After a moment of hesitation, Spook could not help but blurt out, "Mr. Davier, I don't know if I should say this."

Clifford demanded, "What is it? Spit it out now."

His subordinate said, "Not long ago, I heard that the Chief Military Governor ordered a secret inspection of the Channing military district. If I'm not wrong, the person in charge was Franklin. Perhaps, Franklin knows who the Chief Military Governor is? It also makes me worried that the Chief Military Governor may be close to Nathan as well."

Hearing that, Clifford furrowed his brows.

This is not good.

Currently, the Chief Military Governor was in charge of the national military and was highly ranked.

As a Cab secretary, Clifford could barely compete with him.

While he was in charge of the civil servants, the Chief Military Governor was in charge of the military. Though it seemed like they could compete on equal statuses on the surface, it was not true in reality. Clifford had to avoid stepping on the Chief Military Governor's toes now.

If Nathan was familiar with the Chief Military Governor, or if the latter was trying to protect the former, it would be difficult for Clifford to make any moves on Nathan.

After some thought, he concluded, "I don't think the Chief Military Governor has any relations to Nath an.We can assume that the Chief Military Governor does not care about Nathan since he did not give Nathan any benefits, even after the latter participated in the battle in the North. Not only that, but he did not even bother to award Nathan with any form of appreciation.

Spook nodded in agreement, "That's true. If the Chief Military Governor looks up to Nathan, he would most likely praise the latter and reward him after the fight ended. I heard that Nathan was called back to the North Army some time ago. Despite so, he went there and returned to Channing quietly, without receiving or contributing anything then. From that point, I guess we can assume that there is nothing special about their relationship. After all, Nathan was not treated any better nor differently."

Clifford warned, "Although they are not close, this is the era of the Chief Military Governor. He would probably rise and overshadow President Woods."

"Well, I should look for a way to establish a better relationship with the Chief Military Governor then," Spook muttered in surprise. Previously, Garrett went against all opposition to recommend a candidate for the Chief Military Governor position.

Then, Clifford led the Great Cab to protest collectively against Garett's recommendation.

In addition, he even tried to stop the Chief Military Governor from rising through the ranks on multiple occasions.

In the end, the Chief Military Governor managed to prove his power and ability, shutting all his opposition's mouths to take up that position successfully.

Despite what he had done, it seemed odd that Clifford wanted to get into the Chief Military Governor's good books.

Clearly, there are no permanent enemies among the powerful and noble. They consider everything based on their self-interest.

Lowering his head, Spook muttered, "Mr. Davier, when the Chief Military Governor took over this position, he went through various challenges set by the Cab. As such, he probably doesn't have a good impression of the Cab. How do you intend change his mind and improve your relationship with him?"

Clifford chuckled, "The Cab did make things difficult for him, but it was merely to test his abilities. Since he has proven himself, he managed to become Eurasia's Chief Military Governor.Considering his courage, I don't think he would be so petty to take the past into account. Besides, he should forge good relations with the people in the Cab.

After all, the military requires lots of funds every year, and the Cab decides the budget. Thus, it would not do him any good to be caught up in the past."

Spook nodded in agreement.

Then, Clifford added, "To improve

our relationship, I think having a marriage of convenience would be best. Although he usually dresses in a phoenix military coat with a Leviathan mask, I can tell that he is quite young and probably isn't married. My younger brother Valois, has a gem. His daughter, Shelly, is a beautiful lady. I'm planning to get someone to matchmake them and let the Chief Military Governor marry Shelly. Once we become a family, we can support each other and

progress together."

Impressed, Spook exclaimed, “Mr. Davier, you are the Cab Secretary, and the Chief Military Governor is the country's highest rank officer. If both of you become allies, Eurasia will be both of yours in the future!"

Those words made Clifford beam. Stroking his beard, he ordered, "Go get Valois at once. I'd like to discuss his daughter's marriage."

Obediently, Spook responded, "Yes, I will do so immediately."
