Salute To The General
Chapter 1993

Chapter 1993

After Zac had made some calls, a new group of tour buses arrived to finally bring them to their destination: Brimmotopia.

Brimmotopia was a famous resort with hotels, various entertainment facilities, and everything else one could ever dream of. Every year during summer break, countless schools from all over the country would come here to host their own summer camps.

Following Zac's instructions, the group made their way into the Crystal Hotel.

As everyone was settling into their respective hotel rooms, there was a knock on Nathan's hotel door.

Opening the door, Nathan was surprised to see Jaeden with an unnerving smile on his face.

"How may I help you?" "Mr. Cross, I'm really grateful that you helped me out on the bus earlier. I came here specifically to express my gratitude," Jaeden explained, rubbing his hands together.

"You were trying to stand up for everyone else, so I just helped serve justice. There's no need to thank me," Nathan responded lightly.

But Jaeden wasn't finished, going on to say, "To thank you, Mr. Cross, I've booked a room at the Nomo Restaurant near the hotel. I was hoping you could join me for dinner."

Nathan felt uneasy rejecting an offer made out of what seemed like pure kindness.

He had nothing else to do, and besides, Jaeden was still the parent of one of Queenie's classmates. And Nathan wished for Queenie to

get along with all of her fellow students.

So, he agreed apprehensively.

Turning to look back at his family, he asked if any of them wanted to join him.

Queenie shook her head. "You go, Papa. All of the kids from the summer camp are going to meet up for dinner and activities, so I can't go."

Both Penny and Kylie expressed that they wanted to accompany Queenie as well.

In the end, only Nathan and Jaeden left the hotel and headed for Nomo Restaurant.

The owner of Nomo Restaurant was a famous chef who had won the prestigious Master Of Culinary competition. Customers who ate at the restaurant had nothing but praise for the food, and it was near impossible to make a

reservation.

"I have already reserved a private room for us, Mr. Cross," Jaeden told Nathan.

The two of them were guided to a private room.

To Nathan's surprise, there were already a few people inside.

One of them was a fairly plump, middle-aged man who was slightly balding on top and had an air of self-importance about him.

He was clearly displeased at the sight of Nathan, complaining to Jaeden, "I thought this was just a reunion between old classmates. Why did you arrive so late and bring an outsider along with you?"

Nathan furrowed his eyebrows and sighed internally.

It seemed that Jaeden had had plans to have dinner with his old classmates, but then decided to invite him out of the blue.

Jaeden either didn't know how social events functioned or just didn't care. Inviting two people from entirely different circles to one event was clearly a recipe for disaster.

Jaeden smiled placatingly at the

plump man. Director Loran, please hear me out. This is indeed a class reunion, just like we'd agreed over the phone. As for Mr. Cross here, he helped me on the trip here today, so I invited him to tag along."

After saying that, Jaeden quickly explained to Nathan in a low voice, "Mr. Cross, this is the Deputy Director of the General Office of the Ministry of Education and our great leader, Freddy Loran. You can just caffhim Director Loran!"

The corners of Freddy's lips turned up into a satisfied smile as he overheard Jaeden's introduction.

Nathan had regretted coming here as soon as he found out that he was intruding on Jaeden's class reunion.

But since he was already here, he might as well stay.

Smiling politely, Nathan reached his hand out to Freddy for a handshake. "It's nice to meet you, Deputy Director Loran."

Freddy was the most well-off among Jaeden's group of classmates, his existence so high up on a pedestal that Jaeden and everyone else could usually only grovel at his feet.

He never once considered Jaeden and his classmates as 'friends' and had merely agreed to join this class reunion so that he could show off his comfortable lifestyle and make everyone else jealous.

After all, what else was being wealthy good for if you couldn't flaunt it in front of all your friends and family?

Freddy and the rest of Jaeden's classmates had initially chosen to ignore Nathan's presence, figuring that he was just there for a free meal.

But Nathan's simple greeting of "deputy director" had pissed Freddy off.

Although he was just a deputy director, no one other than his superiors dared to call him that straight to his face.

Was Nathan unaware that in every organizational setting, you were supposed to politely omit the "deputy" or "vice" words from someone's title while talking to them?

"Deputy director" sounded so unpleasant!

Freddy glanced at Nathan's outstretched hand, scoffing haughtily. "May I ask what you do, Mr.

Cross?"

Tell me so I can know who your employer is. How dare you have the audacity to call me "deputy director"?

Nathan worked in the military, where a first-incommand was a first-in-command and a second-in-command was a second-in-command. There was no such nonsense as omitting certain parts of a title for the sake of someone's pride.

As a result, he was unaware that calling Freddy "Deputy Director Loran❞ had insulted him greatly.

But although he did not understand why Freddy was offended, he could sense Freddy's irritation through his tone and attitude.

Nathan answered casually, "It's nowhere prestigious. I serve my country, just like you."

No matter if someone was the Chief

Military Governor, the Deputy

Director of the General Office of the Ministry of Education, or a lowly executive of the Channing Ministry of Education like Jaeden, they were alkeivil servants working to serve their country.

Freddy's face twisted into a frown.

"Nathan is a security guard from one of the departments at Channing. But he's not to be underestimated! He can take down more than ten opponents

all by himself," Jaeden quickly interrupted.

A security guard!

Freddy and his old classmates burst out into laughter.
