Salute To The General -
Chapter 1978
Chapter 1978
Within moments, the soldiers managed to seal off the whole place.
At the same time, a loud buzzing sound was heard from the sky and a few helicopters appeared.
A general and a few National Guards hopped down the helicopters once they landed.
Rax knew that the general was the person in command based on his stance.
So he led a few of his loyal subordinates and strode towards the latter, regardless of his injuries. As they walked, he greeted, "Hello, commander. I am Rax from the Goldstein family. My family is the in-laws of Mr. Davier. You're all sent by him, right?"
However, before Rax and his men could even get close, a dozen of sub-machine guns were pointed at them.
He quickly stopped in his tracks and explain loudly, "Don't get me wrong. I am Rax Goldstein and I used to be Mr. Davier's in-law. I'm one of his people. We're on the same side."
The man standing before them was none other than Franklin, the commander-in-chief of Channing.
He glanced at the bloody man standing before him and asked in shock, "You're the Mighty Rax, Rax Goldstein?"
Rax nodded and said, "That's right. We're all on the same side, commander."
On the same side?
Franklin's lips curled into a mocking sneer before he said, "Who the hell is on your side, Rax?"
The captain of the National Guards, Callan, stepped forwards and immediately gave Rax a slap across his face. "Who do you think you are? How dare you name-drop our general?"
Normally, with Rax's capabilities, he would've killed Callan easily if the latter dared to harm him.
But he was severely injured by Nathan earlier. He was in indescribable pain, even breathing was difficult for him. He didn't have the energy, nor the capability to stop the captain's slap at all.
Not only that but there were also multiple guns pointed at him at the moment.
All he could do was watch as Callan landed a slap on his face.
Slap!
Rax's head jerked to the side and he fell onto the ground as a result.
Callan then spat on him before?
saying in disgust, "You're not even worthy of being on the same side as General Wilson."
The former, along with all of the people for the Goldstein family who were watching, were dumbfounded by the slap.
They once thought that the troops were there to help them, but it seemed like that wasn't it.
Rax cradled his cheek which was burning from the slap as he looked up in embarrassment. His voice was shaky as he asked, "Weren't you sent by Mr. Davierto help me kill Nathan?"
Franklin scoffed, "The military and
civilian powers have been separated. Even though Mr. Davier is the Cab secretary, he doesn't have the authority to mobilize our troops. Now we only take orders from the Chief Military Governor."
The Chief Military Governor!
Rax and his subordinates could barely believe it.
"The Chief Military Governor sent you here? Why did he send you?" he asked in disbelief.
Franklin led the National Guards and casually walked towards him. Then, he kneeled on one knee and gave the latter a smile that did not reach his eyes. This is supposed to be confidential information. But since you're going to be dead soon, it doesn't matter even if you found out about it. To be honest, I'm not here because of the Chief Military Governor's orders. I only led the
troops here to protect him."
To protect the Chief Military Governor!
Shock was written all over Rax's face and he was utterly confused by the situation.
If he's here to protect the Chief Military Governor, does that mean that the governor himself is right here?If the governor really is here, who could it
be?
His eyes subconsciously flitted to Nathan who was standing a few feet away
The latter still remained calm and composed.
Is it possible that Nathan's the Chief Military Governor?
Franklin noticed that Rax was gaping at Nathan with fear in his eyes and immediately guessed what the latter was thinking.
He smiled and whispered in the latter's ear, "You guessed it right. The General holds the greatest military power and is the Chief Governor."
Boom!
Rax felt as though a bomb had been set off by his ears after hearing what the former said.
