Salute To The General -
Chapter 1989
Chapter 1989
A week had passed since Nathan first arrived in Channing.
Now a Chief Military Governor, he couldn't stay away from Brimmopolis for very long as there were stacks upon stacks of documents waiting for him to sign back at the Headquarters of the Chief Military Governor.
Coincidentally, his daughter's summer break was starting within the next two days. Her school, Tulip Elementary, was hosting a summer camp in Brimmopolis and had arranged for a group of students to travel there.
As soon as Queenie came home from school, she started asking her parents about participating in the summer camp.
Furrowing her eyebrows slightly, Penny thought it over. "Money isn't an issue, but Brimmopolis is just too far, and the camp is a month-long. How can Papa and Mama just drop everything and accompany you to Brimmopolis for that long?
“Besides, we'd feel uneasy if you're going only with your fellow students and teachers. Maybe next time, munchkin?"
Queenie's face fell, but she nodded in understanding. "Okay... Then I'll wait for Papa and Mama to bring me to Brimmopolis next time."
Nathan had planned on telling his family that he had to go back to Brimmopolis for work today, but his daughter just beat him to the punch by asking to travel to the exact same city for a summer camp.
The sight of Queenie's disappointed expression drew a laugh out of him. "Don't get so down,
Queenie. I think you should join that summer camp.
"Really, Papa?" Queenie gasped, her eyes lighting up.
When Nathan noticed Penny's confused stare on him, he explained, "Honey, I actually wanted to tell you all that I have to go to Brimmopolis for work. If our daughter joins the summer camp, I can take care of her while we're there."
Work?
Penny did a double take.
Was Nathan unsatisfied with living a normal life and wanted to replace his allies in Brimmopolis so he could continue serving his country? It's very possible!
After all, Nathan was once the commander-In-Chief of the North Army, and he was still so young. It made perfect sense that he was already bored of living in retirement.
Penny had always respected Nathan's choices. She was also aware that her husband held an important role in the military, although the details of his work were completely confidential.
As a result, she didn't pry any further upon hearing that Nathan had to go due to work issues. "Well, I'm not very busy right now, so I might as well accompany you both to Brimmopolis. But I can't stay for a month. I can only go for a few days before returning to Channing for work," she hummed.
Overjoyed at the news that both her Papa and Mama were going to join her on her trip to Brimmopolis, Queenie jumped up, cheering, "Yay! I can't wait!"
At that moment, Kylie, Benson, and Leah came back home.
After they were filled in on the new travel plans, Kylie went on and on about wanting to join as well, since she was on her annual work break.
"Of course!" Penny laughed. "The more the merrier. Mom, Dad, do you want to join as well?
Benson shook his head. "No thank you. These old bones will crack if I walk for too long. I'll only be a burden if I go."
"I've just joined a cooking class recently, so I can't go either," added Leah.
The next day, Nathan and Queenie signed up together for the school club's summer camp.
The day after that, Nathan, Penny,
and Kylie brought along minimal luggage bags as they accompanied Queenie to school, meeting up with the other students and parents before everyone left for
Lover
Brimmopolis.
There were about two hundred students who had joined the
summer camp with their parents. Taking the number of school
teachers and various other staf
members into account, there must have been several hundred people going on the trip.
For convenience's sake, the school had decided to rent out an entire Airbus A380 that could fit everyone.
On the airplane, the kids were buzzing with excitement, chattering among themselves loudly.
The adults, on the other hand, were much calmer. Some were taking naps with eye masks on, and some were making quiet conversation with each other.
To their surprise, Nathan and Penny bumped into the familiar faces of Jaeden and Violet Winstead.
Mr. and Mrs. Winstead's stares turned venomous as soon as they saw Nathan.
After being publicly humiliated on
the school field and their reputation within the academic industry was ruined, they had asked around to replace out what relationship Nathan had with Director Donnovan.
But all their colleagues told them was that Nathan was just a normal guy and that Director Donnovan merely favored him because Nathan had once saved him before.
However, the fact that Nathan was apparently a nobody only added to their growing grudge against him.
Neither of them expected that they would meet again so soon.
Nathan had noticed Mr. and Mrs. Winstead's hateful stares and brushed them aside, completely ignoring them.
