.
Penny eyed the clock anxiously as dinner was served. The evening news would be broadcasted at seven.
Webb told her that if she did not make it to the hotel by then, he would have all the broadcasting stations and publishers in Channing air those indecorous pictures.
Nathan spotted her uneasiness and patted her hand.
"Don't worry about Webb. I know he's trying to get back at you and even accuse me of being a deserter. I already have everything under control." Penny heaved a sigh of relief and finally ate in peace.
Over at Changing TV station, the director, Abel Lange, was having a jolly good time with a
female reporter.
He held the woman by her waist, fondling her as she giggled at his ticklish touch. "Don't forget what Mr. Goldstein asked us to do, Mr. Lange. We need to air the news about Penny hooking up with him in a hotel. We need to drag her reputation through the mud."
A lecherous smirk carved on Abel's face as he nodded. "I remember everything he asked me to do. I'll do as he said. As for you, sweetie, you don't have to worry about anything. Just relax and have some fun with me."
Speaking, he pressed her against his office table and started kissing her.
Bang! The couple sprang apart the moment the door slammed open.
Colin and his subordinates invited themselves in and glared at the two of them.
Abel quickly buttoned up his shirt as he turned around disconcertedly, thinking the woman's husband was here to catch them in the act.
When he realized it was a bunch of
random strangers, he lashed out furiously. "Who the f*ck are y'all? Who gave y'all the permission to barge in? Guards! Damn, where are these..."
Slap!
Before he could even finish his harangue, Colin slapped Abel hard in his face, sending blood spurting out of his mouth.
From the cracking sound of his mouth, it was apparent that the impact must have broken some of his teeth.
The reporter screamed at the top of her lungs at the brutal scene.
Colin grabbed Abel by his hair and tugged him close up. "How dare you work with the Goldsteins to target Mrs. Cross? Do you have a death wish? I'm bringing you to Mr. Cross."
The director looked at Colin in horror.
Mr. Cross?General Cross?
A cold shiver ran down Abel's spine.
I thought he ran away during the battle? Why is he back?
